The white female stalked aimlessly through the tall grasses of the Pridelands. She had traversed the entire Pridelands with her great great grandmother, and she was anxious now to see what was beyond the safety of the pride's barriers. But there was something that kept her back, something that kept her from setting foot on rogue lands without anyone with her. It was a strange feelings, but she always trusted her feelings.
Stopping her wanderings, she lifted her head and squinted her eyes at the sky. The sun was bright today, as it always was. She rather liked the sun, she had concluded. Other lions with darker pelts than her own complained that it was always too hot, but she never understood what they spoke of. The sun was wonderful! It made the flowers grow and made life bright. Being naturally cheerful and happy, Amesi loved the sun.
Flicking her tail, she continued onward. Having not much else to do, she began musing to herself. She had head that a lot of new litters had been born lately, yet she hadn't seen any new cubs running around. Was she looking in the wrong place?
Suddenly inspired to find a cub, any cub, she bounced forward and giggled to herself. These were often her days: random wanderings that turned into strange adventures. But they passed the time, and she liked occupying herself with silly little tasks. Others probably didn't understand, but that didn't much matter to her.
"Oh little cubs!" she sang out, swaying gracefully through the grasses. "Come out, come out where ever you are," she giggled.

A soft growl escaped the cub as he trudged along the Pridelands, his ears pinned back. What a horrible day! The sun was shining, and for that very reason, he was very much irritated. He could feel the heat seep into his deep, brown fur, causing him much discomfort. To be honest, he didn't know whether to blame the sun, or the color of his fur for this. All he knew, is that he wanted to find shade.
Stepping into the grass, Kusanagi frowned, before attempting to rise on his hind legs. Being rather small, seeing over the tall grass seemed to be a dilemma for the cub, so to see over the grass, he'd have to stand taller. Of course, standing on ones hind legs wasn't that easy either. Wobbling, he somehow managed to right himself up for a moment, catching a tree in the corner of his eye, before falling backwards and landing on the ground with a thump. Grumpily, he flailed his legs for a moment in an attempt to roll over and right himself up.
'I wish I were bigger.' He thought, with a silent sigh. There was nothing Kusanagi wanted than to grow up quickly. Afterall he - in his opinion, that is - was a very mature and adult-like cub. What he wanted from others was respect though, and no matter how mature he may act, he was still stuck in a tiny, child's body. Finally, he managed to sit back up, and, ears pricking up, the male then proceeded to run in the direction of the tree, craving the shade it would provide.
There was yet another reason that he wished that he was larger - he'd be able to see over this long, dratted grass. Due to the fact he couldn't see over it, Kusanagi could merely -hope- that he someone else wasn't in it, and that they wouldn't collide. Luck didn't seem to be with them that day, however, as the moment that crossed his mind, he ran smack into something, or someone, white.
Tumbling backwards, he winced, ears flattening again. "Ouch."

Feeling quite the opposite as the cub about the condition of the day, the white female pranced along merrily. Some thought it was strange how optimistic and overly cheery she was no matter what, but that was simply the way she was. That was the only explanation to give, and, really, what else did she need to say? It was the way she was and that was that.
Continuing along, still calling out to the nonexistant cubs, Amesi began to wonder if someone had lied to her. There were no new cubs! Yet right as she thought this something bumped into her. It didn't hurt, and it didn't do much to throw off her walk, as she was much bigger than the thing that had bumped into her. Well, what was it?
Glancing down with bright blue eyes, black ears perked to their fullest extene, she gasped with joy at what she found.
"CUB!" she exclaimed, dancing around on her paws. "Oh they were right! There really are new cubs!" She must have looked like a lunatic to the cub, but this was all completely normal for her. "And you are so little!"
Not long ago, she had been that little, and even smaller still since she was small for her age and always had been. It was strange to think how old she was now. Why, she was almost a fully grown adult! She was able to have cubs of her own, and that just seemed stranger still. When had she grown so big? Time seemed to fly by and she wondered if things would always be this way.
But, not really one to muse much on what might happen, she focused instead on the cub in the present. "Ommigosh you are so cute!" she squealed, a large smile plastered on her face that ran from ear to ear. "What's your name?" she asked suddenly, lowering her front end so that she could look eye to eye with the cub. Not long ago she would have been able to simply stand and be level with him!
Suddenly, she wished to be a cub again. She was expected to have more responsibilities now and to act more adult-like, not like she normally acted with her cub-ish antics and such. Pouting, she sank down to her belly and rolled over. Throwing her head back, she looked at Kusanagi upside down.
"Well?"

