The ebony mare paused at where she was, she raced back and forth. She could endure so much more than before. Every morning she went running until she almost collapsed. She was sick of being everyone's friend...everyone's door mat, nothing more than a sister. She snorted slightly swiping her leg with her long tail at the surrounding pests that flocked to her sweat.
Her heart raced, every day seemed to be the same and become more like the last. She wanted something more, what was wrong with her. Everyone of her friends was mated, had a family or doing something with there life and what was she doing? Was she really that pointless? Her emerald eyes scanned the lands as she started to trot and got her speed up again. Sweat beading at her brow again. If only her father could see her now.

There was something to be said for mindlessness.
In truth the simple act of rendering one's self mindless was cathartic in itself, but not quite as much as being able to honestly say (later of course) that for a brief moment the cares and worries of the world were naught but a distant winter memory.
With practiced ease Blais pushed himself to his limit, charging and rearing, leaping and kicking. Gradually his mind faded into the background as he lost himself in the movements. His foe? Well the white stallion was hard put to keep ahead of his pupil's youth and brute strength, twisting away at the last moment, and even using his wings once or twice to scoot that extra inch to avoid the flashing hooves. Overall Crousader was pleased, despite the close calls, Blais fought with poise, calm, and usually... clear thought.
But the look in his eyes troubled the older stallion. Blais was not here, his body was. Blais was elsewhere, and the hooves kept coming, becoming less satisfying and more tiresome.
Eventually Crousader just took to the air, choking down a chuckle when the colt barreled right into a tree and continued to kick it. "Enough boy, go cool out, I'll be at the encampment." He stated, and without waiting for a reply he took himself away, leaving the younger stallion to come back to himself.
Gradually, and as he regained his breath, Blais's vision cleared and a semblance of rational thought appeared. Crousader was gone, but he did remember his master's parting words; though he wondered about the lack of intervention. Usually Crousader never failed to point out a wandering mind.
Snorting, the painted stallion took himself off towards the meadowlands at an easy lope, keeping his muscles loose without tiring himself out.

Cynara snorted roughly as she was maxing out, knowing it but keeping the task at hand in front of her. Imagining thoughts of her hidden past as she threw them all behind her hoping that they would've just faded with time yet they seemed to grow and haunt her. Soon she found herself running in circles, it didn't take her long to figure it out. The grass of the empty valley was torn almost to shreds. She stopped slowly whispering, "Circles..." She looked to the bright sky in her heat of sweat, "Circles." She walked around the same circle calming her own self down.
She hadn't seen civilization in so long it seemed that she forgot her communication skills admist it all. Maybe she should go into the village and get reaquainted...who knew what she'd do. She was pretty indecisive these days.

Hoofing it through the dark woods, Blais noted with a small snort if surprise the torn up quality if the meadowlands ahead; having intially thought the small valley was void of soquili life.
Coming to a halt at the edge of the flats, he lifted his head and sniffed the faint breeze, picking up the familiar tang of sweat of the air, and a familiar scent. His brows crinkled forward in thought, trying to place the memory, but like mist maidens it evaded him.

She turned as if feeling the prescence of another was near and as she did, she could scent them. She traveled closer and closer until she could see above the slight ridge to see a familiar painted face with that same creme mane. Her thoughts wandered whether to speak or just move on...though that would be rather rude. She hadn't seen him in such a long time it seemed.
She finally got her thoughts together to whicker out a "Hello," to her old friend...well...sort of. She looked back to the lands she had just made a track in and sheepishly looked back to him with a slight blush. "How are you Blais?" he himself looked as if he were contemplating something. As if he could have perhaps been training? Or just thinking very hard, or day dreaming. One out of three, then again there were more possible answers like him turning into a sociopathic killer who didn't show his emotions but she highly doubted that was the case. She REALLY....really needed some social time.

Oddly enough, once his memory reasserted itself, Blais realized that his friend's presence was exactly what he needed right now. Not necessarily words, just her presence and the knowledge that in the big wide world.. this person here knew who he was.
Now a bit more at ease and firmly in the here and now, he flicked his tail against his hocks to chase away a bothersome insect and answered her greetings.
"I'm doing alright Cynara, just caught a bit of the wander bug. How have you been?" Innocent enough question right? Idly he wondered what had sent her tearing around the meadow, but he decided not to ask unless the oppurtunity presented itself.

"Alright," she smiled, noticing a look in his eyes as if saying, what the hell? "You know if you wanted to know what I was doing you could have just asked." she has a smirk on his face. Her curled tail flicked around anxiously. She had missed his company...
She remembered the day they met...when he almost plowed her over. She had met his trainer as well, she remembered the white stallion well. He was hard to forget.
"I was just releasing some...tension?" she shrugged. As she tried to pursue the conversation as she walked towards him so the conversation was more appropriate.
"How's that chivalrous Crousader doing?" she teased slightly. But in all honesty she did want to know.

