RuiZhi couldn't stop thinking about it. Not only had it started to invade his dreams, but he found himself starting to jot down notes and sketches on his normal homework. Heru Araquenosse's information had never left him, and after the event in China, it only seemed to make him more aware of his desire to bring it to fruitation; the ability to mix science and magic was going to drive the poor young doctor in training quite mad.

It was this madness that had brought him to the door of the only person he felt he could turn to. RuiZhi stared at the door with Irame's name embossed on a plaque, feeling his heart beating strongly in his neck and ears. He wasn't afraid, not in the least; it was excitement that was making his palms sweat and his breath short. Doing a quick breathing routine to calm himself, he carefully knocked on the door, turning the knob enough to open the door a crack.

Quietly, he called through the crack, not opening the door completely in fear of being rude but making sure he was heard. "Professor Irame? It's RuiZhi...I don't mean to intrude."

(Irame the spartan professor)
Irame turned her head towards the door as she heard a student at it. She had been watering Bob, upset to find that it was again missing leaves, but that could wait. (She had already gotten all her other chores done.) She put the watering can down behind one of the pots of lilies and turned around the entire way.

“Oh, RuiZhi, you are not intruding at all, penneth. Please come in.” She said with a smile and a gesture towards one of the chairs. “Would you like something to eat? I think that I still have some cookies left.”

(Spartan? For Rui'z madness? THIS IS SHINKAMI!)
The boy opened the door to let himself in, smiling thankfully at the pretty elven woman. Carefully shutting the door behind himself and moving to the offered chair, RuiZhi blushed a little, "O-oh, that sounds nice. Thank you." His curious brown eyes took in a quick sweeping glance of the office, lingering only on 'Bob' before settling upon the Professor. There was much he wanted to say, but he had to tread lightly, for if Irame felt the same as Dante...he would only be wasting her time. Even so, he had to try!

Taking a seat and brushing out his robe, he started tenatively. "I...I was really curious about the magic you used in China." He adjusted his glasses nervously, lowering his gaze for a moment. "It was...it was blood, your medium, wasn't it?" RuiZhi stared at his hands for a little while before lifting his brown gaze back to Irame, inwardly wondering if he had overstepped his boundaries. He hadn't been afraid of the magic used; quite the opposite, it had intruiged him to no end. He hoped he didn't seem too eager!

(This is COLLEGE/MADNESS! Silly joke with my roommate.)

Irame had nodded and started to look for the cookies when he seemed to want some. She just hoped that Javelin hadn’t gotten a hold of them and given them away… or eaten them.. Or did what ever it was that she did with them. Irame was never quite sure. Sadly there were a few gone, along with a note from Javelin, and so all Irame had were chocolate chip. She pulled them out as RuiZhi asked about her magic, and then just set them on the table.

She didn’t often get asked about it, more often she was asked to hide it, so this as was a little strange. She looked the boy over once, then nodded slowly.

“It was my blood. I hope that I did not offend you or injure you in any way with it RuiZhi. I would be most upset if I did, for that was certainly not my intention. I would not have used it if I had not thought that it was necessary.” She said handing him the plate and averting her eyes. She was, after all, supposed to be apologizing.

(Hey, it IS one in the same. XD)
RuiZhi was just about to accept a cookie when Irame apologized. The boy was stunned, hand frozen in midair, blinking at the teacher as if she had just grown a second head. "I...what?" He blinked a few more times before grasping the plate, putting it on his lap so he could concentrate on the Professor. He was sorely confused as to what she was saying. "Professor...you didn't offend me at all," he started to say slowly, trying to make sense of what was being said and how to make it right, "in fact, I was really amazed by what you did. Blood is our source of life, it doesn't frighten me, or else I'd be a horrible doctor...and to see it used with magic was really remarkable!"

His tone had taken one of wonder, face earnest in his enthusiasm for how he felt. RuiZhi quickly became embarrassed for it, blinking as he looked down to the cookies on his lap. He picked one up and gave it a careful nibble, offering a warm, "Oh, these are good." Sure, talking about blood and eating cookies wasn't exactly normal, but he didn't want to be rude either; they were tasty.

(A. Yes! It’s true they are the same. B. Javelins cookies… well let’s just say that we know why bob is missing a few leaves.)
“You are… interested?” Irame said, sounding quite amazed herself. She hadn’t expected this at all. Then again, she wasn’t among the elves anymore, so why should what they say hold true any more? “That is a surprising change from what I am used to.” She said quite simply. “Other healers are normally the best about it. Even then, though, they normally just show a passing interest at best.” She shrugged. “I am sure that you would find other types of magic just as remarkable but less… stained.” She said the last word with a bit of contempt. Ever since the demons had been released she had been feeling less and less placation towards the elves and their dislike of her magic and more and more contempt. She shoved it down now, for she had someone here.

