-Introduction

It was given many names as the ages went by: ragnarok, apocalypse, among others, or simply, 'the end of the earth'. It was always foretold that one day, such a time would come. It was inevitable, however, people don't change, nor will they ever. In spite of warnings, they let their lives continue on as they always had, with no regard to the consequences they would one day have to face. In a way, they cannot be blamed, for their minds are like those of naive young children; they could never have known how soon their day would come.

Her treasure had been tossed assunder like nothing. Vandalised, abused, disfigured...the Goddess weeped for Her earth, but Her tears were swiftly replaced by resentment, and anger towards those who She had entrusted with such a precious gift. I will not allow such a treachery... Her wrath fell upon the humans who had disrespected Her treasure, and the end of days began. Oceans ran dry, mountains crumbled to the ground, typhoons ravaged cities, earthquakes split continents... Scores of people went mad, slaughtering each other in a desperate attempt to preserve their own lives, but in the end, their efforts were all in vain. By the time thirty nights had passed, the earth was no more than a barren wasteland, unfit for life by any creature. From the ashes, the Goddess took her Treasured Ones; those who, not being human, had respected and preserved her gift to the best of their abilities. She brought them forth from all parts of Her creation; from beneath, the Demons, guardians of the dark times and agents of the shadows. From above, the Angels, sweet upholders of the light, the embodiment of goodness. From the cities and barren places, the Lycans, and the Vampyres, they who followed their own paths in the world, defending their personal ideals. She brought forth the Elves and all manner of Fey creatures, the beautiful ones graced with Her wisdom and longevity. She brought to her all manner of beings who she had graced with the intelligence equal to or greater than that of the humans who she had damned, finishing with her followers, the practitioners of her Craft. She took them into her arms and for them, she created something new, a fresh world in which they would reside as her Chosen ones, free from the fate of the humans who had deserted her.

Eons later, the world named Rehf is flourishing, all memories of the old Earth recalled only as lost myths now, stories told to children at night to ensure their good behaviour and respect. Each of the different species resides their contentedly, tolerating, if not always enjoying, the company of the other kinds. Each species has now developed it's own unique culture and way of life; as such, those of different species don't often intermingle with each other, much preferring to keep to themselves. However, this strained tolerance is quickly diminishing, being replaced by tension and distrust. In the minds of each group, they are in fact the Chosen people of the Goddess, and they alone deserve her grace; to everyone, anyone of the other species is lower, less important. There have already been some minor outbreaks on the borders between territories, minor parties trying to take more land for their own kind. These incidents were small at the beginning, but the threat of more dangerous attacks is becoming more real as these hostile groups grow in number; in their minds, it is their divine right to take the land away, and they are more than willing to fight for it. Aside from the issue of territory, many disputes have now come up is regards to lifestyles and beliefs, political standings, commerce, among a score of other things; the stench of war is heavy on the air, and everyone knows it can't be far off.

Apart from the rising conflicts, another poison is quietly feeding itself to the sanctity of this world. A group of renegades, known to the general public as the crime syndicate Gate, has been forming a sinister plan. After years upon years of researching and learning, they have gained knowledge of the happenings of the ancient past, and of the true power of the Goddess above. Hungry to taste such a power, they have been relentlessly searching for a tool they have heard tell of, a key that is rumoured to be able to open the gateway to the cosmos. And now, after so long, they may finally have found a way to obtain it...

Setup`

Our story takes place in a world very similar to our Earth, with some differences, of course. Unlike the world we know, Rehf is untouched by pollution or the ravages of man; though the occupants use machinery and technology, magick is also a commen adept skill, and they use them together to make their cities and machines safe and friendly towards their home. In order to ensure that this will always be possible, magick is taught to the children both in schools, as well as by the parents themselves. Of course, some are more adept to it than others, whether by natural talent, or simply being able to learn quickly, or a more powerful bloodline.

There are four main categories that the people of this world fall under. These categories are Citizen, Military, Political, and Renegade. Though of course there are hundreds upon thousands of smaller titles people have, everyone can fit into one of the main areas, and it is often used as a way to classify people. Though within a single species, people are usually treated with dignity and respect, a person's area will still often deside their social standing. Citizens are often viewed as the lowest class, with Military higher than them, and Political higher than them both. Renegades are outside of this social standing, as people don't regard them as any of the above, and they themselves also don't usually care what it is people think of them anyways.

While people are generally good-hearted towards those of their own kind, their is a considerable amount of tense hostility between the species. For this reason, those of different kinds rarely live alongside each other. Each town, city, village, or settlement of any sort with almost definately be occupied by one species and one species alone.

