It was a pleasant enough afternoon. A few white clouds dotted the great expanse of clear blue sky, and the sun had already passed its zenith. The faintest of breezes swept over the earth, rustling the grass in a peaceful way. There were no shadows to be seen on the golden land, except for one figure.
Her fur the blackest tones of night, a young lioness perched on a large boulder, surveying the empty plain with little interest. The fierce lizard on her side glimmered faintly in the afternoon light, her tangerine eyes seeming to almost contain flames. Usiku'ilanga had spent many days in his area, and each afternoon looked like the one previous. There had been no change in the weather, and very little change otherwise. A few grass-eaters passed by every now and then, but as for other hunters? She'd seen none. The remains of one of these unfortunate herbivores lay at the base of the rock, half-eaten.
The dark lioness could not decide whether being left completely alone was a good or bad thing. Her anger of a few days past had finally dissipated, an anger brought on by a particular male. Luckily, she'd managed to avoid him entirely. But she could feel her voice slipping back into disuse, becoming scratchy in the back of her throat.
Perhaps being entirely alone wasn't all it was cut out to be.

A smile was etched upon the features of an almost pure white female. Little lashes of green decorated her bottom eyelids and more past that and were easy to spot on her virtually untouched fur. A green marking that some would place as a marking of grass decorated her left shoulder and two rings of green had written themselves upon her tail.
There was a bounce in her step, something that showed everyone that she was rather cheerful. Things had been going fabulous for her as of late and for once she thought she couldn't be happier than she already was. There were a few empty spaces in her heart, she longed for the children that she had so carelessly abandoned however many moons ago and for someone to spend time with besides the white, black lighting marked male she had recently grown so fond of.
She pushed all sad thoughts from her mind and continued to walk cheerfully along, her violet eyes moving from place to place scoping out the area around her. It was rather peaceful and enjoyable.

The black lioness had been staring at the horizon, her bright eyes glazed over. She was in a lull, currently. That peaceful stage right before sleep where the world blurs and all you can hear is the gentle hum of the cicadas nestled in the grass. Just as a yawn was beginning to stretch her muzzle wide, exposing her pearly white fangs, her bleary sight caught a hint of movement.
Lifting her head from her paws, Ilanga's ears swiveled forward. Definitely movement. Albeit, far off, but still a noticeable stark white against the background of yellow grass. Her yellow nose lifted to the mild breeze, inhaling deeply. Lion. Female. Adult. The thoughts passed rapidly through her head, mingled with a sense of relief. The young lioness wasn't too terribly fond of the male strain of her species. Yet, she'd always gotten along quite well with females.
Raising slowly to her paws, she created an extremely noticeable silhouette against the still savanna, perched as she was on top of her rock. There was no way anyone for miles couldn't see her from this height.

Malika's eyes flickered over the dark silhouette in the middle of the savanna. At first she thought nothing of it, thinking her mind was possibly playing tricks on her, it wouldn't be the first time after all, but her violet eyes flickered over the silhouette once more as she grew closer. Now she could no longer ignore it, especially with the yellow that stood out against the black.
"Hello there!" Malika called out as loudly and cheerfully as she could, which wasn't exceptionally loud but loud enough, at least she thought so. She turned slightly and made her way toward the other.

The young lioness tossed her black tuft to the side, letting her tangerine eyes scope out the approaching feline. There was no aggressive posture in the white female's body, and she couldn't smell any emotion on her that would cause Ilanga to worry. Besides, she could always use some interaction every now and then - so long as it wasn't that annoying charcoal male. She wrinkled her nose at the thought of him. She prayed to the gods that she would never have the misfortune to bump into him again. She assumed he was a rogue, like her, and so the thought of wandering towards the lands of a pride appealed to her. There would be less of a chance of running into him there.
Her lithe body slid from the rock like black liquid, sleek muscles gliding smoothly underneath her fur. She strode only a few paces from her perch, head high and ears alert, letting, instead, the other lioness come closer to her. Dipping her head politely, Ilanga spoke as soon as she was within normal-voice range. "Greetings. What brings you this far from civilization?" Her voice was as light and cheery as she could possibly make it, which wasn't too terribly much. So long on her own had seemed to weaken Ilanga's sense of happiness.