“I will tell you what ever you whish to know about blood magic.” She said with a forced smile. “And thank you, about the cookies. Javelin and I sometimes cook.”

(Oh noes. Is Rui gonna get goofy? XD)
The boy nodded almost too quickly at her question, looking a little sheepish. He listened intently as she talked, not missing the feeling behind her words, understanding that people would be afraid of it. RuiZhi shook his head a little, explaining, "Magic itself, while interesting, doesn't quite hold my interest. Otherwise I'd be in the other branch. But..." He hesitated a moment, reviewing everything Dante had told him. The elven man wouldn't be upset if he talked to another elf about it, right? Especially since Irame was a blood-magic user herself. If anything, it would lift the burden from having to bother Dante until he had solid results, wouldn't it?

Finding a little comfort in his own thoughts, RuiZhi continued on. "Heru Araquenosse and I talked about clerics. Blood clerics were one of the ones we talked about. I find it to be..." he paused, searching for the English term he wanted, "...quaint." To heal with one's life force, he found that more amazing and fitting than anything else. He would wait to see what she thought about his words before he explained his purpose for bringing it up. The boy wanted to make sure Irame was comfortable, as it would do no good to encroach and unwelcome subject upon a Professor.

(No his cookies were all made by Irame, and are Bobless.)

“Quaint.” Irame smiled as she said the word. “An interesting discription of it, penneth.” She sighed and looked him over once more. “It is too bad that you did not choose magic, I would have liked to have had you in a class. But it is good that you do what you whish to, nothing good comes out of forcing yourself into something. (coughRancough)

“But listen to me babble, and I am sure that it does not even make much sense. You said that Dante was talking about clerics? That is not a normal past time for him, not since our brother became one and stitched him up with yarn, anyway. Was it about something important? Were you hurt?”

(Thank goodness. No Bob this time. X3)
"Actually..." RuiZhi hesitated again. It might not be such a good idea to spread his belief to the teachers, but Irame would understand, he felt. "...I wanted to incorporate magic into my studies. I don't think it's right that half of my resources are unavailable because I chose Science." His teachings were starting to show, as his English was greatly improving with each conversation he had, his desires becoming stronger. "Back in China...if only I had a small bit of magic, I could have helped more. All I had were the tools I brought, and what if I didn't have them? There's too much left to chance, and that's not acceptable as a doctor."

The boy ended his tirade and coughed, embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to spout that off. It's just hard to keep it to myself." He mulled over her other questions, nodding sullenly. "I asked him. He told me the different types of clerics, and that his..." RuiZhi blinked and jerked his head up suddenly, staring at Irame in surprise. "Heru Araquenosse...are you...? Are you his blood cleric sister?" He was almost positive he'd heard the Professor say 'our brother,' and he supposed that would explain quite a bit. The excitement started to take over his boyish features.

"Wow, I never would have guessed!" RuiZhi seemed pleased with his discovery, despite the fact that Irame had neither confirmed nor denied his question. "Heru Araquenosse is a great man. He's been very encouraging, and I would like to make him proud." Clearing his throat, kicking his feet a little shyly, he fell back on the basis of his being here, "Y-yes, I would have liked to have studied magic for medical purposes, but I needed what the Science branch had for me. I don't think I can take both at the same time." His excitement simmered to his blushing smile, as though the boy was speaking of a scraped knee rather than such an encompassing idea.

Yes, Rui is safe for now)

“I do not think that you have anything to be sorry for.” Irame replied. “I think that that’s a fine idea. I can not think of any reason why you would not be able to use everything that the school has to offer. That is what it is here for, after all. I think that it would be very interesting to see someone actually combine the two fields. I know I cannot, though Dante might be able to, for he understands technology better than I.” Irame might have mentioned the time that she had gotten herself stuck in an elevator for an hour but she was stopped, and surprised, by the students excitement over her relation. Sure she and Dante hadn’t exactly broadcasted that they were related, but it wasn’t exactly secret either. The last name on the door probably threw quite a few people off though, so it wasn’t surprising that RuiZhi hadn’t known.

“Yes Dante is my eldest brother and the eldest child in our family. Although I am not sure if he wants everyone to know so I suppose that it should just be our secret for now?” She said, smiling and putting a finger to her lips.

“But studying anything to do with healing, be it technological or magical, is a noble goal. And, sadly, I do not think that you are allowed to take both courses at once. That does not mean that someone cannot help you. I cannot speak for Dante, but I would have no qualm helping you when ever you would require it.”