He grinned at her boyishly, and in a stroke of uncharacteristic (and very Biscuit-esque) charm, winked at her and opted too let her accurate reading of his expression slide.
"He's probably off angsting about having too rescue a damsel-in-distress while she cries pretty tears into his pristine coat." Unfair to his mentor really, because while Crous did dislike most mares with a passion, he wouldn't just fly by one in need.
"Otherwise I can say in all honesty that he hasn't dulled a lick in the time you haven't seen him. Likely he's still able to beat me soundly and still attend a party afterwards for all the mess I'd make of his appearence." Sad truth, because even though Blais had noticed a change in the way he fought and oogled at the difference in his height and that of his smaller, fine boned mentor; Crousader had years of experience that the painted stallion just couldn't match.
Flame on the other hand... he could handle too an extent. On a really good day.
"Has that run lessened this tension you speak of?" He left that open, if she wanted to talk about what had bothered her he hoped she could again read his expression and see that he would willingly listen.

She laughed slightly at his intuitions on what Crousader could possibly be doing. However they were to be made into a bit off hysterics.
"One of these days..." she replied. "You'll be able to fight just as well as him and it will become as stand still and neither of you will no what to do with yourself." she joked slightly.
She nodded, "I think so...then again I was interupted." she smirked. "So perhaps instead of the hard running that released tension it was just the start of a polite conversation with a friend?"

He appreciated her humor, and snorted in amusement. "Indeed, though when that day comes I'm sure Gully will have something to say on the matter... likely jump on one of us to tip the scale." He paused, glancing down to hide a slight shadow in his eyes. Gully hadn't been the most energetic recently.... he hoped the bear would come around soon.
Shaking his head he looked up again with a wider grin then before. "Well! How about you and I finsih that run of yours and talk while we go?" Pathen had called it hitting two birds with one arrow... and it seemed appropriate.

She laughed, "He would though," she was always amused with that bear. She found him to be...cute. Her ears perked forward, she missed hanging with the crew that Blais did. They were a lot of fun, and Blais didn't seem to intimidated by her father. She couldn't say that for a lot of people.
She noticed his grins and found them to be charming...she had been thinking of him a day before when she was with a different stallion talking, and dwelling upon the past. It was rather ironic for him to show up, and she couldn't be more happier.
"I wouldn't mind a run, but I'm sick of running in circles," her emerald orbs twinkled slightly, "I'd love to catch up though."

"Then let's run with a purpose." he jested, tempting fate a little by reaching forward to nudge her shoulder playfully.
"And we can catch up under the shade of that large pine."

She smiled with a soft laughter, "Alright." she nipped back at his mane with the same playfulness. She nodded at him, her tail flickering as she exclaimed...one...two...and she took off.
She was a cheater! Oh my...no she did it to throw off the much larger stallion in a teasing matter. It's not like one couldn't tell with her beaming face. She ran happily letting the breeze flow through that shortened mane of hers.[/size]

Her acceptance, as offbeat as it was, sent a shiver of excitement though his frame. Whinnying a challenge he sprang after her, hooves digging deeper furrows into the already churned up earth. Many mares he had come across, run with, cried with, fought with. Many stallions had offered him friendship, angered him, and even tried to kill him.
But none could compare to the level of feeling he felt for his new-found kindred, and now this lithe darkling racing ahead of him. Of his family, he would gladly fight to protect, die to ensure their continued safety; or so he thought.
This mare though, she had intrigued him when the first met, especially her courage when dealing with his incorigible mentor and his ever confusing father. She had made him laugh, stood next to him, and now when he compared her courage with the petty mares of the Clearings and their lightning fast dalliances. He understood what it was Tai had spoken of then, when the brown and gold stallion spoke of Esper.
Cynara though, he couldn't identify if this growing restlessness, the pressure to LIVE for her, run with her every day until the sun failed to rise at the end of time could compare to the soft quality of Tai's eyes when he spoke of his mate.
Yet...
Blais was an avenger wasn't he? Bound to the sins of his past by the hate of his old herd and their filthy ideals. Family... to them at least, was nothing but a mask, a face to wear in front of others but not to feel. the had forged of him a killer, and he had killed... both to defend himself and their warped lifestyle.
Crousader had taught him otherwise, had forced the reconcilition between father and son... but with the failed attempt to heal the long standing wound in both stallions, the betrayal of his ingrained beliefs was weighing again on the younger.Let the dark thoughts come, and let them go... He could almost hear Crousader's words now, and he smiled slightly to himself. Indeed, in this Crousader was the one to know.
Tai and Flame had taught him through limitless patience and infinite kindness what family could be... But neither could teach him about the other part of family. The one the demanded a counterpart, a friend, and a partner to stand with against Fate's cruelest winds. He had to learn that for himself.
Tossing his head, Blais put more effort into lengthening his stride, pushing himself to run alongside her; and in another fit of playfulness, he nipped at her flanks. "C'mon fleet-foot! Or I'll overtake you!"

That small ebony frame was muscle, she had been taking it easy...she had warmed up she didn't feel like going fast. She just wanted to stride by his side and feel his warmth. Was that was she was yearning for the other day, his prescence? His support? But could he be there for her the way she felt she could be for him and was...she didn't want to fall for an arrogent air head like the last...but she knew he wasn't as such. She needed protecting even though she wouldn't admit it. Protection for her heart, cause she as tired of doing it herself. The last time she fell, she had gotten up and become guarded except around him. It wasn't a mistake. She had fallen again...and quite hard. She liked the sensation of being with him.
She looked over her shoulder and bucked around with her smile on her soft face. Her nose wrinkled as she attempted to stop that nonsense...it tickled. "I'm sorry, I was waiting for you to catch up!" she teased.
