Laying on his side in a sweet-scented field, Aureate dozed lightly. It had been a wonderful morning, of running with his new friends, and exploring -always under Sibalto's gaze- and now was time for a light nap. But he really didn't want to nap, he wanted to meet new foals and stuff!
Sitting up, Aureate glanced around. "Anyone out there?"

 A dark head popped up from the grasses. "Kid ya just scared all the game away!" The wolf grumbled darkly shooting the foal a nasty look as she stood up from her crouch. "Thanks ya just cost me breakfast."

Aureate screeched, flailing and leaping to his feet. He recognized the she-wolf as a predator, and scrambled backwards as fast as he could. His whinnies were high and paniced, calling for Sibalto.
"Predator! Don't eat me!" He whined. "I-I didn't mean to! I didn't know!"

Nene blinked as the little colt freaked out. She snorted and rolled her emerald eyes in annoyance as she flicked her ears " Oh calm down kid, there isn't even enough meat on you to make it worth the effort." It was a scant reassurance but as much as he would get from the gruff she-wolf. " What you doing out here alone? Doesn't yer mama know it's dangerous?"

Aureate considered the wolf with wide blue eyes, wings fluttering as he fervrently wished he could fly away. She didn't seem like she was trying to eat him... But.. But.. She was a predator! Where was momma? And Dad? Were his siblings ok?
"Momma and Dad are off with Atum and Isis." He said softly. "I was wandering with Sibalto.. He's my Guardian..."

Nene snorted again " well that was rather stupid of ya now wasn't it kid?" She shook her head trotting over to sniff the colt " Promise I won't hurt ya kiddo. Ain't got no use for hurting babies."

Aureate's ears drooped to the side as he was scolded, and he hung his head, wings reaching toward the ground.
"I... I didn't mean to be stupid." He offered quietly, blue eyes suddenly wide with sincerity and filled with tears. "I wanted to explore.. I want to know things... And, and... I want to make friends... But I can't meet anyone if I don't look, and I can't see anything I've never seen before if I don't look.. So I went looking... I didn't mean to be stupid..."
He lost all fear of her, suddenly mortified that his quest for knowledge was in itself, an act of idiocy. Sniffing softly back, he tried not to let the tears run down his face, but couldn't help a distressed and somewhat dissappointed whimper.

Nene blinked in alarm, looking nervous when the colt started crying. She never did well with tears. "Awww come on little bit, don't cry....really...it hurts my ears." She laid her ears back but sighed moving to nuzzle the colt soothingly " stop the tears now."

"But, but..." He sniffled. "I was trying to be smart! All this time, I've been trying to be smart -ever since I've been out of my basket- and I've been doing stupid things!"
He tried to stop, whuffling and fluttering his wings unhappily. The she-wolf's soft nuzzling helped a little, but he silently wished for his mother's protective company...
"I'm sorry." He said softly, shaking the tears away. "I didn't mean to... Are your ears ok?"

Nene chuckled faintly " It will take more than some high pitched pup crying to hurt me colt. As for being smart..." She sighed flicking her ears as she looked about " It's smart to want to learn but not smart to be out here on your own. What if I had been of the mind to eat you?" She hurried on before he could throw himself into a panic again " I'm not going to but I could have. Your gurdian may be near but I could have killed ya by the time he got here and that would be the end of that."

"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure of that." Aureate offered vaguely, eyeing the treeline. Just beyond the almost-solid wall of greenery, the faintest flash of mist-like silver shimmered. Sibalto. The stallion was no where and everywhere... He moved like smoke, like a wraith. It was cool..
But a little disconcerting.
Turning back to the she-wolf, Aureate offered a faint smile. "If you aren't going to eat me, will you be my friend?"

Nene reared back startled. This odd little foal wanted to be her...friend? Eyeing him faintly she thought for a long moment before sighing " Why? Don't just offer me friendship for no reason kiddo. Friendship should mean more than just words."

Aureate tilted his head at the wolf, baffled. "What do you mean, offer friendship for no reason? I'm offering it because I want to be your friend.. You seem like a nice enough predator-thingy... Since you haven't eaten me -which I am most grateful for, make no mistake- and you seem to be looking out for my wellbeing -albeit in a gruff manner- I thought I might offer you friendship, in the hopes that we could be.. Friends..."
He trailed off at the end, though some of his words were quite fine and elegant, he was still just a foal.. And while in the middle he got a bit of momentum to a thought, the beginning and end were commonly foal-speak, naive, but heartfelt and sweet.

Nene smiled relaxing. The kid had a good heart if a somewhat slow mind. "Alright alright don't get a kink in your tail kiddo. If it means that much to ya we'll be friends." She just couldn't wait for the colt to explain to his parents why he was friends with a wilf wolf...this would be fun.

Overjoyed at the thought of gaining a new friend -and one so interesting as a wolf- Aureate whinnied happily and pranced around, nuzzling the wolf's pointed ears when he returned to stand before her. He grinned, wings flapping and tail swishing.
"GREAT!" He fairly sang. "So, what are you doing out in the woods? Do you live here? Are you visiting another wolf? Am I the first Soq to be your friend? Do you have other friends?"
And now came the driving force of his personality.. While Aureate demanded to be the center of attention, he also demanded something much more worthwhile, at least in his mind. He demanded knowledge. He wanted to know the how's and why's and when's of evertything... No matter how many questions he had to ask...