Kusanagi had been relieved by the little shade the tall grass had provided him, however it certainly wasn't enough for the dark-pelted cub. He had been so very close to getting to the tree - so very close to being able to be relieved by the bright sunlight in the pleasant shade. Unfortunately, it seemed he had been a little hasty, and he bumped into an 'obstacle' - literally.
Laying his ears back, the brown cub stared up at the female almost incredulously. The first thing that went through his mind was not who this young lioness was, but, '...She's older than me!?' The very idea that someone who was older than him, and yet seemed far more like a cub made him scoff.
How immature some could be. Really now, no one would gain respect acting like that! Or at least, that's basically how the little, male cub's mind worked.
Hearing the word 'little', Kusanagi flinched. For a moment, he sat there silently, before rising to his feet and puffing up his chest, frowning boldly at Amesi. "I am not 'little'," He said, defensively, "I'm merely a young cub, is all." He pricked up his ears in an attempt to look unbothered by her comment. To be honest, though he tried to hide it, it really did irk him quite a bit.
Looking over her, the small cub could feel his bold frown wavering. She was so much bigger than he was! Would he ever be as big as her, when he was her age? Or perhaps even bigger? With some time perhaps...
"Wha - ?!" He was thrown out of his thoughts as the young lioness lowered her head, and the two were eye to eye. Cringing, he replaced the frown on his face, clearing his throat. "I'm not cute." He informed her, in a matter of fact tone. "I am -mature-. Not cute, not adorable, and not -little-." He stressed the words, speakly slowly and clearly.
Before he could decide whether or not to give his name to her, his eyes widened a bit as she suddenly rolled over. Staring at the upside down female, face to face, Kusanagi leaned away, startled.
...Maybe, like he was an adult trapped in a cub's body, she was a cub trapped in an older lioness's body?
Hesitating, he eyed her silently for a moment, before letting out a sigh. "My name..." He grumbled, shifting, "Is Kusanagi."

When the first thing to come out of the cub's mouth was an indignant 'I am not little,' Amesi was a little put down. She frowned and shifted slightly so that she was back on her stomach and could look at him right side up. He was little! Or, at least, he was smaller than her, and she was already small anyways. So why was he saying that he wasn't?
"But-" She was about to protest that he was, in fact, little, when he replied to her that he wasn't cute and he wasn't a whole bunch of things that she knew he was. She thought he was cute, adorable, little, etc. Why did it bother him so much?
"Well, okay," she spoke quietly, still trying to figure him out. "You are... mature." It was so strange to say. He was a cub! He was supposed to be like her, happy and ready to go on an adventure. Wasn't that what all cubs were like? At least, that's what she had been like and also every other cub she'd met when she was that age. Were all the cubs 'mature' like this one now? Troubled, she narrowed her eyes and flicked her white tail.
Yet then he gave his name and her mood was brought back up again. "Nice to meet you, Kusanagi!" But then she frowned. That was a slightly long name, and it tired her out to say it even once, let alone more than that. She decided that she would have to nickname him. Smiling suddenly, she wiggled and lay her head on her paws, blue eyes peering at him brightly. "I'm going to call you," she spoke, thinking. But she couldn't think of a nickname that pleased her. "Do you have any nicknames?" she asked instead.
"Oh, and you can call me Amesi!" she said excitedly. She was finally meeting someone new! "Or something else, if you want. I don't mind," she giggled.