Magick`

In Rehf, magick is worked by using the mana (life force) in one's own body to manipulate the mana in the world around you. Many times, in excedingly complicated or tiring spells, companions will let their mana flow into the body of the spellweaver, therefore giving them more power. If a person is skilled enough, they can draw mana from other sources on their own. Everything in the world has mana, even stones and the ground, though if you were trying to cast a spell to summon fire, it would be unwise to borrow mana from a stream, for obvious reasons. Also, some things in this world have minds of their own, and if a person were to try and take away their mana without permission, they may be told otherwise, quite harshly. When drawing mana from another source, one must be careful; if more mana is drawn into the body than it can handle, the person will die. Likewise, if the body runs out of mana completely, the person will also die. For these reasons, magick is not a thing to be toyed with; with it, a careless person can destroy themselves in a moment.

Class Explanation`

In Rehf, people are generally placed into one of four possible main categories; they're either a Citizen, a member of a Military, a Politician, or a Renegade.

A Citizen is anyone who doesn't fall under the category of Militant or Politic, but still operates generally inside the views of normal society. They can be of any career type. They can be law abiders, or criminals, or the kind of people who live off the government and nevermake anything of themselves. A Citizen is basically your average person.

A Militant is, obviously, anyone who is a member of any military organization. They serve the government and it's needs, answering to the Politician's orders and protecting their kind from the threat of the other species. They are the guardians who make sure that everything runs smoothly and as it should.

Politicians run society, creating laws, handling currency, and generally making sure that the world keeps on turning. They are presidents, queens, ministers... any position of high authority. They deal with the relations between other species, and make the big decisions in what will happen.

A Renegade is anyone who doesn't fall under any of the other categories, and is often a member of an organization known as Gate, who fronts as a crime syndicate, but is actually trying to devise a way to steal or harness the Goddess' power. They live outside the laws of society, living as they choose.

Rules`

In addition to the Rules stated by the Guildmaster, I have a few rules that I'm adding specific to this thread.
wahmbulance Follow all ToS. Anyone failing to do so will be banned from this thread. If you don't know what the ToS are, I suggest you go look them up.
wahmbulance Speak in the third person, as if you were writing a story. So, instead of saying, "I walk into the room," you'd say, "S/he walked into the room," get it?
wahmbulance PM all profiles to me, with the subject being "Ragnarok", so that I know you read the rules.
wahmbulance Literacy, please. Use quotations ("") for speaking. No asterisks (*) for actions. And so on, and so forth. Occassional typos and mistakes in grammar will be alright, everyone gets them. But if they get to be too much, you'll be given a warning, then you'll be banned from the thread.
wahmbulance I understand that people get writer's block, but please try and keep posts to (at least) three lines. You need to give people something to work with.
wahmbulance Fighting and romance are allowed and encouraged, but keep things within the ToS, like I said.
wahmbulance No godmodding or auto-hitting. You can only kill a character if you have the user's permission, and I've confirmed it.
wahmbulance Also, write "Goddess" at the top of your PM, just to make sure that you continued reading.
wahmbulance Swearing is permitted, to an extent. Don't get stupid with it, people.
wahmbulance Pictures are allowed for characters, but add some of your own description as well. It's encouraged that you don't use a picture, but instead desribe your character completely. Creativity is good.
wahmbulance These rules are subject to change at any time, so I suggest you check in. If I add a rule, and you didn't know because you didn't bother reading, you'll have to pay the consequences.
wahmbulance An OOC thread will be added, where I'll be gladly taking any suggestions, criticisms, or ideas for how to make this RP better. Also, all full profiles will be posted in this thread, for easier reference.
wahmbulance :NEW: Multiple characters are allowed, but make sure you post in a different colour or style so that we know it's a different charrie.
wahmbulance :NEW: Try and keep post sizes no less than four lines. This is an intermediate after all, and we don't want to get bumped down. I understand writer's block and everything, but if it happens to often we'll have a problem.
wahmbulance Lastly, write "Condemned" at the bottom of your PM, that way I know you read each and every rule.

The girl sat quietly on op of one of the crumbling walls that lined the busy street of the Angels' settlement. The wind was blowing gently, stirring up her pale blonde hair into messy tussles around her delicate features, adding to the general untidyness that always occupied it anyways. Her knees were bare, exposed because of the worn jean shorts she'd chosen to wear today, and hugged up to her chest with her arms wrapped tight around them. Her balance was good, or so it would seem; she was just lucky right now. She was a very clumsy girl, and chances were she'd fall from her position soon enough. She sighed lightly, her sky coloured eyes examining the faces of those people who passed; some looked down at her indifferently, as if she were just another one of them. Others saw her, and their faces hardened, turning cold; they recognized her difference, the oddity in her blood...for that reason, she knew, they resented her. But that was no different... it would be just the same if she were anywhere else.

