There was a smile on Aki’s face as she road her bike up to her friend Steves , who was like an older brother to her, apartment. Good thoughts were running through her mind. She would could see herself handing Steve a cup of coffee when she got there and she would congratulate him for finally breaking up with his fiancé Alicia. Steve had always complained about how she cheated on him and how she woiuld never contribute to the household. Worst of all, he didn’t even love her. Aki was glad that he finally got out of a relationship that was bad for him.
She reached the apartment complex and locked her bike on the rail in front of the door she would enter. When she entered she found his roommate Mike sitting on the couch playing on the playstation 2, and his other roommate, Sheela was on the other side of the room playing on the computer. She looked around, her smile erased off of her face.
“ Where’s Steve?” Aki asked.
Mike looked up from the playstation controller.
“ In the room,” He said, his teeth gritted.
“ Is he with Alicia?” Aki said, her eyes widening.
“ yes,” Sheela said, as she turned to look at Aki.
Within a split second, Aki was at the bedroom door. She flung it open. She let out a scream at the sight she saw on the bed. Alicia, a dark haired girl, was naked on top of Steve. The two of them froze at the sight of Aki in the door.
Aki’s hair flaired and her face turned boiling red.
“ Oh, hey sis,” Steve said, as if nothing was happening.
“ what the ******** is going on here?” Aki squealed.
“ Oh….we got back together….” Steve said, keeping a cool head.
“ Ok….” Aki said walking into the room, “ I thought you said this was for good? What the ******** is wrong with you, Steve?”
“ Steve, just ignore her, if she has a problem them she needs to leave!” Alicia said.
“ No, Alicia! I am not leaving!” Aki yelled, “ I am not leaving until figure out exactly what’s going on here!”
“ We broke up and we got back together,” Steve boomed, “ plain and simple.”
“ I got that,” Aki said, “ What I don’t get is that you say you don’t love her, you complained for six months about how your only with her cause you feel sorry for her, and complian about her cheating on you. So you finally break up with her because you can no longer put up with her bullshit, and now you hook back up with her? Steve, I want you tell me why you keep putting yourself through this!”
“ No, because you don’t approve of anything I do!” Steve said.
“ NO, steve , you got it wrong, I am trying to get you to do the stuff you want to do. You want her out of your life, but you continue to torture yourself by keeping her in your life.”
“ I’m sorry, sis, but I love her.” Steve said, “ And if you have a ******** problem, you can ******** of and get out.”
Aki stomped her foot down, “ Oh, so YOU DO LOVE HER???”
At that moment, Sheela and Mike were in the doorway, listening to every word that was being said.
“ Then why didn’t you say so in the first place, STEVE???” Aki screamed, “ From the beginning, all you did was complain about how you went back with her because you felt sorry for her, and that all she did was ruin your life and drive you crazy! Why did you lie to me?”
“ Because you don’t approve!” Steve said.
“ The only reason I didn’t approve was because of all the things you said about her in the beginning! If you woiuld have told me from the beginning that you loved her I would have been happy for you! It’s not like I even knew her in the beginning!”
The room was silent. Aki glared at the couple on the bed. Alicia looked down and Steve frowned. Mike and Sheela exchanged glances.
“ Continue what you are doing,” Aki growled as she stormed out of the room, pushing past the two eaves droppers.
She ran outside. The breeze was blowing and a few cumulous clouds were moving above. She leaned on the rail. She heaved a sigh as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a pack of Marlboro reds and red lighter. Lighting a cigarette, she took in a huge drag, almost choking on the smoke.
Steve had lied to her, the bottom line. If he would have just told the truth from the beginning, she would have supported Steve’s decision to be with Alicia. Sure, Aki had lost her temper, but she knew that she did for the right reason. Not only was she tricked into believing that Steve hated Alicia, but she was also made out to be a fool because in the end it WAS a lie. She knew she could never trust her surigate brother again. She had always had trust issues. Ever since she was a kid, people had played jokes on her and even spouted creul lies to keep her from blowing her top. In the end, she ended blowing her top because she found out the truth in the end. In the end, she had only lost her temper because she was lied to, not because of the truth. She realized that no matter how much she tried to trust someone, she would find that no one trusted her and she would lose faith in those people. She realized that once again, she had lost trust in a friend.
After finishing the last of her cigarette, she took a deep breath and went back inside.
Steve and Alicia was snuggling on the couch. Mike had abandoned the video games to cook in the small kitchionette. Sheela now had the games taken over, playing Kingdom Hearts II.
“ Steve, I want to apologize for losing my cool, but I do not appreciate you lying to me. You have officially lost my trust.” Aki said.
“ It’s ok, sis, I understand.” Steve said.
“ And Alicia,” Aki continued, “ Sorry I was so hostile toward you. I do see where you can be annoying but if Steve loves you then it’s perfectly ok with me.”
Alicia gave a slight smile. She jumped up and hugged Aki. The two girls almost cried in eachothers arms.
“ Thanks for giving me a chance, Aki,” Alicia said.
“ It’s cool, just one thing,” Aki said as the two girls face eachother, “ if you ever hurt my brother, you will regret it.”
“ oh, I promise I will never hurt him,” Alicia said, “ I love him and I never want to leave him.”
“ Good!” Aki said with a smile, “ So….what’s for dinner?”
“ Staying Aki?” Mike said.
“ No reason to leave now that I am no longer surrounded by lies.”
