A lazy flick of his tail sent him from the deep blue expanse toward one of the reefs near bye. There was food in that direction and his hide needed a good cleaning. No place better for either of those than the reef.
He coasted though the water easily ignoring the fish as they started to grow in numbers. Nothing would go running to hide unless he looked as if he was hungry. It was easy enough to say that he would much rather get a good cleaning before he bothered with breakfast.
A few lazy turns here and there and he eventually wound up gliding in circles around a small mountain on the reef. The cleaner fish were more than happy to do him service and even more happy when he set his hooves down carefully to rest for a bit.

She had... Gotten lost. Somehow she had been seperated from her school and she couldn't quite recall where she'd last seen them.
The feelings of worry soon disappeared as she realized just how great this could be. She was free. There was no one to keep her from exploring the things that she shouldn't; no one to tell her what she could and couldn't eat... No one to keep her from the Great Adventure That All Mers Dreamed About.
That in mind she whirled onwards, turning a few loops as she swam through the reef. She stopped only after running into a big, blue wall. Eyes nearly spinning in her head she tried to regain her balance. "Woaaaaah."

He grunted as something knocked into his ribs. Whoever it had been was in serious trouble of becoming lunch. Turning his head slowly he looked down at the small orange thing.
Bait.
"Little fishies should watch where they're going...." His voice was low as he glared at her. She had to have been newly hatched if she hadn't been able to fell him before she hit him. It wasn't like he was small.

She looked up as her head stopped spinning, eyes wide as she took in just how big the thing she'd run into was in comparison to her. It could probably fit her entire head into it's mouth... Alright. So maybe not her entire head... But at least her muzzle.
"Little fishies?" She snapped out of her daze as she shook her head. "I'm not a little fishie! Little fishies are the fishies I eat for breakfast."

His muzzle curled up in a grin as he leaned his head down to look at her. "Take into consideration the fact that should i desire i could bite that cute little nose off your face."
She was a lot smaller than him and that qualified as a 'little fishy'. "Though ... if little fishy doesn't work then i could just call you bait." Not that she was really so much bait as a snack but it worked. Bait was usually small anyway since you used it to catch bigger things.

She eyed his teeth for a moment, getting close enough to properly examine them before swishing bach before he could n** at her. "There's no meet in my nose." It scrunched as she spoke of it, tail giving a swish through the water behind her.
SHe shook her head as she glanced up to the big fish. "Or you could call me Portokali... Since that's my name. What's yours? Or should I just call you 'Big Fish'?"

He let his tail move lazily in the water under him so he could keep still for the cleaner fish that were still working. It alway made bath go much faster if he managed to hold still for them.
"I could just call you bait. I doubt my name is all that important to you small fry." After all once he was cleaned up and had found something substantial to eat he'd just head back out into the blue. She was probably being missed by her school by now anyway. What was she going to do? Follow him?

"Or you could call me Porto... Or Kali... I'm not bait." Her nose wrinkled as she swam closer to him, inspecting the strange fish that were moving around him. "What are those? What are they doing? Does it hurt? Does it tickle? Should I just call you 'Big Fish' then, Big Fish?"

She just didn't shut up. Managing not to grumble too loud he turned his head slowly. The cleaner fish were almost done and they were used to him snapping at things anyway. Reaching back he snapped sharp teet as close to her as he could get.
She was out of range of him actually taking a chunk out of her but the point should get across. Unless she was just stupid. He was starting to wonder that if she lived on the reef and didn't know what cleaner fish were.

This had been her first trip to the Big Reef. It was supposed to be a learning experience and wow, was it. Her eyes went wide as she eyed the teeth that had just snapped not far from her, heart threatening to pound out of her chest. This was great.
"Have your teeth always been so sharp? Have you ever bit your tongue? Are you going to tell me your name?"

"......" He just stared at the little orange thing. She must have been a complete idiot! Wasn't in suppose to be instinct to get away from things that could eat you? To not try to make friendly conversation with them? Was there some new rule that he had somehow missed getting while roaming the blue expanses?

She paused, blinking at him after a moment. "... What? What?" Why wasn't he answering her? He just kept... Giving her that strange look as if, somehow, he hadn't been able to understand a word she'd said. Maybe she had spoken too quickly. "Did. You. Understand. Me?"

He sighed and sent bubbles up around him before he wiggled enough to dislodge the cleaner fish who were now picking at his actual skin. If he just swam away she'd leave him alone. Little fish like that didn't go out into the open ocean. There wasn't enough for them to eat and if they tried they either gave up or they died.
Letting his body rise he headed for the surface to replace the air he'd lost in sighing. Once that was accomplished he should be able to move along without too much trouble.

Convinced that he must not have understood her properly she swam after him. There had to be something that she could learn from him in order to make him understand her. Afterall, why wouldn't he want company? Especially hers. She was bright and chipper enough.

As he turned from the surface he noticed her following him and huffed slightly. She'd loose interest once he got away from the reef. Flicking his tail he moved lazily though the water toward the edge of the reef.
As he moved he snapped his teeth around an unsuspecting fish and grinned as he swallowed it. Now that food was taken care of.
