|Pronouns!!Since the Farahni are divided into two nearly separate species, one of which is genderless, they have evolved a completely different set of gender-neutral pronouns for which to refer to the Nonbreeders. Nonbreeders have a complicated set of pronouns that only they use, relating to relative status as well as area of expertise and even physical appearance. There are also two common gender-neutral pronouns used by the Breeder caste to refer to Nonbreeders. The first pronoun, ve, is used for domestic Nonbreeders, those who tend children or other tasks that would probably be considered ‘women’s work’ in other societies. The second, xe, is used for Nonbreeders who do ‘men’s work’. The mechanics work as such:
He (she) laughed. I kissed him (her). His (her) head hurts. I am his (hers). He feeds himself (herself).
Ve laughed. I kissed ver. Vis head hurts. I am vis. Ve feeds verself.
Xe laughed. I kissed xem. Xyr head hurts. I am xyrs. Xe feeds xemself.
VIN WILL REFER TO VERSELF USING THE “VE” PRONOUN.
