A delicate snore was all that could be heard from the large form that had taken residence in the cool shade of one of the local forest trees. The humble beast, cat-like in shape, was splayed across the grass in a semi-ball, his paws spread before his exposed stomach. Even in sleep he kept himself guarded, weary for an attack by a human or possibly one of his own kind. His face, covered by a regal mask, held a peaceful expression and the only movement was his lips as he intook and exhaled air. The blades of grass beneath his mouth swayed in his breath. It was a very pelasant day. A gentle breeze carressed the earth and shook the tree tops ever so lightly. The warm summer air was just the right temperature and not too humid in the least. Fluffy white clouds rolled across the sky serenly. The great cat had seized the gorgeous weather to catch some shut eye. He had been wandering a great distance and it was finally time to rest for a bit. The great cloud of grey that apepared to be smoke quivered on his back but no other movement could be heard. He'd stopped snoring abruptly and the bugs of summer chirrued on.

Maeko jumped from rock to rock, making sure she didn't touch the water stream. With one last spring, she jumped towards the bank. Splash. She didn't make it afterall. "Noooo!!! I'm all wet now!! Ugh." Maeko whined, she rushed out of the water quickly. She gave a shook and water droplets went everywhere.
Maeko shook her fur some more and then again. She was still soaked but not so much soaked as she was before. Grumbling she took off, running through some grass and then through some bushes. After coming out of those bushes, Maeko stopped. Her heart beat loud in her chest, she could swear she could hear it with her ears.
A very huge Shikokuyen, well it was huge to her anyway considering she was still a child. Maeko held in a gasp and her eyes widened. Her ears went down, and she shivered, it wasn't from the cold of the water though. She backed away, her eyes on the Shikokuyen.
It seemed to be sleeping, which was good for her. Maeko continued backing up when she snapped a twig. "Aaah." She cried out, "Stupid!! It's gonna wake up now!" Her voice was pitchy, quite loud.

The very moment the twig snapped Entei's ears perked up. His breath caught in his chest and his eyes fluttered open. The once-gentle brown orbs held a slightly hostile gleam as the great cat lift his head quickly and swept his gaze over everything in the surrounding area. His muscles had grown rigid, him having shifted into what could be considered defense mode. But nothing seemed amiss. Something small and orange was in front of him. Instantly he relaxed, letting a great yawn roll off his lips and expose his greta sharp teeth. Perhaps not the best thing to do around such a young one...
He quickly snapped his jaws shut and looked somewhat sleepily towards the little orange fluffball. He remained laying down, wondering if should dare sit up. The look of fright on the child's face was almost pitiful and he didn't want to startle it any more. He gave the creature a warm smile, careful to not let any of his teeth show, and his eyes sparkled in the sun. "Hello," he purred to the little one, his voice as dark and rich as velvet. His tone was very friendly. It seemed the orange Shikokuyen had been playing in the stream east of him as she was all wet.
"I won't harm you," He tried to assure her, putting emphasis on the words. It had been a while since he had encountered a youth. Or any other Shikokuyen for that matter. He would make use of this time while he was taking a small break from his roaming. "What's your name?"

They were huge! Maeko stood, paralyzed, as she caught a glimpse of those teeth. He could tear her apart in one bit! She gulped and shook again. The rather big Shikokuyen seemed friendly enough when he said hello but what if....what if it was a trap! What if he wanted to.....eat her! She gulped.
But....he truly did seem friendly. His smile was honest and he did say he wouldn't harm her. Maeko believed him. He wouldn't hurt her, she was sure of it. "Hello." She replied, her voice still pitchy. She crept closer to him, stopping every few seconds. Finally reaching him she sat down.
He was so big, Maeko stared up at him with still a bit of fear in her orange orbs. Though she felt as if she could trust him, he still was rather big and that scared her. But he did wish to know her name and it was polite to tell him. "Maeko." She sighed in relief, her voice wasn't that shaky or that pitchy anymore. "What.....what's....your name?"

Entei was relieved to see she had warmed up to him a bit. His eyes glittered like melted chocolate and he seemed to radiate happiness. He did have that trustworthy aura about him that naturally made others want to trust him. But she was still weary. A very good thing as she was so young...it was a good habbit to get into. His smile grew slightly bigger as she spoke. While a child's voice usually held no tone differences as to differentiate between a boy and a girl he could tell this little one was female. Her slightly high-pitched voice was part of a giveaway. "Maeko," He let her name roll of his tongue and chuckled gently.
"You have a pretty name, Maeko." He nodded, the grey wisps trailing down his back wavering lightly. "Well its very nice to meet you," He rest his large head on his paws now about eye level with the small feline. "I am Entei," He quietly observed the youth, stretching out his back paws ever so slightly. Again he noticed she was wet. "Have you been to the stream?" He asked like a knowing parent, chuckling lightly before she gave a response.

