I found this on ask.com:

Daimyo (Japanese, “great holders of private land”), feudal lords who dominated Japan from the 12th to the 19th century. As leaders of the samurai (warrior) class, they gained control of the imperial court in 1160 and in 1192 established a military dictatorship, the shogunate or bakufu. During the 15th and 16th centuries, central authority broke down, and regional magnates (sengoku-daimyo) fought continually among themselves. Unity was finally restored by the daimyo leader Tokugawa Ieyasu, who founded the Tokugawa shogunate in 1603. Under the Tokugawa there were between 200 and 300 daimyo, all firmly controlled by the shogun. The daimyo class was abolished in 1871, after the fall of the shogunate.

I don't think that makes lord sesshomaru really a lord, not unless he has some land hidden away somewhere, or his own military disctatorship.

I really don't think that Sesshoumaru is a daimyo or has vast amounts of land. But I think I know why they call him Lord Seshhoumaru. In the Japanese version they call him Sesshoumaru-sama. Sama is an honorfic used for someone higher up than you on the social pyramid or someone more respectable. It's also used to refer to Gods/goddeses/deities. So in the English translation they use lord because it's the closest approximation in English.

Although I have to point out that in the Japanese version, Miroku is frequently reffered to as Miroku-sama or Houshi-sama, and Kagome and Kikyou occasionaly have -sama attached to their name.

I hope my explination of -sama makes at least some sense beacause it's really hard to explain.

Well, the term "lord" doesn't always mean like a ruler. It's used alot as a term to show authority. Besides, This isn't real. I mean he is a demon for crying out loud. So, you get my point. He is my fave person in the show smile .

He's just called Lord cause, He protected Rin, so Rin thought it would be a nice thing if he name hin LORD and he's the strongest in his group, so it's somewhat like master...and form of respect...
hope that explains it...

He owns the western lands with a poison fist. He kills large demons and all bandits to keep them off his property.

Well, that might be true. I think that Jaken calls him "my lord" because Jaken looks up to him. I really dont think he truly is one. Although, lord is a very broad term, so it could be that hes just not that type of lord.Im sure there are many types of lords.....So who knows....lol.(I just went around in a circle didnt I?....*looks at post* yeah...pretty much...o well.)

I's most definatly Fanfic, beacuse the only information we get about Inuyasha's parents is: His father is a powerful dog demon who died of Ryukotsusei's wounds, His mother was a fallen noble woman, and Seshoumaru's mother is still alive while the series happens. Oh and InuTaishou is a title not a name, it means more or less means dog general.
