Hello, I was wondring if anyone has seen this vampires in desert scenerio of a film. I honestly found it to be a good movie. To me it seemed like the movie Joyride with vampires, or Joyride was The Forsaken without vampires and mad crazed truck driver. Anyways, The plot was simple but good. Although, I would have liked to know more about how Nick became a hunter... or didn't catch it, they never explained whether he joined after he had bitten or what.

But anyways, it went a little further than most vampire films that I've seen. It followed the journey of these this guy's trip to Miami and later houston and turned out to be much more than what he bargained for. He soon picks up a mysterious hitchhiker bum and agrees to take him to houston if he pays for gas. One night while they're eating, a girl stares at our main character Sean, and suddenly vanishes. He goes outside to find the girl moving around twitchingly and being denied a ride on the bus. Nick, the hitchhiker comes out and knows whats happening to her, they take her in their hotel room and Nick shoots her with a sedative. While doing this however, Sean is bitten by the girl and passes out.

The next morning he awakes and Nick is in the room sitting down with pistol and starts to freak out Sean. He then explains, he's been bitten and needs to take some drugs to stop himself from turning. Last night, Nick heard some disturbances and they so happened to be vampires. So he takes the skeptical Sean, over to the room across the parking lot. They open the trunk and a vampire pops out and is later burned by the sunlight. From there it's a gritty chase from some wicked vampires, and one with a taste for vengence against his unfinished business with the girl.

The blood was few but great, the plot was actually more thought out than average, and the film was fun. I thought it to be amoung the ranks of good vamp flicks and actually should be watched by a fan. Heh, well that's my opinion anyways.

The film is average. There is only one "vampires in desert senario" film that I like, and that is Near Dark.

You didn't like John Carpenter's Vampires? The first one that is... I honestly think that's my favorite vampire horror film out of any status.

Vampires was off to a good start, but after a while is started to get cheesy and dull, which is just a shame because I am a fan of Carpenter, James Woods, and Sheryl Lee. Can't blame Carpenter for trying to bend the vampire archetype though.

Yeah, they explained it. He was bitten and got sick, he went to a hospital and one of the orderlies saw him, knew what was going on and educated him about the cocktail and such. Nick got his own stash of cocktail and went to work hunting....

Hell yeah, props for actually knowing about Near Dark.

"Hey Jesse, there's something I've been meaning to ask you..."

"Yeah? What's that"

"How old are you?"

"Let me put it to you this way, I fought for the south."

"The south?"

"We lost....."

That movie is filled with so many great moments......

The movie was good, but if you liked that, check out Steakley's novel "Vampire$" which Vampires was based on. Same elements, but Crow doesn't work for the Church, he kills Vampires for a profit. And he was a hell of a lot meaner in the book.
