Yet another Hai and Trel RP. XD
Who: Naneth and Remus What: Just getting acquainted? When: Some early evening after the Miaka/Tamahome egg hunt that's not the Lupin family's bad time of month. XP Where: Trel's place Why: 'Cause we wanted to, and Naneth wanted to check up on Miaka anyway.
It was just about the point of the day that afternoon indicernably begins fading into evening when purple and black star-pelted female padded up to the door. The lump of scar tissue on her neck and shoulder, while still almost painfully visible, had gotten much better since her initial meeting with Lily. In fact it almost never bothered her anymore unless the weather was about to get really bad.
She wondered idly how the nice young crimson pelted girl was doing with her chosen mate. Oh, certainly she felt badly for her son, but she knew no harm had been meant and while Endless was still hurting he held no bitterness toward the pair. The entire household was rather fond of both of them, and even if past experiences hadn't disposed her toward forgiveness she couldn't have been able to hold anything against them. She simply wished for her son's heart to heal, and not just for his sake.
But... that wasn't why she'd come. She'd come for far more joyeous reasons, wanting to check and see how young Miaka was doing now that they'd recovered her egg. Those poor angelic kits had probably gotten quite a scolding, but if it taught them a lesson it was well enough in the end.
Ah... enough with the wandering thoughts. She raised a paw to gently rap at the door. If she waited to long it would be well into evening, and she didn't want to disrupt whatever nightly rituals of unwinding and dinner and getting ready for rest the family had. Though she did hope she wasn't interrupting dinner as it was... not everyone tended to eat as late in the day as they did at the Place.

The door opened and a light chocolate head framed by auburn 'bangs' and having dark chocolate ears peeked out of the door as it opened above a swaying red & gold scarf. The male's baby blue eyes brightened recognizing the female. "Hey! I remember you! Comforted Miaka during the search didn't you? I'm Hemi." His eyes crinkled for a moment in thought. "You're Endless' mum, aren't you? Lily told me 'bout you. While ago now." A soft look, somewhat sad & fully compassionate. "That was a hard time, all 'round..."
Grinning he backed out of the doorway as he held the door open for her and welcomed Naneth inside. "C'mon in! You here to see Miaka?" Most logical conclusion. "She might be asleep. Dad's on guard with her though. Makes her feel better until the kits hatch, you know? Just to have one of us there when Tama's off. Which isn't often." Another warm & sweet smile as he talked while leading the way across the room to the door on the north wall. Most sounds could be heard from the kitchen where dinner was being prepared. Theron was in front of the television playing trains with Tien and some of the other small creatures who were more interested in play than being afraid of a human 3 year old. Others were lounging around in their "usual" places.
"Did Endless or one of the others there fill you in on our house? i forget sometimes others aren't familiar with it."

Naneth smiled as Hemi opened the door, nodding to both of his statements of recognition to her identity. "Name's Naneth, dear." Her features clouded for a moment at the referral to the time during the love triangle affair, and while her smile returned it was a bit sad. "Ah... Love is a wonderful thing with terrible power, dear. And rarely is it simple." Her voice was still slightly harsh from the damage done by the infection, but the melodic qualities shone through as strongly as ever. Somehow it made what she said seem that much more meaningful.
Naneth padded inside after him with a grateful hint fluttering across her smile now, glancing curiously around the room. "Oh yes, I was wondering how the little dear was doing. I know how traumatic losing a child can be..." Sadness flickered again but was soon quelled. "I'm glad we found the wee one as quickly as we did." And she could certainly understand the comfort of having a guardian around to watch out for you. If only her guardian angel hadn't been the one that turned on her... Past is past. Don't forget about today again... there are good memories to be had now.
She turned back to Hemi at his question, eyes widening slightly and smile becoming genuine and easy once more. "Ah... I've heard a bit, though I can't say if I was paying all that much attention at the time. My mind tends to wander sometimes. Are we going to use that door of yours, then?" In spite of the fact they'd had one installed at home she hadn't even touched it as yet. End and Iris and she tended to stick to more normal conventions and stayed in the rooms in the hall where Atae and Endless had claimed spaces when they came to live there. What need had they of the door? They could get to the kitchen, the bathroom, and one another, as well as either exit to the outdoors.

