The sun was high amongst the light blue sky when the mare had reached the Soquili lands from her home so far away. This land was vast and unfamiliar. Though strange tales of bizarre creatures had even reached the far corner of the lands she once called home.
This place was much different from what she had grown to know over the years in her life. And as far as she knew, there were no familiar faces. No one she knew on a personal level. Or as personal as she would let anyone get. No comrades to travel with. But adventure wasn't the only reason she had come.
There was something else that had caught her interest amongst the tales of wandering Soquili that had reached her homeland. A tale of a firey demon who lived in the mountains of this region.
Leaving the well traveled path she had followed, Rose turned her line of walking towards the towering mountains to the East. The mass of rock looming dangerously on the horizon. Casting its shadows along the plains and forests at its feet.
This is where the beast slept. And hopefully this is where she would find him today. If not. Then she would camp out until it finally showed itself.

The day for Valarauco had been more of less full of disinterest. No Soquili had wandered by, though that was a good thing. For them at least. And he hadn't the need to go out hunting, even if his stomach did object to the prospect of going any long without anything to fill it.
Lounging on a cliff that jutted sharply away from the side of the mountain, the large Kalona gazed out across the land with lazy eyes. His wings unfurled from their normal position against his back, lay out across the rock. Almost as if he were sunning himself. The warmth of the day was nice. And he hated the idea that winter was coming soon. By that time, he would rarely be leaving his cave deep within the mountain. The rock had a good tendency to trap heat within it. And far enough down was the small magma flow that bubbled beneath the rocky surface.
As his gaze swept across the land from his bird's eye view, something caught his eye. Something, or rather, someone was making their way into his territory. What really stuck out about this character was it's raven black hair and the purple and gold adornments it wore. From its size, it seemed to be a mare, no doubt. A devilish grin swept across his face. So it seemed he might just be in for a meal. What great delivery service these lands had.
Clambering to his hooves, he spread his wings out. Giving them a quick stretch as he waited for the mare to come closer.

The massive size and majesty of the mountains was given no justice from a distance. They were huge and there would be a lot of ground to cover to find this creature. Wherever it was hiding amongst the rock. This might take longer than she had first initially thought.
As she drew closer, the smell of fire and dirt alerted her senses. And the feeling of being watched sent a shiver along her skin. Rose hated being watched, especially by those who were hiding themselves. Violet eyes scanned the area around her. Searching the tree line then to the cliffs above her.
And there she spotted something out of the ordinary. Something read and black with webbed wings. Like those of a dragon perhaps. Her eyes locked on the creature, who was grinning down upon her. A look in his eyes that seemed to have the distinct aura of a rabid dog watching a piece of raw meat. Lifting her head high, with great dignity, she grit her teeth. "Are you the creature that plagues these lands and mountains? The one who kills all who are not of your own kind that wish to travel amongst these majestic settings?! Answer me!"

Narrowing his eyes, his grin soon faded. No new expression replaced it as he glared downwards at the mare. Was she commanding him to answer? What a demanding little worm.
Folding his wings against his back for a second as the wind picked up and jostled his mane. He gave a loud snort as his anger boiled beneath his skin. "What if I am? What are you going to do about it? Your nothing but a little lessor mare, you have no chance against me if that's what your planning."
His spaded tail snaked behind him in an 's' like fashion before he unfolded his wings. Letting them spread wide as he prepared himself to take flight the moment things got heated. Valar was pretty sure this was not going to be a short meeting and he would have to fight for his meal. But it would be all so worth it. Too long had it been since he had take down a lessor for his meal. It would be all too sweet.

Rose grit her teeth. She had never come across this kind of creature before. Though she had seen a lot in her time, this was new. Strange and different. Was he right? Did she not have a chance against him? No, there had to be something. All her skills were not in vain. Even if today was not the day for her to take him down, she'd make sure he'd never walk the same again. She would escape with her life if things got too tough and come back another day.
His responce was the only answer she needed. The thing was what she had heard of and had come in search of. Now would be the time of truth. Could she truly match skill against his brute strength?
"If your done flapping your gums then come down here and face me. Unless your scared of a little ol' mare." Her bright eyes had a hint of sarcasm as a tiny smirk graced her features.

Eyes glowed with rage at the mare's remark. The challenge had been put out onto the table and he would meet it. Spreading his wings even wider, he descended quickly down the mountain side. Pulling up once he neared the ground and swiftly flew over it. Extending his legs, he moved them in a running motion before they touched the ground and he took off at full speed towards his challenger. Wings folded tightly against his back to reduce resistance and slow him down.
His mouth was opened partially, sharp rows of teeth glinting in the sunlight. Muscles underneath his skin rippled as he charged forward and his tail lashed violently behind him. "So be it! Prepare to die and fill my belly!" As he drew closer, he lunged forward. Teeth aiming for that soft spot in her throat.

His speed was great. And this had surprised her. She didn't think that such a large creature could move so fast. It was almost hard to keep up with how close he was getting and....so fast.
As he lunged at her throat, she furrowed her eyebrows. Ducking her head and sliding out of the way of his attack. Lifting her back leg, she made a quick upper kick, aiming for his neck or the back of his head with her hoof. Either way, she hoped that it would hit. Perhaps it would stun him for just a moment while enabling her to put a bit of distance between them.