His nose stuck high into the air, the small cub sat up straight. He would priove to this female that he was neither cute nor little, but mature. Mature and adultlike. Afterall, that's what he alway strived to be. Kusanagi really needed to loosen up and enjoy his childhood.
Hearing the older lioness call him mature, the brown cub felt a boost of pride, puffing up his white furred chest. That was a much better compliment! "Thank you." He replied, in a half happy, half stiff tone. Perhaps he was going a little overboard. Indeed, the majority of other cubs within the Pridelands, and even outside, were far more curious and carefree than this one was.
Cocking his head to the side, Kusanagi observed Amesi with bright, golden eyes, before frowning, more thoughtfully than anything. "A, er, nickname?" He repeated, flattening his ears. His shortened name seemed a bit too...childish. Even so, heaving a sigh, the cub gave a little nod. "Well," He started, hesitantly, "One of my siblings just calls me Kusa. So you can call me Kusa, or Nagi, I suppose."
"Amesi?" He repeated, as if testing the name. Then offering a very awkward grin, he give a small, polite nod. "Er, nice to meet you. You have a nice name?"

Amesi watched the cub with pure amusement. He was saying he was 'mature' but to her it was simply all a game, all an act. He was a cub! Cubs could be mature to a point but normally they didn't deny that they were cute or adorable or anything. At least, none of the ones she had met previously ever did that.
"No problem," she giggled, rolling over again. It was obvious she wasn't taking him very seriously, but she'd play along if it pleased him.
"Yeah, a nickname," she spoke again, this time more serious. She didn't like having to pronounce long names, and though his was one of the shorter ones, she still didn't like having to say the whole thing every time she wanted to call out to him. When he finally revealed his nickname, she smiled and wiggled slightly. "Kusa! I like that. I'll call you that, okay?" She giggled and pawed at him gently.
"Nice to meet you too, silly," she giggled. When he spoke that she had a nice name, she shook her head and covered her face with her paws, pretending to be embarassed. "You really think so?"

[[ @__@ Sorry for the long wait. School overwhelmed me this week. XD; ]]
Completely unaware to the fact that the lioness wasn't serious as she spoke, Kusanagi mentally grinning, his tail waving to and fro in silent delight. Yay, finally the respect he wanted and deserved! Maybe Amesi would make a good friend...afterall, he admittedly liked the 'respect' he was getting.
"Mature seems a lot more pleasant than being called cute. Afterall, I plan on being clever and adultlike for my whole life. I wouldn't want to grow up as a childish lion. Others would probably look down on me." He said, with a huff, puffing out his cheeks.
"Mm, okay. You can just call me Kusa then." He agreed, with a small nod of his head. Blinking at Amesi, he tilted his head to the side for a moment, observing the furry, white and black paw she reached out with, before batting at it lightly. "You're a lot bigger than I am, Amesi." The cub commented, wrinkling his nose, "I wish I would be an adult already. Being a cub is no fun."
Kusanagi made a face at the lioness, sticking out his tounge in a moment of childishness. "You don't have to pretend to be embarassed, y'know. But I do, actually. Plus, you're one of the first other lions I've met, aside from my family, and all."

Amesi giggled slightly to herself, attempting to keep it in. She knew now that this cub was serious and didn't much like the fact that he was a cub. It seemed to her that he'd make a much better adult. But he was so easily fooled by her words! She wasn't a trickster or mean, but she liked to play games every once in a while.
Yet as he began speaking again, she could barely contain herself. "But you're a cub! You should like having fun and just enjoying yourself. You don't have to--" But she cut herself off as she heard his next words. He spoke of how he didn't want to grow up as a childish lion, since then others would look down on him. She just blinked at him, staying still otherwise. She didn't act like much of an adult and was rather childish sometimes, and so this struck her as offensive.
"What's so wrong with being childish?" she asked quietly, looking down at her paws sadly. Did others really look down on her because of her behavior?
Continuing to be moody, she huffed and shook her small head. "I'm supposed to be bigger than you, because I'm older. But I'm small compared to everyone else my age. It stinks!" Folding her black ears back, she glared at Kusa. "Having fun is what being a cub is all about. I don't see why you can't understand that. No one will look down on you for being a cub, which is what you are. They might even look at your strangely because you don't act like a cub."
But this wasn't her. She wasn't mean like this, and she never snapped at anyone. Sighing, she lay on her belly and rested her head atop her paws. "I'm sorry Kusa," she said quietly. "I just don't see how being a cub is so horrible, is all."
Why was she so moody? She was never like this before. What was happening to her?