He nodded at her answers, even grinning at her name. "Naneth. That's cool. Yeah. Now I remember Lily telling me your name." Hemi gave a silly grin. "I'm better with names when I meet a body. Mind's funny that way."
The young adult had to agree with the 'love' thing. Though he much like his sister before did not think of romantic love for himself he had lived through her pains of that time, from knowing her knowing how hard it was for her.
Better to stick to Miaka to talk about though. Liliana would not appreciate her baby brother talking about her like that. "You do? That must be why Miaka was so glad you were around. And yeah... it's good we found it so fast. I mean, my family could have probably done it on our own if we could have thought up that things 'bout the girls having done it, but why take chances, right? Many hands make light work or something, right?"
Now they were at the door. "Anyway... the door goes many places at once. Convenient, that, so we don't have to mess up the outside when the family grows." As usual, Hemi was smiling to beat the band, his deep chocolate tails wagging behind him. "But don't worry... I can find Miaka's room for you." Concentrating the scarfed male knocked. "Dad? I've Naneth with me. You know, Endless' mum? She'd like to check on Miaka."
"Naneth?" A cheery if sleepy voice could be heard through the door. "Oh let her in Remy!"
The door opened and a bemused Remus greeted them, ushering them inside. Hemi bounded in, gave the priestess a hug then trotted back out again. "I'll leave her in your safe paws, Dad. Later Naneth!"

Naneth nodded, understanding completely. Her memory was bad enough without having a face available to put a name to. The one really nice thing about the whole missing egg affair was getting to actually see more of Lily's family/friends since others in the house talked of them so often.
She chuckled at his continued musings about the egg hunt, and laughed a bit louder when he bounded through the door. She followed at a more sedate pace, giving Remus a quick head-bow of greeting as she padded toward Miaka. It made her feel incredibly good that the young priestess seemed so excited to see her again... sleepily excited, yes, but excited none the less.
She waved Hemi out the door and then turned to give Miaka a quick hug herself before seating herself where she could face either of the other kitsu easily when speaking and listening. "Hello Miaka, dear, how are you and the little ones?" Wondering idly how soon they would hatch she turned to give Remus a teasing wink and stuck her tongue out just barely. "I'll just bet you're feeling nostalgic helping to watch eggs again, hmm?" She knew very well he already had a rather large family of his own and just couldn't help a little peer-to-peer fun.

"Oh, we're good." Miaka said cheerily, giving a huge yawn then blushing, her eyes looking lidded with attempts not to fall asleep. "As long as someone's around! I slept through one being taken to play with before and I don't want to again!"
"Which means we sometimes have to drug her to get her to sleep at all, if she doesn't pass out from exhaustion beforehand." The wizard commented drolly before blushing at the question directed at himself as Miaka giggled. "Ah.... ehm. Yes. I could never forget Nari with our kits. Although when the second ones were arriving I was fretting over Liliana having disappeared..."
Remus Lupin paled, having caught up to what his son had told him. "ah but Endless likely told you about that time..." It was after all when he had met Remus' daughter, as the wizard had been told later once Liliana was speaking with him again. "eh... oh dear. ah. Yes. Actually I'm quite beside myself as it is, to think overly much about nostalgia. Two of my daughters also have new eggs to care for."
And he sweat every night about their care.
"And not to mention Ginny's kits too. I hear Cedrella's been bringing one of Mami's eggs over from time to time from Ginny's other home. At least she tells the mother before taking an egg out to play!" Miaka nibbled on a cookie.

