Here is my first video that I made at home. I have been doing ballet twice a week for only 2 weeks or so, so please don't chomp me up - I'm just a baby in this sport. 4laugh I stretched before this vid, but not as much as I usually do in class. I also wasn't holding on to anything. wink

Very good for your first few weeks at ballet. heart I know it's hard to do things without a barre, especially when you first start. Sorry if I'm being a bit mean for your first critique, but I only mean to bring these things to your attention. I don't expect you to fix all these things in a matter of weeks or months. sweatdrop
I noticed that you put your weight in your heels, try to lift out of them and be on the balls of your feet, because it gets you prepared for doing things on demi-pointe. Also, try not to lift your heels in the grande plie in second, try to make your second a little wider. Try to not bend your knee before doing a tondue, too. When you junp, PLEASE PLEASE do NOT land on only the balls of your feet, you might get shin splints (from which I've, hurt tons). Try to also get your knees right over your middle toes. Turn-out comes from the hip, this way your balnce could be more stable and you would not need to rock back and forth. Not to mention, you could tear the cartilage in your knee, which may cause you to get knee replacement at a young age. You foot also sickles when you tondue or degaje to the back.

That's not mean at all. ^^ It's funny, I'm having a lot of trouble bring my weight onto the balls of my feet, since I'm serious horseback rider, and all your weight needs to be in your heels. It's something I'm working on, and I often have to check myself during class. What is a good way to get your knees farther back in plies and such? I'm trying to open up the hip, but I don't know what it's supposed to feel like. And what is sickling? smile

Well, I think a good way to get your knees further out it to do the "butterfly" stretch, you know the one where you bend your knees and try to get your knees closer to the floor. After, a minute, try bending forward slowly! There is also, basically the reverse of that strech. You lie on your stomach and bend your knees, but this time you try to bring your feet to the ground. But, make sure your hips stay on the ground! Another strech is to lie on your back, bring your legs out to the side (make sure they stay straight the whole time) and then try to push your legs further out to the side by physically pushing your legs down with your hands. If any of this does not make sense, just ask! But, even after all the advice you gave me on putting pictures up, I still remain technologically challenged and still can't seeem to figure out how to put the darn things up..... sweatdrop
You could look at the resources sub-forum (I think) to look at what exactly sickling is...but, when I saw you degaje to the back, you should try to have your little toe reach to the ceiling instead of having your big toe reach toe the ground....it's hard to explain.....

keep your archs of your feet rolled up. try to roll through your feet when tenduing. good luck!

I know about the heel issue. I finally got it straightened out in dance but then riding stopped and now my heels aren't down gonk It's a challenge to do one thing in one thing and the complete opposite in another 3nodding
When you say trying to open up your hip do you mean turnout from the hip? If so that's always easiest to ask your teacher seeing as they'll be able to tell you if you're doing it or not right now and show you how to fix it. For me I can't explain what it's supposed to feel like you just kinda do.

I know it's hard on the carpet, but PUSH THROUGH THE FLOOR PUSH THROUGH THE FLOOR PUSH THROUGH THE FLOOR. You do it sometimes, then you don't do it. Do it all the time. XDD Especially when tendu-ing to the back. And when you're doing those crazy battement things, you're sickling your foot when pushing. Keep those ankles strong! <3 And it looks like when you stand, you're rolling your ankles inward. Maybe trying turning in a little more, because your feet are out-turning your hips and knees.
But very good for the first two weeks. Well done. <3

Really great job! try to tighten your knee cap muscles more when your legs are straight. Also, try to keep your body more aligned when your at the bottom of your plie. to help you do this think of your stomache and rear end muscles as a "muscle sandwich" just keep them tight and intact and voila! your straight and aligned!

I know this is a bit late, but you need to work on standing on your pinky toe (well all five not JUST that toe) if anything less on the arches.

this might sound funny, but i watched this video on youtube before i knew you'd posted it here!
honestly, all the critiques you have already received have been the best advice you could receive. you are doing very well for such a short amount of time. post something new soon. i'd love to see you after a few months. i bet you wont even fall back without the barre.
