Light brown fell into his golden view as he sat near the borders of the pridelands, eyes looking out into the abyss of the roguelands, Mrost hadn't returned yet. All his life since he met the great blue god of war Inari trained himself every moment he had to spare. His muscles were toned, he was strong, fast, able to hunt very well, stalk even better, though he had grown distant from his family, his pride, his friends.
He wanted that to change, even if it meant not taking the gods advice completely.
How many friends of his had he not seen in ages because of his constant training would they even talk to him now, speak to him after being absent so long? He had doubts, and wasn't sure what to do.
No hadn't returned either, she seemed gone to the wind.
Would he become the same?

The now-larger-but-still-small female coughed and staggered slightly. She had been wandering around all day, traversing the Pridelands since it was such a lovely day. But all of that activity had worn her out and she could feel her heart pounding terribly against her ribs. Her great great grandmother had told her that when she felt that way, it was best for her to simply stop where ever she was and rest until she could breath steadily. But Amesi was hard-headed sometimes and refused to stop her adventure for something so silly.
So she continued on, paws barely making a sound as they passed over the ground rhythmically. She was at the borders of the Pridelands now, blue eyes glancing to the other side of the border every once in a while. She traveled around the Pridelands every day that her father would let her, and always she ended up at the border.
The Pridelands were rather dull now, since she had seen everything there was to see within them. Now she wanted to go past the borders and see what the world had to offer, but she was always too timid and never made it within five feet of the actual border. She always stood away from it, though always kept it in sight. One day, she kept telling herself, she would cross that border. She would be bold enough to walk out of the Pridelands and not run home scared that same night.
But the problem was her actually becoming so bold. On the outside she always appeared fearless and ready to take on anything. Most of the time, that's how it really was. But there were other times, like this, when she felt herself tremble at the merest thought of even going over the border. Yet she had decided firmly that she would make herself become bolder. She would change and she wouldn't feel bad for being such a coward. She'd change.
Nodding with determination, she shook her head and continued parallel with the border. She decided that she would spend a few more minutes at the border then turn around for home.

Inari sighed, graced his paw over the earth and stared at it, he huffed and smacked at a rock before him, should he stay or should he go? Though this was his home, he always had a calling here, but some left, some he never saw again because they went away, like Mrost, No, Hakan, all of them, who else would leave here and him at once?
Something white, flickering in the corner of his eyes then caught his attention.
White and black amongst the green, familiar yet distant, "Amesi?" he said openly, but softly, could it be a friend of the past, or was his eyes just playing tricks on him?
He wasn't too sure.

Amesi was having a bit of the same conflict as Inari, though hers was different in some aspects. She wanted to travel everywhere there was to travel and see all there was to see, but she felt bad about leaving her home and her family. What would he parents do? She knew they worried about her most out of all of her siblings, because of her 'illness,' but she wished they wouldn't. It made her feel guilty for wanting to leave, since then they'd never stop worrying. She would cause them so much pain.
Shaking her head, she hurried her steps. Thinking about that made her want to head back to her parents and cuddle with them to show that she would always be there with them, if not physically then at least in spirit.
But suddenly she heard her name being called out, and she jumped slightly. She had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't really been paying attention to her surroundings. She had completely missed the large figure standing off to the side a bit. Turning to face him, she wondered if maybe she had done something wrong. But her blue eyes settled on a brown form, and suddenly recognition kicked in.
"Inari!" she spoke brightly. Gosh, she hadn't seen him in forever. He was so big! Both of them had grown since they last saw each other, but she figured he had grown more than she had. She was still small, but he was so muscular! She wondered what he had been doing all this time.
"Long time no see," she giggled, bounding forward towards him. "I've missed you!" As she neared him, she purred happily and nuzzled his mane. A mane! Had he had one of those the last time she had seen him? She really couldn't remember. But it was so soft. She laughed again and pulled back, feeling no embarassment for what she had done. She was still childish and naive.
"Where have you been?"

A smile graced his face that had previously been emotionless and expressionless, Amesi was so full of life and happiness, energy and kindness, perhaps he should have been more like her, not trained so hard as he had done, but fate had put him right in the direction of the blue god of war, and thus he became what he was, a male, strong, wishing to be a warrior, but longing for so much more.
He waited as she bounded towards him, he felt warm inside, he hadn't seen any of his friends in so long, and Amesi had brightened his spirits this day, "Been a while I know," he said simply, as she stated that she missed him, his brain stopped thinking, what? How...how could anyone miss him? As she came closer, purred, and gave a nuzzle into his mane he felt a strange feeling, though it was a nice one. He closed his eyes for a moment, engulfed in the moment for a moment before she pulled back, and his golden hues then settled on her again.
"I've...missed you to," it was obvious from his words that he was indeed happy to see an old friend. "Been around, training, now waiting," he wanted to add 'not doing anything' to it but he figured it was for the best to keep that a secret.
"How about you? Look how you've grown, how have you been Amesi?"

