It had been quiet since she and Sedi had finally parted ways. It seemed like forever ago... Maybe it had been. Time was strange when it passed. Sometimes it moved quickly and others slow...

Shaking her head she moved through the forest towards home. She wanted to check in on Draven again... And tell Mother all about her adventures. Maybe, if she was lucky, Trevalyn would be there this time... And Altair wouldn't. Not that she disliked Altair, of course. It would just be nice to have quiet at home without him.

As he picked his way through the trees, Trevelyn couldn't quite shake the feeling of gloom that still hung over him like a cloud. Though this journey had had it's positives, two particular meetings, the two most RECENT meetings, still dogged his footsteps and clouded his mind. Naina, he'd met...and Jean-Claude.

Oh, that had been a polite meeting. ACHINGLY polite. Jean-Claude had tried to rationalize his beahvior to his only son, rationalizations that had fallen on deaf ears. Trev would never understand, COULD never understand, and would never want to. Just being near his sire had been enough to make the bile rise in his throat...

And as soon as that meeting was over, Trev had hoofed it homewards. Nothing to get the bad taste of meeting someone you didn't want to out like a visit at home!

She paused at the stream for a moment, taking a sip to wet her throat before continuing on. There was no way she would be able to tell her mother about everything that had happened with a dry mouth... She could probably talk for hours. No, she probably would talk for hours. She had so many stories to tell.

Giving her head a light toss she turned, trotting away from the stream and back towards the main path that would lead up to the place where she and her brother had been brought up. How long had it been since she'd been back here? Even when she'd bumped into Draven and Altair she hadn't come back here.

In spite of the gloom of Trev's mood, there was nevertheless something extremely comforting about being someplace familiar. Though he couldn't put his finger on it, there was just something...special about the woodland region he'd been brought up in; the familiarity bound up in every tree, every rock, every crevice where he'd played with Mem and trained with Draven. THAT was happiness, pleasure. All that good stuff.

And speaking of good stuff...

A shimmer of purple caught his eyes through the trees; a purple that he was very, very familiar with. Even the tiny glimpse he'd gotten was enough to bring forth a smile that had been hidden for days, a smile that widened as he came out onto the main path and his suspicions were confirmed. "Mems!"

Her ears flickered towards the sound of a familiar voice, head turning to that she could glance over her shoulder. Her eyes squinted as she tried to make out the movement of brown amongst trees and then... Then she grinned. It was her brother.

"Trev! What are you doing here? I thought you'd gone off to see the big, wide world." She trotted back towards him. "Finally coming home to see everyone? Or am I just lucky to run into you?"

Grinning, Trev trotted up the path towards his sister as she came back towards him, his eyes shining. As soon as she was in range, he gave her a nuzzle, delight at seeing one of his favorite Soquilis evident on his features. "What, so I can't venture home in between sightings of the world? Honestly, after the world I've experienced, I can do with a bout of home-time, Mems, trust me. But what about you? Did you ever make it out yourself?"

He remembered something to that effect from before; he was leaving, and so was she... "If that's the case, what brings YOU back? And have you been to see Mom and Draven yet?"

"Oh, I've been having all sorts of wonderful adventures!' She smiled brightly as she returned the nuzzle, taking a step back so that she could look over her brother. "You don't look like the world's been treating you badly. I'd say... An apple or two and you'll be just fine."

With a little hop in her step she turned back towards the path. "I saw Mister Draven maybe... Two weeks ago? He was with Altair... I didn't stay long." Her nose scrunched slightly before a smile slipped back into place. "If that's where you're heading I can come with you! I'm sure Mother would love to see both of us again."

"...You know that not everything can be solved with apples, right Mems? Honestly, you're starting to sound like Mom!" Still, it was hard to be upset now that he was in presence of his sister; it made things like his rather rocky meeting with his sire seem much less important, in the grand scheme of things. And besides, an apple WOULD be tasty.

