She'd been through that hallway at least a dozen times during the day, and she was quite positive that the man hadn't left his office once. And so, the woman took it upon herself to travel to the mall and retrieve some food. Being an Italian, it took her some arguing with the food court girls and a lot of having to see the food before she decided on something. She found the American staples - like hot dogs - to be utterly repulsive, and could not fathom the staunch doctor eating them. There had to be something healthier, something that tasted better that she could work with...

An couple of hours and a headache later, Alex found herself standing in front of his door again, fingers curled around a plastic bag and water bottles tucked under her arm. Not wanting to startle Kenth again, she gave a few sharp knocks, waiting to hear his voice before trying to enter.

"come in."

Kenth said without having have to get up, still focusing on his work. He had just submitted about three reports to the medical center, one of them being a request to continue his personal grant. Of course, time wasn't an issue, but he did feel his stomach grumble a few times, signifiying a possible meal time.

Who would come in at this hour?

The woman entered and closed the door silently, only the rustling of a paper bag giving her away. "Good evening, Doctor," she said quietly, making her way across the room as if she had done it a thousand times. Alex glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes, unsurprised that he was still working, as though he hadn't moved from the last time she saw him.

She carefully went about opening the containers of food, not bothering to explain why she was in his office at that hour, carrying cartons that had delicious scents wafting from them as though she belonged there. Instead, the woman went about setting out a paper plate with some plastic ware - as no dishes or silverware seemed to be available at the mall - complete with a cup for the water bottle.

"Huh." Kenth huffed. It took him a while to look up from his work, and when he did, his facial expression showed an obvious expression of bewilderment.

"Alex? What are you doing here?" Kenth glanced quickly at what she had brought in, although his nose could already tell that they were food. "you..."

Alex glanced over in time to catch the bewildered expression, earning him a sideways smile. "I brought you dinner," she replied, opening the containers and using the fork to get the food onto the plate. There was a still-hot chicken breast, angel hair pasta and half of a potato that had been sliced. She put some condiments aside - such as sour cream, salt, and pepper - before turning to look at him with a warm expression. "Some protein for you. You need it if you want to heal properly."

Kenth continued to look at Alex with his still bewildered expression. Although he nodded after a while, and looked down at the food.

"Thank you...but..." He looked up and shook his head. "Eating in the office is not allowed."

Kenth wasn't lying, for there were poison samples hidden behind the cabinets of the room for reasearch purposes. Because of that, his (and some other teacher's) rooms were strictly for work purposes. Food wasn't allowed, and sometimes not even water.

"so I am afraid that you will have to go outside and eat yourself..."

The woman chuckled. "You're very welcome. However..." she put the water bottles down, "It's not for me, it's for you. I'll wrap it up if you insist, but promise me you'll eat it." She retrieved some napkins from the bag, spreading them out with the intent of covering the food. Alex looked over to him from time to time as she finished, starting to move the food to the bag. Calm green eyes turned to regard the doctor thoughtfully, waiting.

Kenth hesitated. He wanted to say that he had work to do, but...

"I will, give me a moment." He sighed eventually, and turned back to finish up what he was working on. It wasn't something that could be finished quickly, and to keep someone waiting seemed to be rude according to him. So soon after he typed up a few lines, Kenth turned back to Alex again.

"It'll take a while, I am afraid. If you have anywhere you must go, please feel free to."

She arched slender brows at him in question, watching him work for a moment. Did he think she expected him to eat in front of her? That made her laugh softly, shaking her head at his last words. "I was going to go for a run, but I wanted to bring you dinner first. You've given me your word, and I expect you to eat this before midnight tonight." Alex put the bag with the food aside, enough so that it wasn't in the way of his work, but close enough that he wouldn't easily forget it.

"While I'm flattered that you keep trying to keep me here," she winked with a playful smile, "I wont impose on you further. I know you're a busy man, Doctor, I wouldn't fool myself to think otherwise." The smile turned a little wistful, her eyes dropping a bit. "I just thought you could use some dinner."

Kenth frowned a little. What did she think she was, his mother? "I will eat them when I feel hungry." He replied in a small voice, almost grumbling to himself like a little boy.

"And I'm not trying to keep you...go where you have to go. I'm sure... that man would be expecting to see you soon." Kenth almost said Greg's name, but he stopped himself in time. "That man" was enough. Alex would be smart enough to figure out who he was referring to, and that saved him some effort.

"That man, huh?" So the good doctor really did have some type of vendetta against his brother. She had assumed as much, never having actually heard him say it, but putting together his reaction to her antics and Greg's...it made sense. "I didn't find him today. I spent most of it just laying on ice." Alex smiled a little weakly, still not willing to admit how bad her back still hurt her, even now.

She sighed, kneeling next to Kenth while going through great lengths not to touch him. "You should know I'd rather sit and chat with you, but I don't want to waste your time. Like I said - I know you're busy. I'm just trying to come in and...y'know, say Hi and see how you're feeling." Alex wasn't trying to be protective this time, as she honestly just wanted to see him. "If it's a pain, I wont, it just makes me happy to see you." She gave him a wide smile as though to prove her point.

Was the woman being polite, or was she saying these things as truths, Kenth could not tell. He his eyes shifted between Alex and what was on the computer screen, never stopping words sprewing from his fingers. He was silent for a while, trying to find something appropriate to reply. Eventually he sighed.

"You are welcome here anytime. I am afraind I am not a warm host, however." He paused, made some corrections in what he typed, and continued.

"You shouldn't be walking around if your wound hasn't completely healed."

He had genuinely surprised her. Her green eyes were wide, her lips parted, her eyebrows lifted high. She gaped at him for a moment before giving herself a mental slap and grinning ear to ear. "Really? Well...I appreciate that. It's all right, Doctor, I don't expect you to drop everything. It's just lil ol' me here."

Alex shrugged a little, refraining from grimancing. Crouched down as she was and moving at all was causing a great deal of strain on her back, but she was trying to be as friendly as possible with Kenth. He made her feel...safe, gave her a purpose to keep trying, even if he didn't realize it or care. "It's just bruises, some blood spots. Nothing broken or otherwise in need of healing." She tapped her temple, amusement tinging her voice, "My skull is thick enough that those scabs don't bother me.

What about you? How's your back?" A pause. "How's your--"

“Hey Kenth! I brought cake!” Greg said as he bustled through the door, holding the aforementioned entire in a box in his hand. “I knocked on the door,” he didn't bother to add the 'really, really lightly' in there “but no one answered, so I just came in.” As Greg noted that Alex was in the room as well he smiled wider.

“Alex! I didn’t know that you would be here! That’s great! I have cake for both of you, and that’s something that the both of you could use. It’s medically proven to be helpful when you’re getting over some pain because it’s tasty.”

"--!!" Alex gaped at the red-head as she was interrupted, more than a little surprised. She looked between Kenth and his older brother as the man rambled on about cake, finally lapsing into laughter as he finished his informative tirade. The woman stood slowly, her back giving a crack loud enough that Kenth may have heard it, causing her eye to twitch, although her smile never wavered. It didn't exactly feel good.

"Cake solves all?" she questioned in good humor, her laughter subsiding into a jovial grin. "Your way of thinking never fails to amuse me. I'm glad to see some things don't change." Alex shook her head before putting on a mock-stern glare, "Dangit Larine, I've been looking for you all day! Where have you been hiding?"
