Does anyone listen to them? I spend about 1.75 hours in the car everyday, so I started thinking about getting a couple audio books (ones I'd already read) to listen to. The only time I've ever listened to one was when I was first introduced to The Phantom of the Opera. My phan-obsessed friend listened to it as she fell alseep during a sleepover, several years ago. But the narrator was rather monotone, so I wasn't too impressed. neutral
Good experiences; bad ones? Would you recomend them?

I think that they are good for those who dont have a lot of time to read, However I cant take listening to them. The narrator always reads slower than I do so I cant seem to enjoy it very much.

I have to drive an hour to and from college so audio books are a nice way to pass the time rather than sift through pointless radio stations. I enjoyed listening to The Fifth Angel. I need to get more audio books once school starts up again.

I have a friend who never actually READS, she just listens to the books on tape, and I think that kind of takes away the point of READING a book. I mena, if you're in the car and you are incredibly bored, I think they're cool, especially if you're driving, but I think I would choose a book over a book on tape.

I have the 3rd and 4th Harry Potter Books on Tape (or rather, CD) and in my opinion, the unabridged version is excellent, I really like it. The Narritor(sp?) is surperb.

I'm not all that big on audio books. I've only listened to one and that was in the 6th grade when we read the first Harry Potter in class, that was kind of nice cause then I could hear how to pronoce (sp xp ) names, places, and words. I just prefer to read books myself and not listen to someone else, it wouls drive me crazy to hear the book but not have the page open in front of me.

I usually don't listen to audio books unless I want people to leave me alone while I'm shelving. (NEVER talk to a library employee with five carts to shelve. gonk )
I have trouble paying attention to spoken language, so I usually stick to text.

I've never really listened to very many. I did listen to "The Return of the King" by J.R.R. Tolkien though. It was quite good. I think they are good for in the car or when you're too busy to read, but mostly I prefer reading books myself.

In 7th grade my teacher bought the audiobook for Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers. I almost killed myself. The guy read waaaaaaaaaaay too slow.
And when we read Where the Red Fern Grows, the guy read too fast.
And when we read The Giver, I just laughed when the guy would read.
So no, I don't like audiobooks at all. I'd rather read at my own pace.

HATE audio books. i think that books were meant to stay on paper. if you can't take time to read the books then don't read them at all or wait for the movie to come out. for me audio books take away the magic of reading. of letting your imagination run wild. audio books kill that with a boring voice.