Valar growled as his jaws caught nothing but air. The mare was fast, he had to give her some credit. But she was a fool to take him on.
Turning his head quickly to try and catch her again, the side of his face was met with a sharp hoof. The intensity of the kick sent his head rolling as he stumbled sideways for a few steps as he tried to regain focus. It had really sent his brain for a loop. The flesh in his cheek and around his eye had started to inflame quickly. This lessor was different from the one's he had fought before.
Giving his head a few shakes, he soon locked his sights on her again. This time as he charged at her, he zig zagged back and forth. Drawing closer, his body spun around. Dirt rose up around his hooves as he turned. His tail coming out of no where, aiming to give her the same kind of blow as she had given him. The muscles in his long, slender tail tensed to make the impact even more deadlier than a loose tail would have caused.

The mare had tried to put a little distance between them in his time of trying to recover from her blow. But then Rose had been so caught up in his second charge, it took a minute for her to register his sudden body movement. And she caught sight of his tail a minute too late.
Her head snapped to the side as the spaded end of the Kalona's tail hit her cheek. But her body did not move. A large welt quickly formed on her light colored skin, turning it a bright red on the place of impact. Turning her head towards the stallion, she spit out a little blood onto the ground. Looking at it curiously for a second as it lingered amongst the ground. Apparently she had bitten her cheek. The blood left a metallic taste in her mouth.
Dancing a few paces away, she spread her legs. Waiting for his next attack. Her bodies muscles tensing.

The Kalona stood there for a moment. His check burned from all the broken blood vessels. What a delicious burn.
"You fool! Have you not realized yet that you cannot beat me?!" His dark tongue flicking out ran quickly from left to right across his sharp teeth. Valar started to pace back and forth. Accessing the situation. He would have to keep clear of those hooves. The mare seemed very adapt at landing blows with them. There had to be a weakness in her defense, which he carefully looked for. It had to be there.
Letting out a deep growl, he snapped his tail back and forth wildly. The flaming mane he adorned licked against his muscular neck as the wind picked up. Blowing leaves and dust everywhere.

"I might not beat you. But I'll make sure you never walk right again." The mare spat back at him. Her teeth grinding together as she clenched her jaw. The blood flowing into her mouth was not an unfamiliar taste. Many fights she had fought before, especially in training often resulted in blood shed.
Her long tail flicked back and forth as she lifted her head high. Curious as to why the demon had not attacked yet. What was he waiting for? For her to submit? No. She wouldn't. She couldn't. Rose might not have cared much for the poor creatures that fell before this stallion's hooves, but she did care when challenged. And the opportunity for those not of this one's kind to travel as they please.
He was no king, no sovereign, no lord of these lands. You could not claim such a thing unless you had absolute power. But absolute power corrupts absolutely. The mare had seen much of this in her time amongst this world. Snapping her tail violently, she sprang forward. Charging full speed at Valar, her hooves pounding into the earth sounded like thunder.

Flaring his wings, the stallion reared back onto his back legs. Tail snapping back and forth as he let out a deafening roar rumble from his chest. Stepping backwards, still on his back legs. He waited as the mare drew closer.
And quickly she did. Her speed almost matched his. Such an opponent made the thought of killer her all the much sweeter.
Pawing at the air in front of him, soon his body weight shifted and he crashed forward. The ground trembling beneath his massive hoofs.

Rose watched as he fell back to earth. She had tried to get in close, but apparently doing so, she would right her own safety. Leaving herself wide open to attack if she did so.
Turning her body to the side, her ribs received a few dead on kicks from his flailing hoofs. Which nearly knocked the air from her lungs. But she was able to keep her head and tried to scramble away to put the distance between them.
Even with all her skills put together, this would defiantly be a challenge. He was no idiot. And he knew how to fight. Would she really be able to keep her word of not becoming another victim of this demon?

By now, Valarauco had decided that perhaps now was time for a little bit of fun. Enough dramatics, he'd disable her and play for a bit like he often did with all the deer he'd run down.
Arching his neck downwards, he sunk his teeth into the flesh of her exposed thigh. Giving her leg a hard jerk as he ripped his head back. The taste of her sweet blood filling his mouth and running down the back of his throat. Sweet, sweet blood. He had almost missed this. The taste of deer blood and other animal blood was in no comparison to REAL Soquili blood.

"Dam..." Before Rose could finish saying the word, her leg was yanked out from under her. The feeling of torn flesh and the warm trickle of blood down her leg sent a shock through her body. She had left herself too open to attack.
The entire scene seemed to play out in slow motion. Her body fell hard to the ground which this time did knock the wind out of her and she lay there gasping for breath. Searing pain ran up and down her leg and into her spine. It wasn't the worst she had ever felt, but it definitely wasn't the best!
Mustering up all the strength she could, the mare twisted her body around. Of course, this action would probably cause more damage to her leg. With all she could, Rose gave a few sharp kicks with her adjacent hoof to his head. In hopes that he would release her leg so she could at least attempt to scramble away while he tried to gain his senses.
