A great folk metal band.
Their '07 album, "The Varangian Way," is excellent. Though "Battle Metal" is hard to beat.
And yeah, I also heard that they put on an insanely awesome live show.
But yay. Nice taste.

Loved the band for a long time now, but just recently have a new reason, so listening to them a lot again lately. I actually havent even heard most of their new album - just whats on youtube, so ill have to get it once my pc is internet capable again.
yeah their show looked pretty damn good, just thought their accordion guy tried WAY too hard, and ended up spewing OJ out my nose when i watched it the first time, but i guess its better than if he just performed on stage like a lifeless POS *shrug*.

Mjollner and i still cant see how... #1) I don't enjoy folk metal. #2) Their symhponics have a quality that REALLY irks my chain. #3) Their vocals aren't amazing, and their vocals are the best part of the band. #4) Devil in the Kitchen does everything better, anyway.

Not faiirrrr. scream #1) Folk metal is as stagnant as power metal. Bands constantly rip each other off day and night. #2) They're not the best folk band. In Extremo, Subway To Sally, Skyclad still own those titles. #3) Devil in the Kitchen just goes beyond folk. Not even Skyclad can compare, they're entirely different in every aspect. Awesomeness personified.

Awesomeness personified.1) I completely disagree. I really can't stand most power metal bands (minus a few) for that reason. But I think folk/viking are much more diverse and unique. The overall sound plus the inclusion of violins, mandolins, flutes, etc. go amazingly well with the harsher metal sound. But everyone has their own tastes, I guess. 2) I know, I said they weren't the best. I agree that those 3 bands you mentioned are better, along with a number of other bands. But that doesn't mean they aren't good. 3) EXACTLY. That's why you shouldn't compare them. D=<

The same progressions are used in most songs, the same song patterns get ABUSED by bands over and over again in folk metal, hence my uninterest. This is why I listen to pure folk music: it's simply rehashing of the original songs of the times. folk + metal = no. Folk metal sells like crack cocaine in Europe because of this. #2) It was a personalized opinion. I take no interest in anything that isn't potentially the best in folk metal because I believe it is a stagnant genre outside of a VERY few select bands. Don't forget that folk/black also has a problem with this, something I abhor. #3) Haha. I can't argue this one. xd
