Aubrey sat in the helicopter, her heart pounding so loud she swore anyone could hear it over the deafening whir of the helicopter rotors. The island was in sight now, they would be landed in just a few minutes. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down. In her hand, a greatly worn letter barely held together under the immense pressure Aubrey was clutching to it. She had receieved the letter just a few weeks ago, barely two months after obtaining her medical license and doctorate degree from Harvard.
College... that was the last time she has seen Dr. Moreau. He graduated several years before she did, and gone off to pursue bigger and better things. Moreau was always a personal man, but Aubrey had gathered that he was taking over his family''s business. The man had vision. That was for sure.
The next time she heard from him was when she received this letter. She could barely stand straight at the excitement of hearing from him. The letter, however, was quite odd. He was offering her a job at his company - and not just a lowly lab technician. No, he wanted her "Expertise" in stem cell research to help him with a long-term study to be taking place on an Island that he inherited from his father. It would require moving to the island, and intense emersion into the experimentation.
It wasn''t an easy decision to make... at least, it shouldn''t have been, She has just bought a new apartment, had a job interview at John Hopkins the next week. Hell, she was even starting to think about seeing someone, a nice man she met at Starbucks. But working with Dr, Moreau - the single most brilliant man Aubrey had ever known - was nothing short of Aubrey''s dreams. And not only that - on a romantic tropical island to boot!
Her family resisted, of course. Throwing away a promising career at John Hopkins to go jetting away to some obscure island? She didn''t even know exactly what she was to do - Moreau had been very brief. But with her heart full of hopes and dreams, she had arrived at the airport three weeks later, as the letter instructed.
Aubrey fiddled with her outfit as the helicopter touched down on the pad. She has spent over two hours getting ready for her first meeting with Dr. Moreau as a colleague, not a student. She felt like a girl in high school, getting ready for her first date. She stepped out the copter as the pilot came around and opened the door, the angry roar of the rotors drowning out almost all noise.
The hot, heavy air of the island hit her hard as she stepped out, and her perfectly-coifed hair whipped out of place under the intense whirlwind of the chopper. Annoyed, she held the hair out of her eyes as she scanned the island. The pad seemed to be in the middle nowhere, and the only building in sight, a couple hundreds meters away on a hillside, was a very large, looming grey building with Feral Laboratories logo emblazoned on the side.
Aubrey turned to ask the pilot if she should wait here or go to the building, but the helicopter was already taking off. Frustrated and nervous, she turned back to the building and headed down the thin path towards the facility.

Dr. Moreau had a lot to do. Having recently aquired this island he had just had the construction finish, the crewmen paid approiately to not talk about what they were building. Most of them probably didn't understand the equipment he'd had moved in anyway. The invitation letters were sent to the carefully researched staff, but he had one in particular he had made sure was first.
Aubrey Lockheart was a fairly silly girl that he had first encountered in high school, as a senior. He would have been quick to write her off, but he discovered she was amazingly intelligent. She also was... very interested in helping him with his research. He had made sure the first invitation letter was hers, he had a feeling that she would be a valuable and loyal aid. Her medical expertise was exceptional and she was just what he was looking for for a personal assistant.
Moreau thought about all this as he drove the Jeep down the paved road to the helipad. The facilities were fairly deep in island, to keep them a bit safe. The island day was beautiful (not that Moreau noticed much) as the heat whipped in his face. He saw her at a distance, Moreau noticed she seemed to be very well groomed, except for her hair, which the helicopter must have taken care of. Dr. Moreau contemplated if she had any other motives, as he brought the Jeep to a stop in front of her, and opened his door to step out.

Aubrey heard a vehicle approaching - thank goodness - and ran a hand through her hair. She certainly didn't want to be all sweaty when she saw Dr. Moreau...
It wasn't until the jeep pulled up in front of her that she realized it was Nicholas Moreau himself driving. She felt her heart flutter as she saw him. He looked so different... in high school, even college for the most part, he had been so wrapped up in his work that he let his appearance slide. Not that he was unhygienic, or that Aubrey minded at all anyway, but his hair was usually long and unkempt, and his thick coke-bottle classes really gave him that "mad scientist" look But the Moreau sitting here was much different - being a professional did wonders for him. His hair was shorter, shiny, and styled. The lack of glasses really made his eyes shine. Aubrey's knees went week and she approached. It had been so long, but now suddenly it didn't feel as if more than a day had passed since they had seen each other last...
"Nicholas! Its.. its so good to see you again!" She had an overwhelming desire to hug her old friend, but she knew (all too well) Moreau wasn't a touch-feely kind of guy. She held out her hand instead, hoping a handshake would make a better impression.

Dr. Moreau smiled a half smile as he reached forward and shook her hand.
Dr. Moreau spoke, "Aubrey, it's been a long time since I've been called Nick. It's Dr. Moreau now, and welcome to my Island." His voice was deep, but not too deep it was just as she remembered it but perhaps better?
Dr. Moreau ushered her to his Jeep and when she got in got into his side and closed the door. The engine still warm, he pulled it out of park and headed back to the facility.
"I heard you graduated top of your class, just as I did." Dr. Moreau spoke without looking at her, his voice a bit cold but his intention to be nice obvious. His eyes were focused on the road as the intense jungle whipped past them. "I think you'll do very well here."

