Wyrsa was grazing quietly in the darkened forest. The moonlight shone fitfully through breaks in the canopy far above, but did nothing to illuminate the ground or the mare. The most it did was glint dully off of her scale-like hide.
That suited the Soquili just fine. She didn't need light, didn't need company...well, maybe some company could be okay. As long as it was the right kind of company. Wyrsa wasn't certain she wanted to meet another full-fledged Kalona so soon...Tloc had been a bit overwhelming.
Ah well. The grass was sweet, the dark was comforting, all was well.

Torment shook her head, strands of maroon sailing down onto the ground below. She had just woken up from a long, leisurely nap in a nearby cavern in the forest, and she was feeling quite bored already. Should she go find herself some dinner, or perhaps search out her girlish brother and tease him some more?
Standing up, she stretched out her long striped legs and let out another yawn. Then night was still young, and there were plenty of opportunities to have some fun and get things done.

A flash of muted pink and another of white. Wyrsa looked up from her meal as she registered the unexpected and unnatural colors. Here, the expected colors were green, dark green, black, brown, and bits of white and yellow. Certainly not pink.
Then she saw the dim outline of the rest of the Soquili. It was strange, she thought, how the other's wings and mane and tail and white markings stood out so well, while the rest of her faded into the darkness. The conundrum was enough to entice Wyrsa nearer, though she didn't say anything yet.
Her movement was shown only by the the movement of patches of moonlight over her hide as its reflections altered and shifted.

Unaware of the presence now standing only a small distance away from her, Torment lazily took her time roaming around the forest, her mind mulling over her options. She wasn't necessarily very hungry, so hunting was out, at least for now. Taint always seemed to aggravate her more than she took enjoyment out of teasing him, so perhaps she should avoid him for now as well. She certainly would be staying out of the way of Tarnish and her Father. Definitely two beings she wasn't up for crossing paths with.
Groggily, she stumbled forward and into a small clearing. Her gray eyes widened, however, as a shadowy figure appeared seemingly out of nowhere, save for two golden eyes staring back at her.
"Now what have we here?" she muttered, peering to get a closer look at the beast.

It certainly took her long enough to notice me, Wyrsa noted dispassionately. Her inner faith, hero-worship even, and her encounter with Tloc had convinced her that a Kalona would've noticed her presence much sooner.
Therefore this mare, for Wyrsa was now close enough to be certain of that, was not a Kalona. A pity in her book.
"Nice night, hmm?" she greeted the other Soquili in a cool, disinterested tone, flicking her tail almost boredly.

The voice was that of a horse's, and gray eyes met with gold ones once again.
"It would seemingly be one, if I took the time to care about it," she snorted back, her defenses up. From the shadowy outline, it didn't appear to be anything more than just a simple mare... but rumor had it that even her own father had been tricked by a skinwalker using her mare appearance as a disguise. Had the skinwalker now come for her too?
"Who are you?" she finally asked, determined to get to the bottom of the subject right away.

She was intrigued by the mare's response. Perhaps not a Kalona, but not one to reject out of hand. She seemed...nervous. Wyrsa wondered why, then decided it only mattered if the stranger Soquili chose to share that with her.
"Wyrsa," she replied, slightly hissing the name. "And you?" There was still no emotion or interest showing in her voice, and the eerie yellow eyes didn't move from the gray.

"Torment." came back the short reply. The name of Wrysa didn't exactly ring any bells, so she relaxed, once again feeling lax. She was quite sure whatever it was that had attacked her father had had the word 'demon' somewhere in the name, and demon was certainly not in the name Wyrsa! "As in... one who torments others."
An eyebrow rose and she stepped forward. Unlike her brother Taint, it was hard to hide her kalona genes, thanks to her cloven hooves and large black horns. Her striped horn and feathery wings spoke of sweetness, though they had never been used for such deeds.