Naneth listened thoughtfully as the two spoke and wound up waiting patiently for Miaka to finish with her cookie before gently resting her head atop the young mother's and pressing downward so that the priestess had to rest her head next to one of the eggs she'd curled around. "Sleep, dear. You won't do those little ones any good if you make yourself sick. There are two of us now and there's certainly not going to be any eggs slipping past me." She could be quite stubborn when she wanted to be, and this was one of those times. Just to help things along she started humming a lovely, soothing tune quietly, possibly some lullaby she'd heard when she was little and didn't remember the words to.
Once Miaka was finally taken care of she carefully lifted her head again and looked to Remus. "What worries you so? If Lily is any indication your children are all lovely, caring people."

Miaka gave a little meep, then slowly -or quickly actually- succumbed to the power of a mother who had, well more stubbornness than she. With a yawn the priestess drifted off to dreamland, body and tails curled protectively around her eggs.
The wizard arched a brow first as he was questioned in such a manner by one he barely knew aside from second and, then again after hearing how she spoke of Liliana. Remus pursed his lips then cleared his throat before answering. "Thank you, to say so of my children. In that I would agree with you, though I would be afraid of bias."
He laughed, a trifle nervously. "It is not my children in their, how shall I say this?, own selves that worry me. In truth, it is more the one than the other..."
Remus sighed heavily. "I worried when Liliana found herself with two loves, but that I could understand for I had nearly been there though I believe sometimes that had I been willing, had we been able, they would have shared. I knew from watching your son and Edward that sharing would be out of the question even were it an option. I could see and understand...."
Another sigh. That was not where he had intended to go. "I digress. What worries me is my younger daughter, Ayako. For the father of her kits does not love her nor the kits, and unlike my mate's sister's mate who I learned also is a Heartless..." He paused, blinking. "But then you may know something of this. My niece, Bryna, lives with you after all. Does she not?"

Naneth was silent for a moment when he started speaking of what had happened with Lily and Endless and Ed. "Ah..." She frowned slightly. "End... I think he would have been willing to share. But... he knew that probably wasn't best for Lily, and that Ed wouldn't have been able to." She trailed off, shrugging, as he changed the subject.
This... ah, this was a difficult subject, wasn't it? "I believe what they are called is Nobodies. That's what Bryna refers to herself and Shoom as. Ah... if you desire more detailed information about them you could ask Kitsyn. She is Xigbar's friend... and I have a feeling she knows more about them than he's actually told her, little though I know how. But... my turn to digress. Yes, Bryna is a sweet girl, when she wants to be. She also talks about having a "feeling" occasionally, so I don't think she is entirely handicapped emotionally. But... yes, I see your point."
She was quiet for a very long time then. "I won't say it is good for your daughter to be denied love by the one who sired her kits, but... it is better that he is honest about his lack of feelings. I would hate to see another make the mistake I made."

His ears flicked, but Remus heeded his head this time and stayed quiet on the matter of Liliana. It was done.
"No... that won't be necessary. I spoke with Xigbar and Noko myself to learn of this 'Organization' of theirs. Connected to it now twice over..."
wheew. It was difficult to keep his thoughts in line about this. "I never thought any of my kits would... without love... not even friends really..."
Remus blinked, a concerned look for Naneth overwhelming for the moment his own worries. "Dear lady... what mistake would that be? If I am not rude in the asking."

Aaah... is that what the problem was? Ayako had decided to experiment and it went wrong... it didn't sound entirely unlike what she'd done, though it was more along the lines of clinging to something that wasn't there in her own case.
"Ah... I know Endless confided the event to Liliana, but did she ever tell you? These scars on my neck, Remus... the father of my children gave them to me." She sighed, though softly, not wanting to wake Miaka with something suddenly louder than their conversational murmur. "Though I loved him, at least, by the time I ran off with him when I got pregnant. I wasn't sure how he felt about me, but I wanted to believe he loved me. Endless and the other two were too small really to realize how things really were between us, and for a while neither did I. He stayed with me because the kits and I were his possessions. He never cared about us, not really, and when the lover I had turned away showed back up... He didn't even try to take things beyond the realm of friendship again, but Kairn wouldn't accept it. Kairn attacked him, and when I tried to help him later, he called me a two-timing b***h and did this. Part of it, anyway. I tried to leave later because I knew it was getting worse and he added to it." For a moment her sorrow was almost palpable. "So, Remus, I must say there are worse things that could have happened to your girl..."
She smiled wanly then. "But Endless at least survived after I got sick, and I've managed to find him again. I can't take back the time that was lost but I can make what I have now count all the more. Now... I hope you don't mind if I pause for a moment, when I concentrate too much on the past my memory starts shifting on me and I tend to start rambling..." She shook her head. "I suppose I should be glad that all the fever did was give me a kaliedoscopic memory rather than making me senile."