Aubrey hoped to high heaven her hand wasn't sweating as Moreau shook it. She felt a tinge of electricity spark up her arm, causing her to smile wide.
"Ah, I suppose you're right, it IS Doctor now. Well, its Dr. Lockheart now, too, can you believe that? But you can call me Aubrey." She smiled at him, talking as she sat down in the Jeep. "Oh, or Dr. Lockheart. Or, well, whatever you want to call me, Nic- I mean, Doctor."
She gave an approving smile as she closed the door for her, then turned in her seat to face the drivers side. "Yes, sir. Top if my class. Just like you." She was grinning from ear to ear at her compliment. "DO well? Oh, I sure hope I will! I'm so excited to be working with you! I mean... you're so much more...dedicated than anyone else I've ever met. I feel like just being in your presence puts me amoung the stars!"
She was gushing. She didn't care. "SO..." she took a deep breath of fresh jungle air. "What exactly will I be assisting you with, Doctor?"

There was a moment of silence, as though he didn't hear, or wasn't listening to Aubrey. In that moment of silence the jeep pulled past the clearing... and a first look was given of the facility. It was massive, built on the side of the mountain it had multiple research buildings that each stood about 7 stories high. A power generator that looked like it could power a small city sat near the edge of the facility. As well, a utility building seemed to be providing all other essentials to the labs. Outside of the fence, Dr. Moreau had apparently constructed a city of sorts. The buildings were blocky and obviously meant for utility over appearance but they appeared to be houses of some kind, only some in odd shapes, and even some elevated almost unnessarly. But what was most impressive was not the facility nor the inhabitantless town, but what sat on the cliffside of the mountain. A huge beautiful mansion overlooked everything. It was colored a deep orange with hues of brown and looked rustic in an oppulant sort of way. From the outside you'd have on idea how many rooms it must have but it was obviously built to be a beautiful house.
Dr. Moreau smiled as they drove towards the tall fence which automatically opened. They pulled up the facility and parked in front of it. "I'll show you... it's something that has never been done or attempted before. We'll make medical and scientic history. It has been my life's ambition."
Dr. Moreau's mile grew to a twisted sort. As stepped out of the Jeep and looked up towards his creations and the wonder that had built on this primitive island.

Aubrey's eyes went wide as they full views of the facility came into view. She learned forward, hanging out the side of the jeep, taking it all in. She just watched, wonder-struck, trying to take every in. It looks amazing....beyond words. Whatever Moreau was going here - he was serious about it.
Making history? Oh yes. She suddenly felt the last of her apprehension or regrets about being here get whipped away by the wind blowing against her face.
She leaned back into the seat, her mind filling to the brim with enthusiasm to start working right away, and to learn more about her new life.
"It has been my life's ambition."
Aubrey gave him a most sincere smile. "I'm honored to be with you, Dr. Moreau... to help you with that."

"I'm glad to hear that Aubrey... I truely am. Now come inside and I will show you what I am doing here." Dr. Moreau walked briskley, obviously a man who was not used to having anyone else in tow. He walked towards the largest of the buildings, this one must have been atleast 10 stories high.
The thick metal double doors split open automatically as he approached it. "Genetically coded... to make sure that only authorized personal enter. Also to save them the time of opening a door. Of course it also prevents unauthorized personal from getting out without an escort." Dr. Moreau smiled as if he had just told her the most important thing she'd ever need to know. He led her into the first room, which was some kind of lobby, plants and decore decorated it with a large front desk at the front. There were, noteably air vents everywhere.
Leading her into an elevator that had no buttons. "Floor 10" he announced loudly. After a moment the elevator began to make it's climb rather quickly. Leaving a quessy feeling in the stomach of anyone who was not used to it.
"I hate slow elevators..." Dr. Moreau stated as the door opened into a large lab with a metal table in the middle of it that seemed to have straps on it. A projector rested on one the counters, a white screen already pulled down to accomidate as though Dr. Moreau had been expecting, if not eagerly anticipating Aubrey's very question.

Aubrey hardly had to time to react to the million things spinning through her head. So many questions she wanted to ask, but she didn''t want to ask anything before Moreau had a chance to explain himself.
She was absolutely amazed by the level of technology displayed on something as simple of opening a door. If this is any indication of the technology of the medical labs... my god! She felt like a little girl in a candy store, she eyes trying to take in as much as she could, while at the same time trying to keep up with Moreau''s quickened pace.
She nodded as she stepped into the elevator, standing close to him as opposed to spreading out like most people tend to do. The sudden start, however, caught her off guard, and she lurked forward a put, catching onto his shoulder as the elevator quickly headed up. Hoping she wasn''t blushing, Aubrey gave an apologetic smile to Moreau as she steadied herself.
She left the elevator quickly when the door opened, taking a moment to let the queasiness subside before turned towards Moreau with an interested look of query.