Later. "Altair?" Now THERE was a name that he couldn't place. One of Draven's friends, maybe? "You forget it's been a long time since I've been here, Mems, and yeah; I figure I'll go home and pay Mom a visit, what with it being so long since I left and all. And in the meantime, you can fill me in on what I've missed...like who this Altair guy is, for example."

"Of course I know that apples don't fix everything... But they help. At least a little." She nickered softly as she gently nudged his shoulder with her own. It would be good to catch up on things with her brother while they both headed home.

"Altair is..." Where did she start? The begining, of course. "One night Draven found a foal... By itself, alone in the woods. He brought it home and, somehow, it's become a wretchedly rude little thing." She snorted softly, shaking her head. "He's not so little anymore though... He's growing rather quickly and I'm not home enough to mind him but... Poor Mister Draven."

Falling into step with his sister, Trev walked up the path towards their cave home and listened carefully to her words. So Draven had another foal around the place, eh? If he wasn't careful, he was going to wind up with his own flock of kids. Not that Trev himself had any sorrows or regrets that Draven had taken up with THEM, he could just easily see it becoming something a lot bigger. Draven was so giving sometimes...

Though he had to admit that Memory's dislike of the other foal was amusing, and he gave her a light chuckle in response to her chagrin. "Well, if it was alone it probably didn't have a mother to learn from like we did. But maybe he's improved by now, what with Draven being around all the time." Though if Memory felt that strongly about this guy, Trev had a sneaky suspicion that meeting him would at least prove...different. If not abhorent.

"He didn't seem to have changed all that much when I last saw him... But you're right. Things are always changing." She nodded slowly before trotting off ahead of her brother for a moment. They were getting close enough that they should be able to hear something soon.

He had been enjoying the silence momentarily, listening to the woods rustling in the gentle breeze before his ears flickered towards the sound of two voices. A frown curved his lips as he closed his eyes. He knew this was coming sooner or later... It was good, at least, that they were both coming together.

"Yeah well, as long as the stuff that's really important doesn't change, I can live with it. YOU'D better not change, Mems, or else I might get cranky." Grinning, Trev shook back his dark curls as he looked up the path after his sister. How many times had he walked this path, he wondered, or ran it, or scuttled up it when he knew he was late? He couldn't even begin to count them all, but he knew that they were there; all those little trips and trots and capers.

It really did feel good to be home...

"But I have changed, Trev... And you've changed too. We both have since we've grown; at least a little." She nodded slowly, flashing her brother a bright smile. "Home never changes though... Places stay the same even if people don't."

He heard Memory's words and chuckled softly. "Now, now... That isn't entirely true, Memory. The seasons can change a place... Just as weather can change a place."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 01, 2007 11:55 am

"Another point." Still, Trev couldn't help the wistful smile that tugged at the corners of his mouth as he nodded an agreement at Memory; people could and did change, but he'd really rather that they didn't. Especially not the people that were important to him, like his mother and sister.

But then, seeing Memory was reminding him of at least one truism: the details might change, but the generals would stay the same.

He was about to make a comment to that effect when Draven's voice broke in on their reverie, the first hint Trev even had of the older stallion's presence. He couldn't begrudge Draven getting the drop on them, though; he'd always been the master and Trev himself but a student.

So it was with a smile that Trev turned to greet his mentor, bowing his head in a greeting. "Hey Draven; it's nice to see you again, even if you ARE raining on our little homecoming parade."

"Draven!" She smiled brightly as she pulled away from her brother in order to trot up to the 'masked' stallion, brushing her cheek against his. "You know what I meant..." Her nose wrinkled slightly as she stepped back.

"Perhaps I did." He chuckled softly as he returned the nuzzle before turning his gaze towards the other stallion. Stallion... My how fastly time passed. "Well, well, if you aren't a sight for sore eyes. You've seen the world and now you've returned?" His brow lofted slightly. "Welcome home both of you."