Remus could hardly believe what he was hearing. It was something he would have expected more from his before than from between kitsu. Of course Liliana had not told him... it had not been her tale to tell. Only in generals did she speak of what she knew of her friend's families, and their histories.
He nodded, Letting her have long moments of quiet before he voice even a comment. "I had hoped... kitsu did not do such things." The wizard also did not know of the drama even in his own Soul Brother's family. "For something so terrible..."
His voice faded and Remus shifted, moving to hug the scarred female. "Yes... my daughter's predicament is much better than the pain you must have lived through. For though they never intended anything to happen, I am fair certain even Saix will not harm the kits. Or Ayako. We could stop him, physically at least, should it come to that."
ah.. he just was not thinking straight still. Remus gave Naneth an apologetic smile.

Naneth's smile grew rueful. "It is rare among kitsu for such things to happen. But it does happen. It seems to be the curse that goes with the blessing of being more than simple minded animals." She shrugged. "But... your daughter is definitely much better off. You are also a far better father to her than I had in mine. Not that he didn't care for me... he just wasn't very good at it." She shrugged again and shook her head. "The past is the past though. It's not to be changed, and... I wouldn't give up what I've gained now even in spite of what happened before. I just hope perhaps the lessons I've learned will help others."
She glanced down at Miaka. "And you know that we at the place would gladly put ourselves at your disposal to help protect any of yours here... Especially Ifrit, though I don't think many of yours have ever met him. He's a terror to face in a fight, and he won't stand for anyone harming a kit."

"Ifrit?" Remus arched his brows, then chuckled. "Enough have met him that I know of him. Chroma still talks of him, you know. But then Chroma-dear talks often of everyone she has met. And of course Rikku mentions him, though with that ninja of hers always on her mind it is less than perhaps we would hear otherwise. I do believe I remember Ginevra & AearHwesta saying something about him back when they had met him but..."
He laughed shaking his head. "It is so easy to ramble, I am discovering, when I don't want to face what is bothering me. You say I am a better father than yours... I know I have tried to be a good father to my kits. But I do not feel I have done enough, that I have somehow grossly failed them in some way. I realize I cannot keep them from pain. Events of my before made that clear enough to me that parents no matter how good and loving cannot shield their children indefinitely and perfectly from evil or harm or trials and tribulations. Still... I suppose I expect more from myself."

Naneth was silent a moment in thought after his confession. "We all do our best with our children. I feel like I should have done more to try and remain with mine... I know it was beyond my control, really, but the feeling is still there. Yes?" She hmmed and nodded to herself. "Children, though... sometimes they have to make their own mistakes and face their own trials, whether we've taught them against making those mistakes or not. I'm sure Ayako didn't want things to come about like they did..."
She sighed. "They have to face their trials, though. If we never let them come to any sort of harm, they never have a chance to discover who they really are. And there are some things... like what happened to my baby. Endless has dealth with hardship and loneliness and horrible things his whole life... but now he's basically having to learn how to feel after shutting everything out for so long. Ayako may not have the love of the father of her kits but she has support in the rest of her family, and ours, and I'm certain that somewhere in all this some good will turn out that might not have otherwise. Life is... funny that way."
She was quiet for another moment. "There are people I've helped, that needed a mother and didn't have one... people who wouldn't have had anyone to turn to at that point if my life hadn't gone the way it did. I think that's the important thing... finding the good that comes out of the bad. Otherwise we'd all go mad, sooner or later."
