The hare twitched his nose. He wasn't too fond of this place; no way. look at it-- dead! Ugly and dead. Skulls-- bones! it was terrible. Not to mention those hideous hyena. He hoped he wouldn't see any. See, Iva was rather fearless. But he wasn't a total loss.
He supported himself on an elephant skull a bit, repasisng his plan in his head. He wanted some hyena mane hair-- dangerous, yes, but he was just looking for a den. Where some fur might've fallen off. See, Iva wasa collector of sorts. His true love was with feathers-- ah yes. Feathers. But he had a couple of lion whiskers, hair from a cheetah's ruff, and even a leopards claw. He'd only go for these things because of bets, dares, and this was just the occasion.
What use did he have for whiskers and fur? None! A claw was cool, but the rest.. But Iva didn't back down from dares. Especially if it had been a ouse that dared it. So the hare hopped down from the skull, and cautiously moved deeper into the graveyard.
A gray, female hyena prowled about. Quite frankly, she was bored. but she wanted to look like she was actually doing something. So, she stalked around, slinking her body across the rocky ground. She passed a few skulls and a few skeletons, not really caring about them. They were just decoration, in a sense. They brought some life to the place, even though this place was mainly dead to begin with.
Still though, this female hyena was starting to become hungry. She had done this slinking around for hours, and
after awhile, it had just wore her out. So, she decided to sniff out some prey. There had to be some somewhere. But where...?
Iva froze. He heard smething, that breathing of a hyena. He was a hare, and it was to be expected that he could hear much better than this hyena. And it obviously wasn't ever -trying- to hide. Why? Well, it was obviosu there wasn't prey-scaring to worry about. Soon enough, his green eyes caught movement, definately hyena.
He scurried behind a skull, perhaps what had onde been an large antelope. Maybe those cow-looking ones. He saw the hyena now, a female, undoubtedly a young one. Good. He peered around, and time was getting short. He saw a skull, and elephant one. While some skulls in this place were large enoguh for a hyena to even live in(as long as they dug a bit) some elephants did die young. His skull would get a hyena stuck, even one as young as this.
He grinned, and dashed for it, promptly standing on op, and pretending not to notice the hyena.
Kailasa instantly saw the hare. He looked very agile, but at the same time, very delicious. While she often did not hunt for just herself, this hare seemed like the perfect meal to satisfy her stomach. Maybe it was just boredom that brought hunger to her. In any case though, she was beginning to feel her stomach growling, and that was not a pleasant feeling.
With her silver eyes watching, she creeped a bit closer, seeing as how the hare apparently had not noticed her. Her paws silently touched the ground
and her movements were swift. Hopefully she'd catch this hare and have a delightful snack... And hopefully no other hyenas were around to try and snatch it from her.
He blinked, watching the female from the corner of his eye. Closer, and closer. geez, hyena were so ugly. He flicked his tail, then turned, and stared at the creature directly in the eyes. perhaps kailasa would be surprised to not see fear in the hare's green eyes.
It was only defiance. Raw defiance.
He jumped down the skull, and scurried inside, peeking his head out of the eyes cavity, and grinning, waving a paw and using those strange hare-squeaks(he could talk, but this generally made him less attractive as a meal), as if saying 'come 'n get me. '
What in the world?!
The gray female watched as the hare had turned around, stared right at her, and then scurried off into the skull it had been on top of just mere seconds before. Had it known she was there all along?
Snarling some, she leapt at the skull with the hare poking out of it. She snapped her teeth viciously, trying to reach that nasty little hare inside of it.
Man! She was really hungry now!
She fell for it! When the hyena went for him, Iva pulled back into the skull, attempting to punch her nose once, then squeezing out the other eye cavity, kind of hurriedly to evoid the snapping jaws of the female. From there, it was an easy leap to her shoulders, then he clung to her mane. The skull was small and tight for her to be sticking her head in, but it wouldn't take her -too long to get it out.
"Quit yer movin'! " He demanded, clamping his teeth around a small cuff of fur and yanking, while attempting to keep a hold with his paws, forgetting Kai wmust've not known he could speak.
Instantly, Kai yelped, that blasted hare pulling on her fur and mane. She shook herself violently, the skull now attached to her mouth and nose, Her body thrashed about while she tried to use her paws to crack the skull open and throw it off of her.
"Get offa me!!", she demanded, her voice slightly muffled from the skull. "You nasty hare!" She shook herself about some more, starting to jump into the air. She was determined to get this vermin off of her back.
Success! In his mouth, he had a nice little bit of hyena mane fur-- not to mention, in a nice shade of grey, too! Hyne'as were ugly, but like birds, their fur didn't have to be. He squeaked as the hyena thrashed, though, and was forced to cling on longer, before launchign his body off Kailasa.
