Hello, and welcome to Cureaholics Anonymous. I am sponsor Numi.
Our topic today is when did you first realize that you were a Cureaholic?
I will share my story with you now:
I had heard the Cure a lot when I was young and was fond of them, bought their albums and went to a show with friends at the tender age of 14.
All seemed well, they were just a band I liked. Then I found myself going to record shops buying LP singles, colored vinyls, interview vinyls, import cds, bootleg concert LPs, even trading tapes of shows. The next thing I knew my Holly Hobby wallpaper was covered by posters of the band, on the ceiling were wall size posters of Robert, one from Lovecats, the other was for Pictures of You and then it hit me, I was hopefully addicted to this band for life with no escape, and no willingness to either.

Who is next to share their story?

OOOh. Me! Im next. whee

Okay well.. it all stared near the beginning of this year (i really wish i couldve known about them sooner) I went over to my stepmoms cd stand and was looking for some more cds to borrow when i saw about 8 Cure albums. I picked up Disintegration and begain to read the lyrics in the sleeve. Without even listening to the music i had already fallen in love with them. About three days later i was watching one of those video countdwn things because i had heard that Robert was going to be interviewed. Thats how i found out about Curiosa, and luckily i persuaded my parents into letting me go. . . even if it was the night before the first day of school. gonk Well after finding out about that i think i listened to them for 4 months straight, ONLY THEM. I began collecting pictures and music videos, and e-bay quickly became my favorite site. I also printed off picture collages of the Cure and carried them around everywhere. My computer's wallpaper was a picture of the Disintegration and Kiss me albums. O.O I even downloaded the album fonts!
I suppose thats ill i can say for now cause i gotta go, but yeah. Thast my story.

Nice story. I had the fonts too, until my hard drive crashed. I have to find them again. (bad me I didn't have them backed up like I should have)

So anyone else want to share?

Well I was at the time a big fan of the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! I downloaded a music video for Yami Bakura and the music playing was a cover of A Night Like This! (At the time I did'nt know it was a cover infact I was'nt in to music!). Anyway I noticed the artist was The Cure and I had fallen In love with the song and decided I would take a chance and ask my mum if she'd heard of The Cure.

eek She had heard of them! she said that she and my dad were huge fans of The Cure in the 80's! She then went through her record collection and gave me there 4 records of The Cure! (Let's Go To Bed [The Single], Faith, Pornography & The Singles containing 'A Forest', 'Primary', 'Charlotte Sometimes' & 'The Hanging Garden').

Sadly, I did'nt have a record player at the time but I decided I would download some of there music. I started with A Night Like This (That was when I found out the previous version was a cover, BUT I STILL LOVED THE CURE'S ORIGINAL VERSION, AND I STILL DO NOW!!!) then I downloaded all the ones that had the most people downloading them.. Close To Me, Boys Don't Cry and so on and afterwards I downloaded some more songs by The Cure, in a month's time I had become a Cureholic!

I then started going into stores and buying their albums untill i'd bought every album anyone could find in town! I searched through the left over bins in The Warehouse and found a rare 1983 interview with Robert Smith! I went looking for their DVD's and found two which i've now bought! I started looking on the web to find out more about them and then I started searching for pictures too print out, laminate and put on my walls! (Seeming I can't find any posters to buy!!! crying ).

And now regarless of people say to me I can proudly say i'm a curehead! and that they are the best band in the whole wide world!!! 3nodding

.. Anyway that was my story and I hope you enjoyed it! biggrin

Quite so!
Posters were always hard for me to find, I am happy I found the ones I did. I remember once someone offered me $100 for my Siouxsie and Robert poster. I said no.
I use to laminate article pictures I found and put them in my school binder. Confused the heck out people when I opened it. Now they reside in a binder that is SOMEWHERE in the house...I lost track of it when I moved three years ago. sweatdrop

I heard the Goldfinger cover of Just like heaven. those lyrics were so great, I couldn't get em outta my head. I went out and bought galore. listened to that thing for 6 months straight. I then bought the other single collection staring at the sea, and I found disintegration at the salvation army for 50 cents... and then I picked up the trilogy collection. I recently got the special edition 3 imaginary boys collection. I love em to death! domokun

Well, one fine fall day some three years ago, a friend of mine lent me a CD of his. It was one of those mixed CDs that had all sorts of songs on it, and I had mostly wanted to borrow it because it had this really cool live version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen on it.

