Why did the jungle seem so...empty? It was as if even the crickets and birds had left the green maze for a better land that she was unaware of. Setsumi peeked behind her, one brow raised in thought. It was indeed the same jungle as she had remembered. But time away had made them both age. They had both survived without the other. "Hmm." She twisted her neck back forward, ears tilted high as she glanced at the sandy waves. Just beyond the low grass. True, she was enjoying her vacation. But there were still so many faces to consider in her mind's eye.

A shadow passed overhead, riding the wind currents as he soared through the air. Long crest feathers waving in the wind while a pair of wings occasionally beat to keep him aloft. Darkfeather was still hanging around, and was again searching for some lunch. A glimpse of color caught his eye, and he thought he caught a familiar scent upon the updrafts. Hm.
A few wing beats more and he flew easily over the grassy field, keen eyes watching everything below. Suddenly he dove, clawed paws reaching out and snatching a small rabbit. Its squeals easily heard as it was carried off by the winged predator.

And it was that mind's eye that was a terrible distraction. She hadn't even noticed the large shadow, before the grey form was swooping into her vision. Well, she had seen many a winged kitsus. But only one with that trail of head feathers.
Setsumi made to stand, slow and relaxed. And here she had thought he was miles away. Maybe he had returned for his fish? >__> Her paws had just reached the low grass, removing herself from the shade of the trees, when she heard the sound. That horrible screeching as Darkfeather made his kill. No point in following after, his glide was too fast for her pace. Perhaps he was just flitting through for another meal. The femme sat back down, an unnatural spectrum of colors on the yellow-green grass.

Busy with his rabbit, Darkfeather made a slow circle around the area. The cries from the rabbit soon ceasing as he killed it. Then his attention went to what he had notice before... or rather, whom. Setsumi's pelt was easily seen from above, and it wasn't long before he made his decent.
"So... you're still here" he stated as he alighted upon the ground with rabbit set down beside him. Whether there was any good or bad feelings from their previous encounter, he didn't really let on. His voice and demeanor were rather neutral, but the fact that he was actually there and speaking to Setsumi had to count for something.

Even as the distance increased, the sound was still wailing in the air. Thankfully, it was gone by the time Dark circled back around. Circled back? Setsumi lifted her chin while tilting her head to be sure. Yep, he was lowering toward the grass.
She hesitated, not knowing quite what to say to that. "So I am." Then she furrowed her eyes down at the maimed rabbit. "I know of hunting and such, but couldn't you have made the kill quick?" Tails wrapped around her, not knowing why that little detail had been such a bother.

A brow was lifted at Setsumi, "Birds don't often make quick kills... call it an old habit." Looking down at the rabbit, DF crinkled his nose a bit before he tore into the little mammal. The way he ate it was a bit awkward, but it was eaten nonetheless. A rabbit didn't have much flesh so it was finished in little time before the carcass tossed aside.
"Feh.. I prefer fish, anyway." He snorted a bit and ruffled his wings, before looking back at Setsumi.

An old habit? Did he mean that for birds in general, or himself? Just another question about his character that she wouldn't bother speaking aloud. Her gaze was turned as he ate, not at all interested in watching the little bloody mess. Front arms stretched out till she rested on her stomach. At least out here, the sun could actually reach your form and warm it. Unlike the moist and humid jungle.
Oh, fish. "Hmm, yes. You had forgotten your fish last time." And she didn't let it go to waste. But if he was looking for more, he knew were to go. "You must have a wide territory, to swoop by this frequently?"

He smirked somewhat amusedly, "I didn't forget it" he replied, and left it at that. There were plenty fish in the rivers and oceans, one wasn't of great consequence.
An ear twitched unconsciously at her next question. "Territory? I don't really have one. I just go where ever I want. The wild life has never really suited me, but there really is no other choice." Don't get him wrong.. he could be quite territorial... but he really had no territory to defend. He had yet to settle down some where.

Her eyes drifted back to Dark, quizzically. Oh? What an unexpected gesture. A breeze drifted by and Setsumi rolled with it to her side, unbothered by the slightly dry grass. Hmm, one cloud out today. A paw stretched out lazily to try and blot it from her view.
"No territory? I had thought that was a bird thing too." Green eyes blinked, and she glanced at him upside down. "Oh? But don't solitary and wild life blend together, in the end?" Did he have clear cut definitions for both lifestyles?

"It is a bird thing..." he agreed, "But I suppose the solitary life has never really suited me either... atleast not completely." Brows furrowed and red eyes looked towards the horizon, not really focusing on anything in particular. Atleast he was talking a bit more freely, but still... there were many things left unsaid.
A side glance was then given to Setsumi. "What about you? Do you have a territory? Do you like to live alone?"

The cloud was too big, but she kept her paw up anyways, just glancing over the pelt details there. Not wild living, and not solitary either. "Hmm, sounds more like you're left in domestic and social." But life was too creative to guess it down to groupings.
She whispered a hum at the question, her maw twitching at the end. "What would I need a territory for? I suppose I haven't mentioned before, I'm just a roamer." Even if they were tense questions, at least he was speaking. Better than awkward silence. "As to the other, I'm not sure. Preferably, I suppose."

"Heh..." Well he certainly wouldn't consider himself social... so perhaps domestic would be the word... who knows. He was what he was. "I guess we have something in common then. Imagine that." The crested kitsu smirking faintly. Darkfeather stretched his forelimbs and yawned boredly.
There was silence for a few moments before his curiousity got the better of him. "So... do you have a family?" Considering she was out here by herself, he assumed she didn't have any ties to anyone... but he could be wrong.

"Imagine that." She smirked at the idea. Who knows? Maybe she was even that stoic way back when. Guess some of Ronan rubbed off on her, enough to make her speak out. Yawns are contagious, and as much as she resisted, she too followed the empty action.
What? Her eyes had widened, staring at the pale blue sky. He was so reluctant beforehand to even reply to such topics. And now he was asking them? Guess she deserved that. "I have...three kids. But they're all grown now." If not in body, surely in mind. She didn't bother asking him, that'd just be repeating the last encounter.

"Ah... I should have guessed. Then you must have a mate somewhere about, then." His tone had flatlined once again, for he really didn't have any family to speak of. Perhaps there was even a note of disappointment in his voice... but surely not.

Damn this...lack of self control on her moods. She rolled back upright and leaned onto her side. Some feathers had decided to pluck some strands of grass up with them. Her face had turned hard at that word, and she shook her head as if water was splashed there. "I don't even speak his name anymore. And I don't care where he is." Probably off frolicing with his sister. Just thinking it made her tails bristle. What an insult...
Setsumi scoffed before making to stand, stretching out her legs. Now she was just plain antsy.
