A RIVER THAT COMES OFF THAT FEEDS THE FOREST AND ALL ITS ENHABITANTS. THIS RIVER WAS SAID TO BE ANCIENT SINCE THE GODS CAME DOWN AND STRUCK IT TO FLAMES YEARS AGO. THE VILLAGERS FEAR THE VERY LIKES OF WHAT THE RIVER MAY BRING, BUT FEW HAVE SEEN ITS FURY. ALTHOUGH MANY FEAR THIS MIGHTY RIVER, ITS STILL A PLACE THAT WARRIORS COME TO TRAIN AND TO FIND PEACE. MANY TRADES ARE HELD YEARLY ALONG THE RIVER AS WELL.

"Agghh!!!" Beatrix yelled as she struck her sword into the tree. She whiped the sweat from her forehead and sighed. I guess it should be time for lunch Beatrix thought as she looked to the sun and saw that it was about noon.
She choose a spot under a shady tree and pulled an apple out of her bag she carried with her everywhere. The apple tasted deliosious going into her hungry stomach. She got up and drank from the river when she was done with the apple. Beatrix had to be careful not to lean to far over the water. There was a legend saying that if you displeased the water faries by drinking to much of their river water, then they would drag you in and drown you. And of course she believed in legends for some reason, although she had never seen anything like that happen in her simple world. Oh just stop believing in silly old fairy tales. Save them for the children in the villages she thought to herself.
All that she had wanted since she was at least 8 was to revenge her mother and fathers death. all the other warriors thought it silly for her to have such hate in her heart at such a young age. but she was 14, well old enough to take care of herself. At least that was what she thought. She lived from place to place, but always staying outside a main village. Beatrix had always thought of herself as very independent, but if she was really independent, she wouldnt need the company of other humans. All she needed was her sword to protect herself and her hands to find food. She just couldnt stand to be away from humans for to long. Beatrix had always thought that was a weakness of hers, she just never let anyone know about it. Why should i? she thought I may not be able to stay away for to long, but what is that for them to know?

Beatrix had made up her mind as soon as she woke up the next morning. She would go to the market in the village today. She wanted some different food besides the berries she normally ate, and plus she needed to buy a horse. She had gone into the village often enough and helped a wealthy old man fix up his cluttered dirty home. And in return he had generously given her more then enough coins than she needed. Besides, she had gotten tired of walking around everywhere she went, now she could have a horse to carry her around. And maybe i wont be so lonley all the time. she thought. It took more then two hours to get to the market. It was very crowded today. There were preformers everywhere on the street, and people pushed and shuved to get a good view. She just pushed past them and went straight to the food stand she liked best. Squawk smiled at her past the man who was arguing with her.
"Yes i understand sir, but you know as well as all the rest of us that prices are going up these days." Beatrix could hear the annoyance in her voice.
"I can barley afford it!!! And my family will starve..." the man trailed off and turned his head.
Beatrix knew what Squawk would do, she had such a soft heart. And like she thought, Squawk put a watermelon in his hands. "Dont let this make you think you can live off me, i have it just as rough as you, sir."
Joy covered his face. "Thank you so much!! May the king bring glory to you!" With that he turned and left.
Squawk turned back to Beatrix. "If i thought he would bring glory to me, i would have blessed him a long time ago." she said to Beatrix in a low voice. Beatrix just nodded. "I would like to buy some fruit."
"Of course you would!! After all, they all come to me to buy!!" she said, smiling, and spread her hands out far. Suddenly someone pushed Beatrix into Squawk. She almost feel if she hadnt have caught her. Beatrix turned around to see who it was. But she couldnt tell by the swarm of people crowding a platform.
"Come all thee who want to see the worlds best preformance!!"yelled a young man standing on the platform. He was dressed in red and black, with a huge smile on his face. "I've come from far away, and you wont be disapointed!!" At that moment he started pouring honey all over himself. "This, keeps the fire from burning me." He must not be from around her. she thought. magic was unthought of and forbidden. Everyone was just quiet and watched him. Obiously no one was going to warn him. Someone had to.
He blew from his hand and fire came to life in the form of a flower. People gasped. He bent down and showed it to a little girl who's eyes were wide with excitment. "Would you like a flower, little lady?" He smiled. The girls mother put a protective hand over her shoulder.
"Stop!!" she heard herself yelling. He looked straight at her with curiosity. "Magic is forbidden here. You could be arrested and killed." Her heart pounded as every head turned to her. It didnt seem to fase him. "I go and come where i please."he shrugged. "But thank you for the warning. I will keep my eyes open." And with that he got up and walked straight out of the marketplace.
"Odd young man, is he not?" Squawk, who had been quiet as all the others spoke now. "He seems to have no fear in his body at all." Beatrix just nodded.

The next morning Beatrix woke up to the sound of squaling and fighting. at first she thought it was from humans, but when she whiped the sleep from her eyes, she saw that it was actually two large birds, probably Sqwaks, the most populous birds for a long ways around. their huge bodies lunged at each other until blood was seeping down their beautiful feathers, but neither seemed to notice, they were to caught up in the fight that they barley noticed anything around them. From experience, Beatrix knew that these fights usually lasted till one or the other died. But it was unlikley for two mother birds to fight, unless it was over territory or their nesting grounds. But both of their eggs were at a reasonable distance from each other. What could they be fighting over? Beatrix ran toward them, trying to make herself look bigger then them, even though they were slightly taller then her. She screamed and ran with her arms in the air like a maniac. Nothing. They didnt notice her till she picked up a stick and started wacking them with it. they both looked at her with large, round black eyes. Beatrix was ready to run away from them as fast as she could, thinking they would chase her, but they stood there. I guess their just to tired to start another fight she thought.
She watched as they weakly strood back to their nests where their chicks were calling hungrely. Only then did she remember that they were fighting over something. a glimps of light blue among the green leaves caught her eye. She walked over to it and picked it up. iit was a warm egg. much larger then any of the Sqwaks could ever have been. they must have thought it was one of theirs.
Glancing around, she saw no one and heard no one. it would be safe to take the egg. obviously the mother had abandoned it. that usually meant the baby was dead in the egg or she could sense it was disformed, but the egg was warm and their was life inside of it. So she took it back to her little camp area, wrapped it in a blanket and hugged it close to her as she fell back asleep.
