It was a beautiful afternoon, not nearly as beautiful as himself, of course, but all the same quite gorgeous. The sun was slowly setting over the horizon; the pinks, orange and yellows swirling around the sky with the clouds. It was a peaceful ending to a peaceful day, and Dorian sighed happily, tossing his white curls back. It was a shame that no one was there to share it with him and compliment him on how gorgeous he was standing against the landscape.

A beautiful afternoon, yes... Somewhere out there, perhaps... But not where he had come from. He was rather tired of unpleasantries and had decided early in the day to find something more appealing to his pallate, whatever hungers he had the desire to satiate at the moment. Food would not be on the agenda until his stomach settled and that would not be until he got the foul stench of his father washed from him.
He flew through the sky with incredible ease now that his wings had finally grown to match the size of the rest of his body. He circled for a moment before touching down by a small pond. He tilted his nose to the air, scenting the area momentarily before proceeding into the water. It wouldn't be long until he was clean and fresh once more... And, afterwards, he could let his coat and mane dry out in the warm air of summer's end.

Humming to himself, Dorian continued on with his afternoon walk, silver hooves gently crushing the soft grass beneath them. He was in no hurry to go anywhere, and there was still enough light in the day to find some amusement. Yet, where would he go, and what would he do?
A light breeze blew by and managed to snag a few locks of white hair and pull; Dorian instinctively tossed back his mane to keep it in order. In doing so, his head turned, and a bright pink coloring off in the distance caught his eye.
Tilting his head somewhat, he quickly forgot about the treacherous wind that had attempted to muss his hair, and instead concentrated on attempting to identify the creature swimming in the small pond. It was definitely a bright shade of pink, but their darker hues made up for the very feminine coloring.
Personally, he fancied pink. It went well with teal, in his mind, and anything that would go well with himself, he took a liking too (Naturally!). Shifting his direction, the alicorn quickly made his way towards the pond, intent on presenting his beautiful self to this no doubt gorgeously pink mare.

He emerged from the water slowly, shaking his body off before giving his head a toss that sent damp ringlets falling in a spray of water dropplets down his neck. A patch of honeysuckles was growing not far from the pond and he pushed his nose into it, inhaling the sweet scent deeply. It was different enough from the sickening sweetness that his mother carried... And nothing near the wretched scent of his father. It was what he needed...
Well, one of several things that he needed. He could also use something to eat... Meat, for once. His stomach was craving it even if he had managed to thwart those cravings in other ways for some time. He was determined to be different from them; to be better than them... And yet he was reduced to this. He would have to find something small and bloodied to kill himself or, just as bad, he would have to steal cooked meat from the camp of a two-legger.
How glorious his options were...

As he approached the pond, the mare had already left her watery bath and was currently shoving her no doubt beautiful face into a patch of nearby flowers. Of course, flowers were beautiful in their own way... but those honeysuckles did nothing for her when it came to matching with the dark violet skin tone and pink markings highlighted and dashed across the mare's body. Poor thing probably needed some guidance in the ways of maintaining natural beauty.
Raising his head high, he trotted towards the bush, studying what he could see of her so far. She was of bigger frame than most mares, which Dorian didn't particularly mind; it just meant there was more beauty to her than most mares had to offer with their smaller frames. Her wings were magnificent, bright pink and striped with white and black. He had never seen such regal looking feathers, so beautifully in place, despite the water gently gliding off of them and onto the ground.
Approaching where she stood, Dorian paused in his trot and cleared his throat, hoping to have caught her off guard.
"Beautiful evening, is it not?" His voice called out, hoping to be overheard among the rustle of flowers the mare was causing. "Almost as beautiful as yourself and handsome as myself, I must say."

He flexed his wings, ruffling his feathers slightly before pulling them in against his body. The feathers never took long to try... Unlike his mane and tail. They would be damp for hours without the sun to dry and warm them.
Hearing a voice he stepped back from the flowers, pale pink eyes narrowing slightly before a sly smile curved his mouth. Wonderful... He wouldn't have to hunt far. "Oh, yes... A very beautiful evening. Who, might I ask, is so kind to offer such compliments to one he does not know?"

"Oh, damn it all," Dorian muttered to himself, taking only a short step back out of surprise. He hadn't the slightest thought about checking under the creature's body to ensure that it was indeed a her and not a him, but it was too late for it now.
He's not too shabby looking, actually, Dorian realized, now taking into account the mare he had approached was not a mare, yet an alicorn stallion of some sort. Even as a male, this Soquili did a splendid job of passing off the colors of purple and pink he wore. A bit tangled in the hair department, but he's definitely got some style going for him.
Clearing his throat, he shook his head and soon after, tipped his horn in the direction of the other. "Dorian, you may call me. I beg pardon for my being startled...I hadn't realized you were a he and not a she, from the looks of your back end."
Well damn, that wasn't a very bright thing to say, now was it? Dorian gave him the best grin he could manage and hoped the stallion wouldn't take offense. Why, Dorian himself had been called feminine more than once before, so perhaps this stallion was used to it as well, with all his frills and bright colors?