Only now did Wyrsa note the large black horns. The dark of the night beneath the trees had hidden the black horns in its shadow. They were an interesting attribute. The mare began to wonder if they indicated Kalona blood. If so...perhaps she had misjudged this stranger.
"One who torments others..." she repeated softly, only the slightest curiosity coloring her tone. "An unusual name in some circles," Wyrsa commented, leaving the question unasked.

Gray eyes blinked, and the mutant mare smiled, unable to resist showing her fangs off as well. "Well, my two brothers were named similarly, Tarnish and Taint. Our Father apparently found amusement in naming us for certain things, though I don't think I could blame him, looking back on it now."
Taking another step forward, she pawed one hot pink hoof against the ground below, debating in her mind what was going to happen with this mare. Should she continue talking? Make her dinner? Or just continue walking on? Curiosity got the better of her, however, and her question seemed to echo the mare's. "And yourself? How does one come up with such a name as 'Wyrsa'?"

Her father must be a Kalona, the mare realized. But she wasn't one to be intimidated like that! Wyrsa hissed slightly, showing her own tiny fangs to the other. "He must've thought more of his amusement than for you," she replied quietly.
Wyrsa stood her ground as Torment came towards her. She would not give way or give in to this stranger. But, she would be polite. For the moment. "It is my name," she stated simply, in the same flat tones she'd used all this night. "I do not know or care it's origin, just as I do not know or care about the parents I suppose I must have had."
It was something the mare pondered on occassion, who her parents were, where she had come from, the origin of her name. But it was all the past, and thus had little bearing on the future. It could only affect the present, and then only if she allowed it to.

"My Father thinks only of himself," Torment said quietly, knowing it was the honest truth. Yes, he did concentrate on things such as her loathsome mother and training his three offspring, but everything was focused, everything revolved around him in the end. And that, she knew, would never change.
"What's a name without a meaning?" She questioned, one eyebrow raised. It was obvious enough that this mare lacked the fear others showed towards her, but then again with feathery wings like Torment had... she dealt with that on occasion. She couldn't even begin to wonder how Taint or her Mother dealt with life, being so... frilly and happy looking. "So... you've never met your parents before?"

"An interesting way to raise children," was Wyrsa's only comment. She herself was much like Torment's father, though more because she had no one but herself in her life.
If a horse could shrug, Wyrsa would have. She didn't particularly care what her name meant or if it meant anything at all. "A name is a name, regardless of meaning," she stated again. At the second question though, the mare's attention was sharply caught, and her gaze sharpened on the gray eyes. "Never," she said calmly. "I only assume such creatures exist because such is the way of life. I have never had even a hint otherwise that I posses such things as parents." She stopped talking abruptly. It was the most she'd ever said at once and aloud. Talking wasn't something she did too much. Wyrsa preferred the silence of her thoughts much more.

"Well, you're lucky!" Torment huffed. There were plenty of days where she wished she hadn't known her family, though bound to them she was. There wasn't a week that went by that she didn't run into one or more of them. "I'd give anything to get rid of the one I have. Families are nothing but a pain in the a**, no matter what anyone says."
She snorted, frustrated now with the thought of her bloodline.
"So," she continued, trying to change the subject, "Why are you out here in the first place? Don't you realize there are creatures out here that'd be more than happy to eat you at this time of night, myself included?!"

"I don't particularly care much one way or the other," Wyrsa said once more. She didn't have a family, thus she didn't have to care. Such was her nature that she didn't wish to care either.
This mare was interesting indeed, she decided, as Torment changed the subject. She hadn't begun the conversation by trying to intimidate Wyrsa, nor had she done much throughout, unlike Tloc. Yes, she could assume a superior position, thanks to her wings, but those would do her precious little good in the forest, unless if she came upon a clearing. Even then Wyrsa would only have to remain beneath the tree to keep out of her way.
"My reasons are my own," she replied shortly. "And I have seldom encountered anyone in the dark of night, let alone one who meant me harm."
