Has anyone here read the Dresden Files books? They're fantastic, much much better than the show on scifi based off the books. I started them about a month ago and now own, and have read, books 2-6. I think the first one was one of my favorites (Storm Front), but I love the whole series.

They're written like a mystery book, except that Harry Dresden, the private investigator, is a wizard. It's a mix of fantasy and mystery with a dash of horror in the later books. A little on the dark side, they're still a fantastic read. If you haven't read them, I suggest you take a look!

If you like the Dresden Files, you might also like the Nightside novels by Simon R. Green, which involves a place in London not found on any map where gods, demons, and other supernatural creatures rub shoulders with ordinary (and not-so-ordinary) mortals. The books are a delight to read, and the narration by the main character contains as many sly comments and subtle jokes as in the Dresden novels. Two opposable thumbs up!