The entire time Amesi held a grin on her face. It had been too long since she had seen her friend, and she was determined now to make regular vists to him, no matter where he or she was. She would make an effort. Losing friends simply because of physical distance wasn't a valid reason to her, and she'd be damned if she let miles ruin a friendship.
"Too long!" she responded with a slight laugh. Sitting back upon her bottom, she looked Inari over, from top to bottom. She still couldn't get over how much bigger he was! Sure, he was fully grown and she wasn't quite an adult yet, but she would always be small. And for that reason he seemed that much bigger. He was nearly towering over her and it made her want to stand on her toes.
When he spoke that he missed her too, a shiver ran through her body. But it was a good shiver, if there ever was such a thing. It was a strange feeling, and, not knowing what it was exactly, simply shrugged it off.
"Training," she gasped, looking him over again. "That's why you're so big! Gosh, I bet you could take down an elephant," she giggled, bumping him playfully with her shoulder. But, as she did, she felt the hard muscle underneath the fur. It surprised her slightly, and her round ears perked curiously as she peered at the spot she had just touched. He must have been training for a long time!
"Waiting?" she echoed. "Waiting for what?"
Smiling still she looked out across the border. "I've been exploring around the Pridelands. But I've seen everything now, and I want to leave and see what else is out there." Pausing, she simply watched the outside world from inside of her cage. "Have you been out there, Inari?" she asked quietly, turning her blue eyes to him. Yet as he commented on how she had grown, she laughed slightly and rolled over onto her back.
"Psh, not as much as you! I'm still so little!" She gave a fake pout, but giggled soon afterward. "I've been great!" Suddenly she remembered something. "Ommigosh, you'll never believe what I found out!"

Inari puffed out his chest a bit at the notion that perhaps he could take down an elephant, he created a goofy grin on his face, looking much like himself as an overly large cub, flicking his tail he chuckled, "I'm not too sure, maybe I should try sometime," he said with a nod, his mane falling into his golden view again.
Darn mane getting in the way.
"Waiting..for a friend to come back," more then one actually, but he wasn't sure if No or Mrost would ever come back, he wondered how both were doing. Inari looked to where Amesi was looking and shook his head, "No, but I'd like to someday," he really would.
"Not too little anymore though," he said with a smile, looking over to her again, she was nearly an adult now, and now she seemed excited, "What'd ya find out?" he was curious.

Amesi giggled as she saw her friend puff out his chest. He looked rather funny doing that, she thought. Yet as he said that maybe some day he would try to take down an elephant, she grew rather serious and narrowed her eyes at him with concern. "But you'll be careful, right?" She looked sad then. "I wouldn't want you to get hurt because of an idea that I put into your head."
But hopefully he wouldn't try. She thought that Inari was strong, but elephants were huge and always avoided by lions. An elephant could probably take on five Inaris at one time!
"Your friend?" she echoed, looking out across the border again. She wondered who he could be waiting for. She didn't know all of his friends, and so she had no guess. But she wasn't too keen on being nosy, so she simply let it be. If he wanted to tell her who it was, then he would on his own. She wouldn't force him.
Nodding, she sighed. "Me too. I want to explore the world! But... I'm scared," she frowned. Yet suddenly she was struck with an idea. "Maybe we could go together!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up. "Then I wouldn't be lonely or scared!" Of course, she still had her great great grandmother. Which reminded her...
"Oh!" she laughed, stomping her paws on the ground. "I found out that my great great grandma... is a GODDESS!"

Inari chuckled and then shook his head, tan mane falling into his view continuously, "I'd be careful of course, though taking down an elephant isn't really on my to do list," he said honestly, his list...didn't have much of anything on it really. Ah well..perhaps he should rethink the elephant thing after all.
"Yea, he was supposed to come back..a while ago, but I haven't seen him," sometimes he wondered if Mrost was alright, if No was alright, though he knew deep down both could handle themselves just fine.
Scared? Amesi scared? It had questions and thoughts pop into his mind, Amesi seemed so brave, it didn't seem true. "Maybe we could," he said with a nod, "Though not tooo incredibly far right?" he said with a grin, family was important to him, as was waiting for the god of war.
His golden hues widened and he tilted his head just as he used to when he was a cub, "Really? Thats...wow."