But anyhow, I take this CD home, and one of the last tracks on the disc was a sad, sweet, perfect song with an English-sounding singer. I was something like 14 years old, and I thought that it was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard in all my life-- I was in love, man! I went online and typed in some of the lyrics of this song, and I found that it was called 'Just Like Heaven' and that it was by some band called the Cure. The next day, I mentioned to the same boy who had lent me CD that I really loved the song 'Just Like Heaven', and as it turned out, the Cure was one of his favorite bands. The next day he brought in 'Boys Don't Cry', 'Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me', 'Disintigration', and the 'Greatest Hits' for me to listen to.

Within a week, I was addicted surprised For months, I listened to the Cure almost exclusively. Somewhere along the way, I developed an irrepresible attraction towards pale guys with badly screwed up hair and lots of dark eyeliner. Since then, I have bought most of the Cure's albums and have spent hours being a huge loser and scouring WinMX and Kazaa Lite for acoustic, live, and cover songs by the Cure. I went to the Curiosa Festival too, it was at an outdoor venue and it was absolutely pouring, but it was completely awesome!! The Cure is probably my all-time favorite band heart

Hello, my name is Dramatica but you can call me Tic Tac. And I am a Cureaholic. xd
Well, I think my addiction was slow,.. I started out likeing the hits then I just had to get the albums... and the t-shirts....
and here I am. 3nodding
Actually, I've thought of this story I wanna make a comic/manga out of, (i'm an artist). It will be fairly Twilight Zoney.
See, this guy, whos a big Cure fan, falls ill, but no doctor can tell him whats wrong with him. So he's like dying, and then he hears a Cure song and we find out he was suffering from Cure withdrawl! I wrote out the details somewhere... I just can't remember where. sweatdrop
Sorry if that doesn't belong here, but its just rather curious cos the guy in the story needs to go to Cureaholics Anonymous! xd

Well, considering my big sister was a fan of The Cure, I must follow in her footsteps. I started listening to The Cure, about a year and a half ago, because I heard on the radio "Boy Don't Cry," and I thought the voice was damn cute...Anyway, I was CD shopping one day and ran along a Cure album (Greatest Hits) and decided to check it out. I listened to it everyday, nonstop, started downloading more things, and everything. I thought it was meant to be considering there is a song "A Letter To Elise" and my name IS Elise. heart whee

sssshhhh...don't mention comics around Numi, they are her second addiction next to the Cure, but no, it's okay to post this here. Sounds like it could be an interesting miniseries, or might be good for one shot story in a series of odd tales. For a while I was thinking of writing a few comic stories based on Cure songs, one song from each album per story and have them all tied together by the end. I might still do it if I get up the courage to actually share my scripts. (last time I did that was in high school and my teacher stole my script from me..wah! I am also aoverly critical of my own writing, I am hoping that reviewing will help me get over that). If you have to just re-write your story outline and then work on the details.

I will. Right now it is less about not having the contacts but the courage to actually do them, plus I am thinking about making sure it is okay with Robert to base some of the stories on his songs. (I have a friend who works in radio so getting the contact information, again, isn't a problem, the problem is with me being extemely shy....which is funny considering all the people I have met I really shouldn't be.)
You should try either keeping a binder to write your ideas in or write them on the computer and then print them out as well as save them on disc. Usually if I write something I want to keep I do all three.
-sighs because her review didn't come out as well as she had hoped-
I am WAY out of practice as far as writing goes. heh.

My story's pretty simple:

My mother was a Cure fan for years before I was born (in 1987) and so I just grew up with that being the only thing in her CD player besides Nine Inch Nails and Elvis Costello, and the only videos played on our TV besides my little sister's Sesame Street Singalong.

She lost interest after Wild Mood Swings came out because she thought it sucked, so she gave me all her old shirts. (My prize possession is a shirt that's at least twenty years old from their tour with The Pixies and Love and Rockets). I've also inherited her CD collection, to which I've added another five or six albums that she didn't have, and that's how I got to where I am now.