Seeing that lovely grin upon the other stallion's face he managed to reign in a low growl. He was in no mood to chase his prey so there was no need to make it bolt so soon. Things always got so messy when they ran.
"Dorian." He let his eyes dift slowly over the other stallion as he stepped further away from the flowers, pacing a circle around him. "Do you always introduce yourself in such an apologetic manner. Certainly a stallion such as yourself is used to being far more... Assertive. Has your opinion of my appearance changed just because your perception of my gender was incorrect?"

Hearing his name being said in the low voice of the larger being made the stallion straighten, feeling proud of his labeling. His own teal eyes watched as the pink and violet stallion circled around him, no doubt taking in all that was beautiful in one such as himself.
"I only use an apologetic tone if I'm feeling apologetic," he said, using his logic, "Had I not been sorry for being startled, I wouldn't have apologized. Being assertive is good and well, but there is a proper time and place for it."
He smiled again, feeling more at ease in the conversation. The stallion obviously hadn't taken offense to the misjudgment Dorian had made earlier, so he had nothing to worry about. Right?
"While my perception may have changed, your appearance has not. My opinion still stands firm that your coloring goes quite beautifully with the sunset. Such ravishing colors...pink definitely suits you, no matter what gender you are, just as teal and white suit me beautifully. Wouldn't you agree, friend?"

Taking in beauty? Perhaps... But not at this moment. No, at the moment what he was doing was more akin to sizing up prey. He wanted to see what he had to deal with as far as the other stallion went...
Strong muscles, long legs and wings. Impressive, yes, but not nearly as impressive as himself. Should there be any sort of chase there was no doubt that he would be able to overcome him but, in the meantime, he still saw no reason to take that step towards violence. Not yet. Not when he could easily continue biding his time. There were, afterall, so many other ways to go about things.
"Friend?" His brow lofted slightly as he tilted his head, trying not to smirk too broadly. He didn't want his fangs to be seen... Not yet. "Do you call everyone you've just met a friend... Even if they've yet to give you their name, Dorian?" He said the other male's name slowly, playing on that look he'd seen cross the stallion's face upon hearing his name said the first time. "That is a very dangerous thing to do, you know... Especially as close to dark as it is."

"Well, it would sound rather tacky if I just called you 'stallion', like so many other brutes tend to do around these parts." The alicorn snorted, tossing a few of his white strands back into place. "It would be easier to address you by your given name, but since you haven't been as willing to tell it as I have mine, then I see no point in pressuring you for it."
Eyes searched over the other male, and finally became locked in a stare with the opposing pink ones. "And what's so dangerous about calling others friends? It's not a crime, at least, not to my knowledge. Besides, you should feel honored... I only befriend beautiful creatures, so you're lucky I even addressed you as such!"

"Now, now... There is no need to get so defensive, Dorian. The world is filled with so many ugly things..." He stretched out his wing carefully, flexing feathers in the early evening air before bringing the tip up to lightly brush at a strand of the other stallion's hair only to slowly let it trail down along the curve of his jaw.
"What makes you so certain that beauty is not a deception yet again? You have already been incorrect once this evening in thinking me one thing when I am clearly another... You wouldn't make the same mistake again, would you?"

His head remained high, his spirits, higher. It was only until the light pink feather caressed his cheek did he feel a shudder ripple down his spine. As much as he enjoyed the attention, as much as he would typically adore this situation, this touch, something wasn't right. Something wasn't right at all.
He shook his head, brushing the feather off. A cocky grin had plastered itself across his face, though he could still feel a tingle of where the stallion's feather had touched him. He had liked it, yes, but that feeling of dread was overcoming any feeling of pleasure he might have been experiencing at the same time.
He turned, and soon enough, was standing side by side with the larger creature. "Beauty is never a deception... it's the being within, hiding behind the beauty that can be the deceiving. Is the hemlock not a beautiful flower? Yet, with a few bites, any horse, no matter how strong, will fall victim to its poison. Is the lion not a magnificent beast? Yet he can kill in an instant."
Teal eyes focused on the pink ones beside him, though they yearned to study the stallion's features more closely. "All these things... yes, deception lies within, but that makes them no less beautiful, my friend."

The other stallion's words held very much truth... Good things to remember throughout life even if, eventually, one was bound to slip and forget. He began to wonder if he could make this stallion slip; if he could drag him into a game of deception, weaving a beautiful web to wrap him in.
"Tell me, Dorian..." He tilted his head slightly so that he could look at the other stallion, bringing his wing up once more so that he could slowly trail the tips of feathers down along the muscular neck that was now closer to him. He leaned in closer, breath warm against the alicorn's ear as he spoke, lips almost caressing it. "... Do you like beautiful things?"

"If I didn't, I surely would be hating myself quite terribly by now," he snorted, his ear giving off an involuntary twitch as the larger alicorn's breath warmed it over.
Dorian didn't mind flirting, especially when it came to all things beautiful and handsome. But this was no longer flirting... there was something about the way this stallion said his name that set the smaller alicorn on edge. It made him nervous and he couldn't figure out why.
"And am I to assume the same of you, stallion who has yet to formally introduce himself?"