Amesi nearly sighed with relief when her friend spoke that he didn't intend to take down an elephant any time soon. She wouldn't have to worry about him then and she wouldn't have to feel guilty either. "Well that's good," she said aloud. "You're strong but I think elephants have a one up on the strongest of lions." She frowned, hoping she wasn't offending him.
Listening to Inari some more, her frown deepened as he spoke about his friend. He had said that his friend hadn't come back in a while. She didn't know who this friend was, but she was worried for him all the same. "Oh," she spoke quietly. "I hope you find him soon."
But soon enough her mood shifted easily into excitement. She felt it would have been the best thing in the world if she could travel with one of her friends. And since Inari was big and strong and could protect her easily, her father wouldn't have to worry so much about her safety. That way, Amesi would be free to enjoy herself on her travels and she wouldn't have to worry about her father worrying about her.
"Well we'd have to go just a little far," she giggled. "I want to see the WORLD. Don't you think it'd be nice to see all the different places and to meet a bunch of new people?" She looked out over the border once more and smiled as the sun warmed her light fur.
Thinking about her goddess relative again, she bounced and hopped about. "Isn't that wonderful? I've wanted to meet a goddess for so long and all along I've been related to one! Oh, Inari, you'll have to meet her! She's so pretty..."

Inari looked out over the borders, so many things out there, though where was the great blue god all this time? Inari worried sometimes, wondered if something had happened, wondered if he had failed his friend by not being there to help him when it was needed. "Me too Amesi, me too," with that thought he shook it from his mind, he didn't want to have the mood sadden.
"The world? Its a pretty big place," Inari said with a chuckle. The thought of Amesi being related to a goddess was incredible, he wished he was related to Mrost, would be awesome he thought. "If we both had wings like your great great grandmother we could see the world so easy, and get back before dinner."

Amesi watched her friend carefully, noting how sad he looked as they talked about his friend. She looked out over the border then back to Inari once more, a frown upon her face. He really cared for his friend, whoever he or she was. The white female wished she could find his friend and reunite them again. It pained her to see him sad like this.
"I'm sure you'll find your friend soon," she tried to reassure him, though her quiet voice gave away that she wasn't so confident. Flicking her tail, she padded closer to Inari and nuzzled his mane. Pulling back, she smiled at him. "Don't lose hope, okay?"
Sitting back, she watched the land outside of the Pridelands. "I know, but I want to see it all. I've seen everything there is to see in these lands. Now I want to go out and explore! But," she spoke, looking sad. "I don't know if my daddy will let me. He always worries when he isn't with me, and I don't like to worry him." It was one of the many reasons she loved her great great gran so much. She was normally with Amesi when her father wasn't, so Ashki didn't have to worry. But lately she noticed that Koya had been absent. She wondered where she could have gone off to.
At the mention of if they had wings, Amesi brightened up. "Do you think it's possible, Inari? Do you think we could get wings?" But suddenly she realized how silly she must have sounded. Folding her ears back, she looked slightly embarassed. "Nevermind. But it would be easy, wouldn't it?" Suddenly, she envied her great great grandmother.

Inari sat on his haunches and then lay in the grasses, his golden eyes feeling tired while watching the lands far far away i places he could not venture. He was tied to this place, he couldn't help it, he never could, he would be a warrior of the god of war, yet he found that he couldn't even step out of bounds for too long a time. He and Amesi had different reasons for staying within bounds, though his seemed more silly.
Flicking his tail idley he smiled, Amesi always knew the right thing to say.
"I won't give up hope, I won't let myself," if they had wings life would be so much simpler, he closed his eyes and sighed contently, not even bothering with traveling back to his den. "Maybe we can dream of it Amesi," he said with a smile, slumber creeping upon him.
Yes, maybe they could dream.

Amesi watched her friend for a moment as he lay down in the grasses. It looked so comfortable, the way he was resting. She smiled and lay down next to him, appearing dainty next to his bulk even as she was a foot or two away from him. She flicked her tail, considering, then wrapped it around her small frame.
"Good," she smiled, flicking her ears as she turned her gaze out towards the Pridelands' borders once more. "It's never good to lose hope," she told him, also reminding herself. Often times she dreamt of venturing into the outside world but ended up discouraging herself with less than hopeful thinking. But she knew that having a negative attitude would cause her to fail, where as she had a chance to succeed if she kept a positive outlook. Therefore, she resolved to always remain optimistic. It was, after all, in her nature.
At the suggestion that they dream, she looked to the sky and nodded. "That sounds like a plan," she spoke softly, rolling onto her side. She could dream of adventures, of being out there instead of cooped up in the Pridelands.
She could dream.
"Remember to stay positive, always dream," she spoke, almost half-asleep. "That's the way to make life the best it can be." And with those final words, she drifted off, next to her friend Inari and under the comforting heat of the sun.
