The best pool within Ilahle's general range from the family den was one of the main Firekin water sources. It had reasonably lush scrub compared to the rest of the land the black cub had explored so far...and it was deep enough the adults didn't get too mad if you took a quick dip to cool off. Heaven on such a hot day! But she was done for now, she was actually too cool and hungry.
Shaking each paw in turn delicately Iahle left the waterhole. A flick of her tail sent a spray of drops away...and she sat down in the sun to warm up again and dry off.

Intuthu was a little bored and had decided to play in the water. He liked to mess about in it sometimes so it was something of a surprise when he saw his sister there. The complete opposite to him, he was white with black and red markings and she was black with their fathers back markings and mothers eye markings.
"Ilahle!" He could never be bothered to call her by her whole name it was so long and such a mouthful! He was far too lazy to call her by her whole name. He bounded over happily with a large cub like smile on his face. Even firekin cubs could be playful!

Kayuapi was nearby the pool's side as the other cubs had approached it. Though, Api blended in quite well with the sandy bank, so it was hard to notice her. Grinning, she slanted her eyes and then followed the others as they left the water hole. Api tailed the little cubs until they sat down in the sun's light. A glare was in her eyes, as she looked to the sky. Why did it have to be so hot out today! She grumbled, and then approached the other one.
"Who're you? ... taking a bath around my water?" She made out a little cub growl, as she stood towering over the little lioness cub.

"Ithuthu!" She smiled, happy to see her beloved brother, of whom she was so proud. She was proud of all her brothers. Ilahle didn't register the other cub until she was standing near her and had been about to get to her paws...which she did as soon as she took in the other cubs stance, attitude and looks.
"It's the Pride's water and you shouldn't speak to us like that." Ilahle snarled her best snarl, and being moons old now, it was pretty good. With Kayuapi's colouring she assumed she was a slave. She stood tall and her tail lashed. With that she turned to her brother.
"Where've you been Ithu, was looking for you earlier."

Intuthu snarled at the assumed slave. "Learn to hold your tongue." He snapped at the cub just before his sister spoke. Stupid slaves. Then again that other slave he had met she was nice though silly, he still didn't understand why she was moving those big rocks but then he didn't really care either.
"I have been hunting, or trying to. Didn't expect to see you here though sis!" He gave her a small nuzzle, after all she was his sister and being a brother meant he had to be affectionate to her! After all it didn't matter in front of the slave. He had no reason to believe the strange female wasn't a slave she looked like the slave he had met just a darker brown.

"I'll claim it my water as I please!" She stuck her tounge out at the little girl. "Anyways, you can't tell me what to do ..." She snarled and turned to the other cub, baring what little teeth she had. "Hold my tounge?" She hissed and backed up.
"Oh ... how cute, siblings." She spat on the ground. "I could care less for siblings, I have none."

The 'little' girl was not amused, but besides one ear flicking the brown cubs way, she didn't let it show. She returned her brothers affection and sat down once more. Only then did she turn her brown eyes on the stranger cub again. If it had been nice, she may have been, out of sympathy if nothing else. But it's attitude and misleading coat colour weren't helping.
"How sad for you...you're delusional about the extent of your own powers and a loner. Why don't you just run along back to your owner cub. We have no need of you here."

"You want us to believe that you have any right over anything here? You poor creature, you must have fallen on your head at birth. We aren't blind, it doesn't take a genius to notice you have no claim at all to any of these lands but to the scars that will cover your back." Intuthu was being unusually cruel but then he had his sister to impress! He wasn't going to act like a softie around a family member, imagine what would happen to him if his mother found out. He hated being punished!
The comment about siblings did make Intuthu laugh. He adored his brothers and his sister. Each one of them was very different and it meant he always had friends and someone to play with and do normal cub-like things with. The fact that this slave was saying she couldn't care for them made him laugh because surely being a slave would mean she would want someone? She was one really stupid slave. Whoever owned her should train her a bit more.

Kayuapi scowled at the mention of an owner. "Why would I need an owner for? ... ... my mother and father might be crazy, but even they keep their business out of those that are slaves. If anyone has fallen on their head, its obviously you two morons." How dare they think so low of her! She wasn't going to take that talk!
"The only scars i'll have in my lifetime is wasting my time on brainless cubs like you!" She turned to face the dunes, angered with the duo.

"You just keep telling yourself that..." And still the rude one didn't go away! Why was it so rude anyway? Ilahle had treated the big male slave with respect and wouldn't have ever been this dismissive of him for all he was a slave. This one however had stormed up all indignant.
"No owner? If you're not a slave then what are you?" Ilahle remembered the wild rogue whose life she had saved. Back then she hadn't know much about slaves but this one was younger and smaller than them and there were two of them. She was in the middle of their lands. Maybe they could claim her as their own...
But then she was so rude and annoying maybe not~

Intuthu laughed when his sister said about her not being a slave.
"Ilahle she has to be a slave, look at her! She doesn't resemble our pride in the slightest and even if she was born here Kimeti would kick her out. She is a disgrace." He basically spat towards the cub as he spoke, even if she was turning to walk away.
"She is a slave and if not she is some sort of disgusting creature that shouldn't exist here." Maybe he had listened to a couple of his mothers teachings. He knew she mentioned something about how the firey colours of the pride were so important and this female didn't carry them. No red at all.

"What am I? ... why, I am of the blood, just like you two are. Just because I do not share the same blood red pelt as my parents, does not mean i'm a disgrace! Anyways, why would Great Uncle Kimeti want to kick me out? ... ... I could be of good use in the future, unlike you two." She turned around and growled once more as the male cub spat at her.
"... ... being white is nothing to be proud of, pal."

"I suppose black ins't either?" She raised and eyebrow, her rage of the cool sort. Ilahle had asked older Firekin about pelt colours before because she knew her black father and white mother weren't the more traditional red of the Firekin, and that she and her siblings followed suit - some with little or no red. And she knew the acceptable colours off by heart.
"...wow. You have quite odd ideas, don't you?"

Intuthu was somewhat amused.
"White, black and oh don't forget the red. At least it's not brown like the dirt we stand on." He smirked a little. Great uncle Kimeti? Interesting.
"Great Uncle Kimeti kicked his own son out the pride do you really think he would allow you to stay when your a disgrace to the pride. Ilahle is right you have odd ideas." His mother had told him all about the heir being kicked out so he saw no reason why Kimeti would keep a niece in that wasn't even a direct niece but further down the blood line. This girl hadn't been taught well, or maybe like Intuthu had very good selective hearing.

"Theres nothing wrong with the dirt we stand on. And anyways, I have black on me, too. Does that make you two a disgrace, also? You also have black. Personally, pelt colours don't matter to me, but if you want to shun mine, then i'll gladly leave. I have no intentions of mingling with Firekins who cannot even be nice to their own Kin. Calling me a slave was beyond that. ... So, why am I being mean? Simply to defend my blood." She closed her eyes and tilted her head towards the ground.
Just because she was one of the only pure Firekin with a brown pelt didn't mean that had to make fun of it. She folded her ears back and looked away. It seemed she could never convince 'normal' Firekin that she was just as good as them ...
