Although, I would have liked to know more about how Nick became a hunter... or didn't catch it, they never explained whether he joined after he had bitten or what.
Yeah, they explained it. He was bitten and got sick, he went to a hospital and one of the orderlies saw him, knew what was going on and educated him about the cocktail and such. Nick got his own stash of cocktail and went to work hunting....

The film is average. There is only one "vampires in desert senario" film that I like, and that is Near Dark.
Hell yeah, props for actually knowing about Near Dark.
"Hey Jesse, there's something I've been meaning to ask you..."
"Yeah? What's that"
"How old are you?"
"Let me put it to you this way, I fought for the south."
"The south?"
"We lost....."
That movie is filled with so many great moments......

You didn't like John Carpenter's Vampires?
The movie was good, but if you liked that, check out Steakley's novel "Vampire$" which Vampires was based on. Same elements, but Crow doesn't work for the Church, he kills Vampires for a profit. And he was a hell of a lot meaner in the book.