"Ha! Live with it, puppy. Yer not eating this hare today! " He shouted, cupping his front paws infront of him for more sound. "That'll teach you ta try and catch watcha can't have! " He snorted, then realised. He had no idea where to go. And the skull wouldn't hold long. Oh crap.
Wait. He'd jumped off the wrong way, hadn't he? Kai was infront of his way out... The hare dashed; at least he was quick. but still-- he had to pass close.
Growling, snarling, and slightly cursing, Kai was able to smash the skull on the ground, watching it shatter to pieces. The spot where the hare had ripped the mane hair out pulsed a little bit, and Kai growled angrily. She looked at the devilish hare and saw her mane clumped up in his little paw. Baring her teeth and making her fur stand on end, she stared at the hare, waiting for his next, and hopefully last, move.
"Come on you damned bunny! Give it your best shot!", she snapped, growling again
afterwards.
"Think i'm dumb, lady? " he snorted, ears folding back in annoyance. "I did what ah came 'ere ter do. No. Bye! " He grinned meekly, then started to dash, his reddish brown fur visible among the pale bones, yet he leapt and zigzagged in such crazy manners-- kicking bones, leaping this way and that-- it might be eye boggling.
Finally, he decided to pass behind her, and changed in the zigzags, shooting past the hyena's ankles. But this wasn't hard to turn to, and Kai would probably be dead on his ankles.
As the female's silver eyes watched him carefully, she whipped her paws out, grazing the side of his foot as he did his best to zoom on by her. Yes. his zigzag patterns were very confusing, but timing her swiping just right, she was able to snatch his little foot. If anything, it'd be slightly bleeding and slow him down just a bit. And that's just what Kai needed.
She snarled some more and turned around in an instant, going right after him. Even if she didn't catch him, she wasn't going to let him get away
that easily. Especially after he stole some of her mane like that. Nope. Definitely not that easy.
Iva, to say the least, didn't enjoy the cut on his hind paw, but kept going. He knew the hyena was after him-- and thats why he never kept the same course. This worked with cheetah, who were much faster-- it'd sure as hell work on a hyena.
He ignored his injured paw, even as bones slipped passed it; he was full of adrenaline right now. All he felt was the beat of his heart in his chest. He made shortcuts, slipping through skulls, maybe leaping over them. He'd go through any path annoying for a hyena-- between the ribcages of those long gone, where he fit through so easly, but wasn't all that great fora hyena.
"Catch me if ye can! " He shouted over his shoulder, if only to annoy her, as his green eyes quickly planned his route. He had to ditch her.
He knew there was water nearby-- this could be usefull.
Admittedly, this was a very annoying obstacle course this stupid hare was taking her through. Every time he went though a skull, she quickly had to stop, so she wouldn't get herself stuck on it. Everytime he went through the ribcages of the dead ones around here, she had to simply snap at him from afar, doing her best to scare him out. This little annoying pest was getting on her last nerves, if anything.
"Get back here!!", she shouted back, snarling some more. She really didn't want him to get away, but
this chase was becoming very hard to keep up with. She wasn't built for speed like the hare was, and she was beginning to tire. All she wanted was her damn mane back. Why couldn't she just have it back?
He could see the water now, and with a bit more effort, sped up. It couldn't take him too long to reach it, despite one or two detours for a skull or ribcage. Soon he was running full speed at it. "And now, miss! " Iva shouted again over his shoulder, wiggling his tail a bit.
He was a hare, he was used to sharp turns. He had to do this. He got nearer, and nearer. Then leapt. When he landed, inches from the waters edge, it was a sharp change of directions. Kailasa would either have to break a -lot-, or fall into the water. "I take my leave! " He yelled, but didn't stop running. He'd stop only later-- when he was sure she was gone. Iva kept running, unknowing if she had managed to try him again. He just wouldn't stop-- now that he'd passed the water, there was no more graveyard, just plains. He just hoped he'd already gotten her far back enough to be safe.
Not seeing it coming at all, poor Kailasa tripped and fell face first into the pool of water. Her paws splashed about and she gasped for air. What the heck had just happened?! She knew she had been chasing that stupid hare, but how in the world did she manage to fall into this pool of water?
None of it made sense. However, there was no denying it. It had happened, and it looked like that blasted hare was going to get away with her mane hairs. Damn him.
"I'll get you one, you blasted bunny!", she snarled
at him. "You just wait and see!" She thrashed about some in the water, very upset, and swam her way back to where to had slipped in in the first place. Crawling back up onto the land, she began to shake herself dry, looking slightly disoriented afterwards.