As Aubrey looked at him Dr. Moreau had a smile she hadn't seen since she had assisted him in High School with an experiment. He walked past her, towards the projector and turned it on. As he began to explain...
...Dr. Moreau's explaination went on a long time, as he went into detail about the serum he'd developed, and how with repeated treatments he could litterally merge the D.N.A. of two creatures. He spoke a lot about upstaging human evolution and the uses such treatment could have. He continued to ramble on explaining everything scientifically for a good hour. He skimmed briefly over the unethical aspects of what he had planned, explaining that he needed to try ALL kinds of animal D.N.A. and that willing volenteers were hard to find. Then he went to detail about the facilities he had set up for them to live in. He even noted that it had been some of his early research with Aubrey that he had used as a basis for creating his serums. He explained the labs, and the technicians that would be working here with him. He also explained due to the top secretness of all this, and possible legal ramifications (that might stop his research) why almost no one could be allowed off the island....
"...That is why Aubrey, I need you to be my personal assistant. I need you to be the person I can trust through all of this. Some of the others might have slightly questionable loyalties, but I hope atleast you, I can trust to be above reproach. And to do whatever it is I ask of you." Dr. Moreau stopped after this comment, his eyes not showing it but hopeful that he had made the right choice in recruiting Aubrey. He knew that he was using her obsession with him against her, but at the moment nothing was more important than his project. Nothing had ever been more important than this.

Aubrey sunk into a chair as she watched. This was unreal. She sometimes found herself shifting uncomfortably, forcing herself to remember the apartment lease she broke and huge fight with her mother to remind her that this was real. She glanced occasionally to Moreau, the almost, well, crazy expression on his face reminding her of the passion and ambition he exhibited since the day she met him.
She caught herself tugging at a strand of her hair several times- a nervous habit she'd had since girlhood. When the presentation was over, she got to her feet as Moreau approached. She didn't even know where to start - or what to say.
Thankfully, he spoke first.
"That is why Aubrey, I need you to be my personal assistant."
NEEDS me. He could have had anyone in the world, and he chose me
I need you to be the person I can trust through all of this
Trust. Oh yes. He could trust her.
Aubrey stood there, dumbstruck for a moment. The feeling that he was putting THIS much trust in her... it was enough to leave her speechless. She was part of something big. She was going to change the world... and best of all, she was going to do it with him.
"Doctor I..." Aubrey felt her voice shaking, and she did her best to will it away. "I don't know how to express how honored I am to be able to work with you. I can assure you, I will not let you down."

"I never expected for a second that you would." Dr. Moreau said as he turned off the projector, his eyes no longer meeting hers. He'd seen what he need to, she would be loyal to him.
"I'll need you to code in your voice for the elevators and cabinets," his voice trailed off as he walked across the room; "and your D.N.A signature for the doors." Moreau looked down at what almost appeared to be a wall, but it stuck out slightly.
"Identification: Moreau" he said as a panel slid open, a sleek white device there that appeared to have a place for your hand to rest as well as a microphone built into it. "There you go, just say some common things, and place your hand on the scanner, dead skin folicles will be extracted and your D.N.A. encoded. You will have access second only to mine, giving you complete run of the facility and almost complete access to every device and chemical here."
Moreau nodded to her and ushered her to the device, a sly but charming smile now playing across his face.

"I never expected for a second that you would."
Aubrey let herself smile at this. Perhaps she was wrong...she must have made some kind of impression on him during their time in school together if he already trusted her this much. She ideally wondered if there was anything more that he might have been alluding to, but before Aubrey could mentally hang on the subject, it was back to business.
Thrilled with the idea that she would be second in command of this operation, she happily went over to the device, putting her hand to the pad without hesitation.
"My name is Dr. Aubrey Melissa Lockheart, recently arrived to this island from Baltimore, Maryland. A pleasure to be here, working with the brilliant Dr. Nicholas Moreau, friend and colleague." She gave a friendly smile to him, and quirked her head to ask if that was enough to register the voice recognition.

"Voice Pattern Accepted, D.N.A being extracted" There was a slight feeling of pulling... like static electricity across Aubrey's palm. "Hello, user Aubrey." the monotone female voice said again. "Clearence granted."
"Cute," Moreau mused as Aubrey made her little speech. He smiled to her and turned her around. As they came face to face with a small syringe laying on the counter about five feet away that had not been there before. Atleast Aubrey couldn't remember it being there.
"Oh, I didn't mean to leave that out. How very foolish of me."

Aubrey gave a wry smirk at the doctor at his remark about her speech. She winked at him as she approached, already feeling a little power-heavy knowing she was now second in command to everything on the island. Not that... well, anyone was here. Yet. But that would change.
She blinked at the syringe. Where had that come from?
"Oh?" she inquired. "What is it?"