The white lioness, an obvious contrast to the other, continued to smile cheerfully as she approached the other before stopping not too far away and letting her close the distance as much as she thought fit. She settled her butt against the ground and let her tail move back and forth behind her against the ground.
"Greetings" She responded nodding. "I was actually on my way to civilization, heaven knows that I need it, been traveling for so long..." Her soft voice grew even softer when she came to the realization that she was rambling. "Ah, what about you?"
Things were going rather well for her so far, ever since she had left that wretched oasis life was looking up and so much better for her. Malika had a great friend taking her to a place she had heard was fabulous and things couldn't be better! Yet the lioness felt something was missing.

Ilanga let the smallest hint of a smile pull the corners of her muzzle up. She always had such a serious expression on her face, that letting such a thing happen was absolutely amazing. She settled her own rump on the ground, curling her tail over her front paws. Back straight and rigid, she seemed almost statuesque.
Her ears perked forward at what the other lioness said. There was a pride nearby? She hadn't realized...As much of a loner as she was, Ilanga had found herself craving the company of others of her kind. The females of her kind at least. "Traveling as well," she said, and her mouth spoke for her without her even realizing it, adding, "Looking for a home, I suppose." As soon as she said it, she was mildly confused. She'd never admitted that to herself before, but she supposed it must be true. And if she was subconsciously looking for a pride to join, she'd been doing a rather sorry job. She hadn't wandered much further than this in quite some time, and even when she did see lions, she usually avoided them. Perhaps Ilanga was finally reaching out for some sibilance of a family, since everything before adolescence was a blank slate for her. She had no recollection of a family or pride, except that she knew she must have had them at some point.
"How long have you been traveling?" she asked curiously. "I'm Usiku'ilanga, by the way. But, please, call me Ilanga."

Even though the smile was a small, barely noticeable smile it helped make Malika more comfortable. It helped ease her nerves about meeting someone new. The ivory lioness was glad that she no longer stuttered and had much better control over her nerves than she had in the pass. It was a miracle she ever got anywhere in a conversation with the way she stuttered before.
"Traveling is nice, for a while but it's good to have a place you can always return to and be welcomed at." She commented in reply to the ebony female's words. She had stopped speaking to think about the other's question. How long had she been traveling? It had been quite a while. "A bit too long for my liking. I'm not exactly sure when I started but I do know I'll be stopping soon enough."
Another pause and she smiled. "It's nice to meet you Ilanga, my name is Malika'Eusi but you can call me Malika or Mali if you'd like." It felt nice to talk to another female, she hadn't had too much contact with female's since she was a juve, the few she met while traveling weren't the kindest but this one seemed nice enough so far. "I think I've found my home, or at least where my home will be. Maybe you'd like to make it your home too."

Ilanga had never spoken to others with the greatest ease. She never seemed to find the right words, unless she was horribly angry at the other creature, or if she was simply cranky. In all truth, though she hated to admit it, her recent encounter with that annoying charcoal male had exhilarated her. It wasn't that often that she got to actually argue with someone, and Ilanga seemed to enjoy testing others' wittiness against her own. Yet this conversation with the white lioness seemed much more relaxed, enjoyable even. Ilanga was beginning to suspect that she didn't much mind the company of other lionesses.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Malika," the black lioness said, dipping her head again. She tossed her black tuft to the side, exposing both tangerine eyes. She motioned to the half of a gazelle near the large boulder she'd been napping on. "I have some kill leftover if you're hungry. It's too much for me to eat on my own."
She lowered her hindquarters to the ground, ears swiveling forward. A home. She was intrigued. If she could somehow find a position in a pride, a hunter mayhaps (since she didn't quite like children), she felt she'd be content. "Where is it that you're traveling to?" She did want to know more of this potential home.

Malika smiled and politely shook her head at the lioness who contrasted her so well. "No thank you. Maybe later?" She replied with a slight tilt of her head at the end of her sentence, her tuff of fur falling over her eyes before she blew upward in an attempt to get it out of her eyes. Her attempt failed however and she shook her head before it finally went away.
"The Pridelands. It has a giant rock in the center I believe where the queen and king reside." She paused wrinkling her nose as she thought about it thoughtfully. Surely Ilanga had heard of it, who hadn't? Even back when she spent her cubhood in the jungle she had heard stories of it from creatures that would pass by from time to time. "I've been told by Sekizen, my friend, that it's home to many and is very welcoming and open to new members."
Talking to Ilanga was very relaxing and comforting, she enjoyed spending time with Sekizen and talking with him, but it was also enjoyable to meet and talk to someone new. Just as she was doing now.