After a time, she shifted and slid her legs down off the wall, her worn out black boots touching the paved street with a tiny clacking sound, and she pushed off the wall with a little 'hup' sound from the effort. Turning on her heel, she began to head down the street, trying her best to blend in with the crowd by folding her irridescent wings against her small back, trying to hide the shimmering somewhat-feathers from the eyes of those others...their wings soft and feathery as a swan's, very unlike her own. They were soft, but not so feathery, and smooth. What they were made of...it was difficult to tell. Something soft to the touch, but devoid of any true feathers, instead adorned with some strange, shimmering, feather-like covering that caught the light and refracted it in a beautiful manner, much like a precious jewel. When she was young, she'd been so proud of her wings; the lovely reflections they would cast on the walls, the way they sparkled if they caught the light right...she'd loved them. But she'd grown older now, and she'd learned. To be different... it was nothing to be proud of, only something to hide if you wished to live peacefully.

Her thoughts led her walking to a small, neat, single floor building, with dark red brick walls and a brightly painted wooden sign hanging above the door. She pushed open the door without bothering to look at it; she knew this place well enough by now. As the door swung shut behind her, a little bell rang above her head, and the bartender looked up with a bright, toothy smile. "'Ello, Lilith, dear. The usual?" The girl smiled as she hopped onto a barstool, resting forward with her elbows on the bar and her chin resting on her hands. "Yup please, Jake. How's it today?" The young man shugged as he started getting a non-alcoholic drink together behind the bar, cocking a little half-smile at her question. "Same as always. More news about 'em Gates today... or so I heard. You know, bar gossip." The girl nodded as her drink was handed to her and she took a little sip. "Yeah... maybe there's something to it, though, you never know." The man shrugged again, leaning against the bar. "'Haps. Eh, no matter. Buncha thugs is all they is. I could take 'em if I so pleased." She laughed a little bit, shaking her head. "'Course, Jake."

Kento sat on the seat as he rested. Not to long ago he finished making 50 arrowheads, which Edmund was now delivering give Kento time to shine his blade and sharpen it. The day was almost over and that meant that training area was closing soon, too. He wrote a quick note and stuck on the forge as he headed off to train.

A few hours later as the sun began to set, Kento headed back to the shop which also served was also he and Edmund's home. He entered the shop and noticed all the blinds were closed. He quickly felt around for the light switch and turned on the lights. As the lights flooded the room Kento saw that is was a mess and a bloody trail leaded out the back door. Kento quickly ran outside to follow the blood trial.

After 2 miles of jogging and following the trial by the light of the setting sun. It soon lead him graveyard. He entered it slowly, worried of what he might see. What he saw would shock him for the rest of his life. There at the end of the trial was a crudely made gravestone marked with the name Edmund Sirefield. Kento collapses on the dirt and wept till the moon came up. He soon retreated back to the shop, found all the money Edmund was hiding and hid it somewhere he could get it and escape if needed. Than he fell asleep.

Lilith sat for a time in that little tavern, chatting away contentedly with her friend about people, and money, and politics, and all the meaningless nonsense that came to their minds. She liked it here. Unlike in the rest of the town, she was treated as an equal, treated with respect. Though Jake was very much a full-fledged angel, he didn't look down on her for her half-breed lineage, and it was a rather pleasant change of pace for the young girl.

After a couple of hours, she placed her glass down on the polished countertop and hopped down off her stool onto the floor, her pale hair getting tussled a little bit in the process. She flashed her friend a bright smile, turning on her heel with a little wave and a farewell before heading out of the bar and into the newly darkened town. Evening had fallen...she'd stayed later than she'd planned. Out of habit, she reached up and fixed her hair a little bit, though it really didn't make any difference, then turned and began to walk down the street. With a little shiver, she hugged herself, rubbing her arms briskly; she should have remembered to bring a jacket... it wasn't quite fall yet, but the first twinges of the end of summer were beginning to make themselves known, and here she was stuck in a tanktop and shorts. She sighed and quickened her pace a little bit, wanting to get home before it got too dark.