"I wont say anything," the small boy promised solemnly, "for your sake, and his." RuiZhi respected the two elven Professors greatly, and could not conceive talking about their personal lives to anyone. It was none of their business, and the knowledge would not leave the room.

He looked a little defeated as Irame said he couldn't walk both paths. It was difficult, knowing that so much was available to him but he was only allowed one portion of it. The boy was near frustrated with how limited he was in his studies, until Irame offered to help him. RuiZhi turned his light brown eyes to look into the mismatched orbs of the Professor, thoughtful. Could he say what he wanted to? No...not quite. It wasn't that he didn't trust Irame, it was more like he gave Dante his word; the boy was very loyal to the promises he gave.

After a little more silence, he pulled together his thoughts enough to reply. "I have a goal," he said quietly, continuing to look the teacher in the eye with the upmost respect, "but I don't think I can acheive it without incorporating magic. What can I do, Professor? What do you think I can do?" RuiZhi tried to keep the pleading out of his voice, but some leaked through anyway. He wasn't desperate, but he was getting close; he sorely wanted to learn, to know, to make the most of this chance he had been given. He knew not anyone could make it into the school, and he wanted to leave it with all the knowledge and experience he could.

Irame felt a pang of sadness as the boys looked went from happy to crestfallen. She hadn’t meant to make him sad or say that he couldn’t do magic period. She just didn’t know if it was allowed. She certainly didn’t think that it was allowed at the same time. Maybe if he went throught the school twice he could major in two different things? That probably wouldn’t be a problem.

“RuiZhi, maybe if you went through the school twice? You could go through for two different things. I just do not think that you would be able to go through for both magic and science at the same time. We want you to excel at something, not be simply okay at two.” She said while he was quiet. She really didn’t want to make him feel bad. She waited for him to say something and when he finally spoke she was surprised, but smiled.

“RuiZhi I think that you can do what ever you want to. There is nothing that I know of that says that you may not use magic and if you are here then you are obviously very smart and very ambitious. If you want to do this project then I think that you will be able to do it.”

RuiZhi nodded a little. It was the only option he had come up with himself, although Dante hadn't been so certain. The boy felt as though his hands were tied, but outwardly, he smiled at Irame. "I thought so too." To go through school again...graduating the school the first time could take so many years, how old would he be if he went through twice? Especially with something like magic? No...perhaps he would have to give up his dream. To go through twice was like learning a language one way, and then finding you were doing it wrong all along, and having to relearn it. He wasn't sure he could do it, not alone.

"Thank you." He didn't want to think about it further; he would continue on to his purpose here, although it seemed rather moot at the moment. "J-just another quick question, and I'll be on my way, if that's okay." RuiZhi paused, then asked, "How does your blood magic work? I mean, is it because it's your blood and you are magical, or is it magic that makes it special?" That would help in his studies, at least.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 06, 2007 9:15 pm

(Be on the look out, yar! Inside jokes ahead)

Once again RuiZhi looked sad and Irame couldn’t help but feel as if she was to blame for it. True going through the school twice was the only technical way to learn magic and technology, but it couldn’t really be the only way. Just like her bother had said he could have stitched Dante up with green yarn, but he had decided on pink; there was more than one way to do almost everything. Before she really thought of what she wanted to say RuiZhi asked her something more about her blood magic. Strange. He really seemed to want to know so much about that…

“I would have to say that magic simply makes my blood special. My blood can be use by other blood clerics as long as they are stronger than I am and I could still do other healings if I could not use my blood.” She licked her lips and sat up a little straighter, trying to make herself not look so short. “Speaking of healing spells, as far as I know, it is not against the rules for me to teach you magic. You would not be a magic student but I should still be able to teach you, if you would like me to.”

(*blank stare* Apparently! XD)

So blood really was the medium, and magic the source; that made more sense, and RuiZhi was content with her answer. The next words out of Irame's mouth made the boy's eyes impossibly wide, his glasses all but falling off his nose as he tried not to leap out of his seat. "R-really? You...it's...it's okay? You'd do that? Really?" He started to laugh, embarrassed that he couldn't find anything else to say; he was completely stunned, elated, and baffled all at once.

"I...wow!" His glee was hard to keep contained, but he did the best he could, covering his mouth with his sleeved hands and trying to stiffle his mirth. When he felt he could talk without going into more fits of laughter, he said in a wavering voice, "Would that really be okay? That would...gosh, Professor, that'd be wonderful! Really, really amazing! I'd love to try! But I wont do it in the school, just here, I don't want to show off, just learn, and...wow!" RuiZhi grinned like a thirteen year old boy rather than the calm and collected person he'd made himself to be, so very excited that someone understood. "Thank you Professor, so much!"