She blinked, her eyes brightening. "You....you really.....think it's a pretty name?" She slowly grinned, "Thank you." Maeko's ears perked up and her tail wagged, happy that her name was considered pretty. She sucked in her breath when his head became eye level with her, his head was almost the size of her. She gulped, shaking her head to get these thoughts away.
"Entei?" Maeko repeated. "Your....name.....is nice. Yes, nice." She nodded politely, the name was different but she liked how it was something she had never heard before. Maeko looked down, yes her fur was still wet, she had completely forgotton about it after this very big Shikokuyen. "Yes...." She mumbled, "I was....playing." What if it was his stream? What if she was in big trouble now? She stared at the ground.

Entei nodded, glad he could make the little one happy with something so trivial. "You are welcome," He replied, continuing to observe the small orange fluffball. He couldn't help but hear her gulp when he lowered his head though. He'd have to be evern more delicate it seemed. He scolded himself mentally for such a careless move. It was obvious he was dealing with something very, very fragile. "Oh you think so? Why thank you," His name wasn't exactly common and her attempt was nice. He had to swivel his ears foreward to catch what she mumbled in response to his question. His kind expression never faltered. He wondered if she thought he was going to scold her. That's certainly what it looked like.
"Oh I see," He let a pause go by before continuing. "The last time I cheked that water was quite chilly, are you cold?" He inquired, smiling a bit broader but never letting his teeth show. Even though the air was pleasantly warm the stream still held its frigid temperature. It always provided a nice drink but never a good swim. Entei had experienced this personally. His brown mane wavered in the wind.

Cold? Maeko shivered when she thought about it. Yeah that water was cold, but her fear of him had been more so that she hadn't even felt it. But now being reminded of that water, well Maeko was indeed cold. She shivered again. "I am. Cold, yeah." Maeko nodded. "But the bright sunshine will make me all warm again."
But she would stay cold till the sun's rays reached her of course. The way he was grinning really made Maeko feel as if she could truly trust him. That made her feel content and less frightened of him. It was true that when she grew she could be as big of him, but still being small when everything else around you was so big was hard.

Entei quirked an eyebrow at the little one's shivering. It wouldn't do her any good to catch a cold, although he doubted it was cold enough outside for her to do such a thing. She would dry off in no time. At least it wasn't winter. He shook his head to himself, an amused glint in his eye. He sounded like a mother. "You'll have to be more careful next time," The way he said that wasn't chastizing and didn't hold any trace of an edge to it. He sounded amused, really. He opened his mouth, inhaled for a few moments, and then exhaled softly as if sighing without the noise.
A pleasantly warm stream of air surged past his lips towards the youth, just a tad too hot to be his normal breath but not hot enough to cause her any discomfort. It was like a warm breeze on a nice summer evening. And no, it didn't stink like his breath probably would have. He knew it wasn't enough to dry her completely but perhaps grant her a few seconds of comfort.

She nodded slowly. She peeked a glimpse of his face, raising her head when she saw that he was just amused. She gave him a small smile and nodded. "Yep, definately will be." Maeko indeed would, she gave her word. Accidents would happen but she would try her hardest to prevent them.
She shivered a little again though her fur was drying from the sun's rays. She watched as Entei blew, or it looked like he was blowing towards her with his lips like this. She leaned back a bit, not understanding what he was doing. When she felt the gust of warm air touch her, warming her up, she froze. How did he do that? She stared at him, wide-eyed. "Wow."

Entei was highly amused by her wide-eyed stare. He had to admit, she was a cute little thing. Winking he carefully stood up, trying not to make his large size painfully obvious. "Let me show you something else," He said, turning around and striding a few paces away. His walk was rather elegant. He scanned the ground underneath the nearby trees with his keen eyes. He began to gather sticks and before you knew it he had accumulated a very small pile of twigs, most that were dead and leafless. A meter or so away from Maeko he began to tear away the earth with his large paws, making a good sized makeshift fire pit that wasn't too deep.
He pushed the sticks in the center of it and gave another wink at Maeko. Then, making sure she was watching, he stooped and and inhaled grandly. When he exhaled, hot air was not the only thing to come out. A very small stream of flame snaked out from between his jaws, ensnaring the small pile of wood and setting it ablaze instantly. The fire didn't rise up past five inches, he was very careful to keep it small. He didn't want to burn the forest down or scare her. "Ta-da." He chuckled, watching her expression carefully. His mane was ruffled as a light breeze shook the forest.

She smiled up at him, a little eager at what he had to show her as well as a little nervous as she wasn't sure what to expect. She watched intently as he gathered sticks and placed them near her. What was Entei going to do? Maeko blinked. The much larger Shikokuyen then began to dig, her eyes widened at how fast he could dig. She couldn't dig very well at all, maybe just a little dirt from the surface could be dug up when she digged.
She smiled again, when Entei seemed just about ready to show her. That was what the wink meant, right? Maeko hoped her guess was right. She squirmed in anticipation. She jumped, startled by the seemingly instantaneous flame that emerged from Entei. Her mouth fell open in pure shock. "How?" It was the only word she could say, she was still so amazed by it.
