Vi liked spooky things. They kept the other whales away, the ones that didn't understand him. The ones who feared him without even getting to know what he was like. Ever since a child, Vifunguo had been all alone, and everyone seemed to be afraid of him. Once he had grown, he decided to encourage that natural fear. He enjoyed seeing other flee in terror from him, while he laughed in the face of the creepy and unnatural.

While normally he lurked near the drop off, today he had drifted off out of boredom, ending up near a sunken ship, which had caught his attention. It was intriguing, he was considering trying to 'haunt' the place.

"Such fun to be had, but not a soul to see it. Pity." Vi mused to himself as he drew closer, "Best not to linger where there's nothing productive to do." He waved his fin, as if shrugging, "Oh who am I kidding? I'm never productive."

Another creature had been at the sunken ship, and she had been watching the skeleton whale with interest. She was not afraid of him, she was not afraid of anything. What was there to fear when the Gods were on your side?

She swam towards him silently, leaving the sunken ships protection. The sun caught her, and every scar and rip was revealed in the light. "Greetings." She said softly, watching him with her intense, pale eyes. "I am Athari. Who are you?"

Vi glanced at Athari for a moment, but did a double-take as some of her scars caught his eye. He was suddenly quite interested in who she was. "My name is Vifunguo, Vi for short." He kept the usual malice out of his voice. He normally just did that to scare others, but she didn't seem frightened in the least.

He swam a little closer, eyeing her scars with interest. "If I may be so bold, how did you acquire such trophies?" He asked, nearly grimacing as he saw the condition of her fins and dorsal fin. He kept it inside himself though, determined not to show weakness. "Great battles, perhaps?"

Athari watched him as he examined her. She showed no signs of wanting him to stop; in fact, she turned so he could see the rest of her 'trophies'. "Great battles, yes. Mostly with sharks and other whales." She spoke simply, not really wanting to speak of her past life.

"I do believe you'd be a fine candidate for MaachioMachwa." She said suddenly, examing him as he had done to her moments before. "I sense a great power in you." She knew how to stroke an ego; and she took full advantage of it.

Vi smiled, "You must be strong." He had no scars, because few were brave enough to fight him. He was glad though, while he had a high pain tolerance, he didn't want scars betraying his identity as a being of flesh rather than bone.

Vi swelled with pride and grinned, "Thank you." He was rarely complimented, and had little experience responding to them, but he did love to be told how powerful he was. He had no idea who MaachioMachwa was, however. "May I ask who it is you speak of?"

Athari took on a look of shock, though it was quite fake. She hadn't yet met another whale who already knew of the God. "You don't know of Him? He is the whale God. He has ultimate power over all mortal souls." She swam a little closer, lowering her voice, "He is our savior. If you follow me, he will bring your soul to eternal salvation. If you refuse him, he will damn you to the depths of hell foevermore."

Vi looked puzzled, "Are you trying to frighten me? Because I assure you it's not working." He lied. For the first time in as long as he could remember, fear had stabbed at his heart. Sure, pain in life he could deal with, for it was temporary, but hell? Forever? That did not sound pleasant.

"I have to respect the power of the gods, however." He said simply, "I will join you on the path to salvation. What must I do, great messenger?" This much was true, he did want salvation, but in the back of his mind was the trickle of a frightening thought... Stealing the power of the gods for his own.

Athari didn't think any mortal would have the gal to try and steal the Gods power, and Vi was no acception. She figured her words had frightened him into submission. "Very well. You, I think, are perfect for a Priest. Although we do not yet have any calfs within our pod, when we do you will teach them the ways of Maachio'Machwa, and mold them to suit our purposes. Pound out any sign of doubt within them, and let only the wonders and horrors of the Gods fill their heads." She wondered if he would accept this offer, although she felt he would. He seemed a whale that liked to control and shape others to his liking.

Perfect, just perfect. A title and a position of power, what could be better? "It would be an honor to serve Maachio'Machwa in that way." He said proudly. While he would much rather fill young minds with the idea of tormenting others and inducing fear to gain respect, being in charge of anything made him all giddy. Perhaps he could even pull some of them with the most potential into his plans for using the god's power for his own... But that was still a long way off. He'd have to bide his time carefully, and be sure not to let anyone find out about it.

"Is there anything I ought to do until the young minds enter the world?" He inquired, feeling that life would be quite boring until his new pupils came around.

Athari nodded, smiling devilishly once more. "You can help me collect others for the pod. If you see anyone, anyone at all, let them know about Maachio'Machwa and His wonders." She watched the skeleton whale with a sly expression. Perfect. Her plans were coming along nicely.

"Naturally." He said with a nod, "I'll get started then, shall I?" He asked, turning slightly as if to leave to search for others. "That is, unless there is still more you wish me to know? I would not be ignorant if I can help it."

"Yes, there is one more thing. Please follow me." She said, turning and swimming off to the East of the ship. She didn't turn to look back and see if he was following.

"I'm going to show you where you will teach the calfs. It is excluded from the rest of the lands and no one is to know about it; we even blindfold the calfs when they first come so they can't leave without you. They are blindfolded again when it is time for them to leave as adolescants."

As she spoke they made thier way through a maze of rocks and weeds, and finally she stopped. "This is the entrance." It took much swishing of her fins to clear the entrance and show the other whale. It was hardly big enough to fit them one at a time, and Athari swam in as if she had done it a million times. Which she had.

The inside of the Teaching Ring was immense; almost the size of the rest of the pod lands. The rocks surrounded it completely, even skimming the surface of the sea, so it was near impossible to swim over it. There were no other entrances nor exits, aside from the one Athari had just swam through. "This," She said, finally looking behind at him, "Is where you will teach."

"Oh?" Vi followed curiously, watching carefully and taking in the location so that he would not forget this tunnel. He carefully swam through after Athari, his jaw dropping slightly as he saw the size of the ring.

"It is such an honor to be given the location of a place so secret." He smiled, imagining living here and teaching young minds in the ways of combat and faith, as if the instructor of a secret school. "Thank you, Athari. I will reveal the location to no one." He bowed his head respectfully, though it pained him to do it. He hated admitting others were superior to himself, but this one truly did have everything worked out. He respected that.

Athari nodded her head back to him; not quite a bow, but close. "You are welcome, and thank the Gods more than me. It was Maachio'Machwa that lead me to this place in my greatest time of need." Her eyes glazed over then, reliving the days of her calfhood. She had been so sick and lonely, and the Gods had comforted her and shown her this safe haven.

Shaking her head slightly, she looked back to him, her vision sharp and clear once again. "There are no calfs yet among us, but I hope to rectify that soon. I am in search of females willing to join the pod, so if you happen across any, make sure you try your best to get them to join." She said with another nod.

"Of course. How near-sighted of me." Of course these gods were the ones he should be thanking the most. "The gods are kind, but they do not forget to be stern with us. They are the most wonderful and powerful creators we could hope for."

"Ah, of course." A mischievous smile crossing his face for a moment. The reason there were no calves was because there were no females. But once that happened... He would be quite willing to help the process along a little.
