If Microsoft owns Rare, how is it possible Rare makes games for the Nintendo DS?

I guess Rare signed an unbreakable contract with Nintendo before Microsoft took over.
That's all I can think of.

Wikipedia sez they made a deal with THQ. Actually, the first game they made after beeing bought by M$ was on the Gameboy Advance.

Microsoft owns Rare, but in their relationship, they only make console games for Microsoft. They can also make portable games, but they have to be approved by Microsoft and published through THQ. If you notice, Microsoft has also published its own franchises on the DS, like Age of Empires, through THQ. In the end, it is simply a very small loophole in Rare's contract, at least until Microsoft comes out with a handheld.

Microsoft wants Sony crushed because Nintendo is on about "we're not competing with you guys," so they figured that aiding Nintendo in the handheld market would help crush the PSP.

I know your the biggest Nintendo Fanboy ever but this is one stupid theory. How is it stupid? All three companies are competing with each other. They're not teaming up, they're not allies. I seriously doubt Viva Pinata is taking down the PSP. rolleyes
Sheik026's post made the most sense.