As she walked, she gradually became aware of sounds behind her; they sounded like footsteps, and voices... perhaps, but it was difficult to make out. She glanced around quickly; the streets were basically empty at this time of day, as always, save for the occassional stray alleycat searching for it's next meal. This town had a cerfew... she was now exactly ten minutes late being out. She wasn't very worried...she'd been late before, but never by too long, and so she didn't have to deal with any consequences. And tonight would be no different; her house was only another ten minutes or so away. The sound behind her grew a little louder, and to her, it seemed like closer. She stopped and listened carefully, her wings shivering a little bit as the new moonlight reflected off of the irridescent feathers, casting dancing reflections on the ground. Yes, she could make them out now, definately voices...laughing voices. She turned and looked behind her, and saw, about fifteen or so feet away, a small cluster of three or four angels behind her. They were the source of the noise...she blinked a little bit, suddenly nervous. They were all watching her, their eyes unfocused, their voices rowdy and harsh. When they got just a bit closer, she could already smell the familiar stench of alcohol. They came closer....now they were calling at her, sneering, their words slurred but their intentions very clear. Suddenly frightened, she stepped back for a moment, then turned on her heel and ran, in her panic completely forgetting that her house was nearby and bolting straight past her street. Behind her, she heard shouts as the group began running, and she found that very quickly, they'd overtaken her, one grabbing her by the wrist while another grabbed at her shoulders. They were saying things... with their voices slurred by intoxication and her own mind too clouded by panic, she couldn't make out what exactly those things were. She heard only bits and pieces; half-breed, freak of nature, dumb slut, wretch... they were dragging her along by the collar of her shirt, and she tripped, falling to her knees and skinning them. She cringed as she quickly felt a hot stinging where the skin had torn, but she was given no time to stand; they continued to pull her, one of them occassionally kicking at her, which would rouse a bout of laughter from the rest of the group. Eventually, they stopped, and the one who was dragging her, a well-built angel who looked to be in his early thirties, tosses her forward roughly, causing her to hit the ground hard on her shoulder. More laughter, some slurred threats, someone telling her not to come back...and then a slam. She looked up quickly, and to her dismay say the gates of the town being locked, and the group was stalking off on the other side, congratulating each other loudly. She watched them leave, then stood up quietly, hugging herself tightly. Now this was another town she couldn't come back to... and here, she'd finally found someone who hadn't rejected her. Jake...I'm sorry... she thought as she turned and began making her way dizzily down the path, trying to figure out where she was to go now.

A tumbling of trash can echoed in the distance, strange to hear considering that a curfew was being enforced. Having elven blood and heightened hearing, Kenji was able to identify where the incoherent sounds turned to voices were coming from. After a quick dash down some allies he stopped. The air was thick with the putrid drink of the human race, alcohol, and laughter of those intoxicated by it. An angel stumbled around the ally where her attackers confronted her. He saw them leaving and wished he could have gotten here a minute or two earlier to have had the chance of protecting this person. He leaned over and offered her his hand, "Can you stand?" He glanced at her wings and noticed that they were different than that of angel's, but they were beautiful, sparkling in the moon's radiance. Whatever she may be her injuries have to come first.

She heard a voice, an unfamiliar one….someone from the town, she knew, because no travelers dared to walk this time of night, for fear of attack by some group of people from some other race. Fearful for but a moment, until she heard the tone of words that he spoke, she glanced up, planning to tell them that she was alright, and not to worry, but she stopped once she got a better look at them. They had no wings…they weren’t an angel. In a moment, she was frightened again, and stood up quickly, balancing herself as she stumbled. She clumsily managed found her way back a few steps without falling, then stopped to look the stranger over a little bit better, her hands clenching by her sides. They didn’t seem to be hostile… an elf, she thought, from the looks of it. But what on earth were they doing so close to an angel settlement? That wasn’t safe at all… she was silent for a moment, considering, then decided that she had nothing to fear. After all, the elves and the fey folk were considered one in the same, and half of her blood was fey. That hadn’t made much difference with most angels, but perhaps this would be different. She walked back over to where she’d originally been and bowed silently, her delicate features apologetic. “I’m alright…thank you for being concerned, and I’m sorry for my first reaction.” She straightened up again, her eyes now shining with curiosity, forgetting her soreness for the moment. “Why are you so close to an angel city? It’s sort of unsafe, especially at night, don’t you think?”
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 5:59 pm

Her action was only natural, tensions between races were still quite common and the situation wasn't improving. "An angel settlement? No wonder I got strange looks when I arrived." There was a slight hurried nature about him so as to not get any attention from her attackers. If they turned around and came back it would cause trouble for both of them. Kenji felt that she was lying about being ok, for she had difficulty standing straight. He offered his hand once again, "I know a good doctor in town, specialist in healing magicks, I would help you myself but I am weak in such skills."

A young man stopped to lean silently against the cool surface of the town gates, one hand cupped around a lighter as he lit the cigarette dangling from between his lips. He inhaled deeply, then slowly released a long puff of smoke though his nose. The fallen angel tipped his head backwards to scan the skies. The full moon rode low along the horizon, so it wasn't that he was late. Well, there was the curfew. Perhaps the child gotten trapped indoors.
Ami was supposed to find his new assignment here, but as he gave his surroundings a cursory glance all could see was some half breed and -he scowled with distaste- an elf. Surely not them, he reasoned to himself, and took another drag off the cig. He'd give it another half hour. If the child hadn't shown up by then, he'd move on. He had better things to do than to wait on the likes of motals.