Ilanga eyed her own kill behind her. It was a sizable creature, and she regretted that it would probably be left to be torn to shreds by rogue hyenas and wandering vultures. The dark lioness detested such creatures, and wrinkled her golden nose at the thought of them.
"Pride...lands?" she said slowly, turning her sunset eyes back to the white lioness. She'd never put a name to the location, but she had seen such a rock in her passing. "Is it a large rock, with two peaks? One flat with the horizon, and one towards the sky?" She hadn't realized anyone lived there, and had thought if they had, it must be a formidable fortress of a pride. She was surprised to hear that it was such a welcoming place, and the wheels of her mind began turning slowly. "And are you planning to make this pride your permanent home?" She laughed softly at herself. "I'm sorry to be so inquisitive, but it's been so long since I've run into anyone. And I have been looking for a place to finally settle down myself. I've been traveling alone for far too long."

Malika listened intently to what was being asked of her. She thought about it and nodded. "I believe that that would be it." She replied rather confidently when she finally answered. The white female had to really think about the next question. She was looking forward to going to the Pridelands but did she want to stay there permanently? In all honestly she wasn't sure, what she did know was that she did want a home, a place to stay in that would be permanent. Then there was the male she traveled with, he lived there and she so enjoyed his company, very much so. She could even possibly be falling in love with him.
Working her tongue over her teeth she opened her maw and responded. "Yes, I think I am." It had taken her sometime to decide but she knew that somewhere in the beginning that she had thought that way from the start. It would be the perfect place to start over.
Malika shook her head at Ilanga's next words. "No, no, you have nothing to be sorry about, it's fine. Really." She smiled softly. "You should come with me and join the pridelands, I'm sure you'll fit in fine."

Ilanga smiled just slightly, nodding in satisfaction. It was nice to finally put a name to such an intimidating place. She had only passed by there once, but even from a distance she could smell the scent of a multitude of lions. She couldn't be sure how many lived there, but it had to be a very sizable amount. It almost intimidated her. But then again, in a place so large, it would be very easy to get lost amongst the crowd. Also, if she became one of the huntresses, her hunting schedule would be rather lenient with so much help around.
Starting over. That was something Ilanga desired for herself. She had no memory of her past and she wished to at least have some memorable moments before she passed away - though that was a very long time away, as she was still very young.
Her ears perked up at Malika's suggestion. "Perhaps," she said slowly, her brow furrowing in concentration. Her eyes brightened and a slow smile spread over her dark face. "I think I shall." Whether Ilanga would stay with Malika the entire journey was another matter. She was sure to become a little...skittish as they approached the pride. Lions in such large numbers intimidated her, and she wasn't even sure she wished to make that her home.

Malika was ecstatic to hear that the other would join her. It would be great to know another lion in the pride, if the other wished to join, before she actually got into the pride. It would be helpful too, because although Malika was usually pretty upbeat and friendly she did have those shy moments that often made things difficult, like letting her stuttering get the better of her sometimes.
"Fabulous!" She exclaimed. "From what I've seen and what my friend has told me even though there are a lot of lions that inhabit the lands you can go for a while before even running into one. Sorta odd don't you think?" She questioned. Whether or not it was odd to Ilanga it was odd to Malika, but at the same time rather comforting. It meant that you could have space and that it wasn't too crowded.

"That is awfully strange," she said. And it was. To be able to meander about the lands without running into twenty different lions was a comforting thoughts - and also meant the Pridelands must have quite the domain. She couldn't imagine what the rulers of such a majestic place could be like. The thought of going to them to request permission to join their pride was a tad bit...intimidating. Yet, knowing that she would know at least one soul within the pride was comforting.
Smiling, the reptilian-marked lioness got to her paws. "Shall we, then? I suppose there's no better time than the present to get underway." Ilanga was very excited at the moment with the prospect of a happy life dangling in front of her eyes. She was also looking forward to traveling for a bit with Malkia. It was good to have company for once - company that she could stand. Most likely, Ilanga would separate from her white companion. It wouldn't mean that she disliked the other lioness...simply that she was restless, and most likely wanted to go at her own slow, wary pace to the Pridelands. While she was very happy to be going there, she was still fairly nervous about the whole idea.
Stretching her sleek black body out, she paced a few steps forward before turning and looking back at the other lioness. "Thank you for letting me come with you."
{I think that pretty much wraps this up if you want to do one last post? I'm probably going to snag you for an rp after I get Ilanga officially joined to the Pridelands. xD}
