Don't worry. His mana cost balances him out.

This one might actually be balanced enough to be made. Maybe.

A pretty obvious parody of "Combo Winter."

My answer to stupid abilities like "indestructible." Also good for protection
and shroud.

The following cycle was inspired by spells like "Counterspell" and "Dismal Failure," and by the popular theory that a card is balanced if there's an answer to it. Note what color is the center of attention.

Those cards rock! I would so totally use them in a deck, if I could. Want I should print them out and bring them to show Jaka and Dom next week?

Beers short of a six pack is crazy-good! I think spikes would even use it. reduce the cost by 1 and it would be broken and a half.

I wonder if this Friday is a draft or a type 2 day... I wonder how my old decks will do against the newer cards that came out. Too bad I can't cheatyface Mooby's cards into play during the FNM games.

It's sort of narrow, though. It flatlines in a draft, and would have to be accelerated to instant speed in constructed... and it's not like the accelerator is going to have split second or anything. All this work for what, in most situations, will amount to countering one spell?
Yeah, I don't see Spike using it.

I overlooked the fact that it was a sorcery. Used with Quicken it would be nice though Yeah, as a sorcery it kind of sucks though.

As far as flatlining in drafts, lots of good cards do. Look at Extirpate.

If it were an instant for 1WW spike would use it. It would beat Cancel.

As some of you Magic players are aware, Wizards released this card as a prank in Future Sight:

The Magic rules mentions that contraptions are some sort of artifact. I picked it up from there.

("Contraption" is a subtype of Artifact. A contraption token is an Artifact-Contraption token with the name "Contraption" and no intrinsic rules text. To "assemble a contraption" means to put a contraption into play using the assemble mechanic. Thus, with Steamflogger out, removing the counters puts two tokens into play.)

I made at least one card in every color, plus a couple other characteristic cards to establish the feel of the mechanic.

The idea is that contraptions become a slow-building currency that is used to pay additional costs for a creature ability. Better abilities (example: the Mindslaver ability I used above) would require more than one contraption to activate, while the weaker abilities would require just one. Also, better cards would take longer to make contraptions, making it necessary to play a few cheap guys to swarm artifact tokens out faster.

It's hard to gauge how balanced they'd be, but I'm trying to hit moderately powerful. Also, I'm pretending for a minute that a certain unnamed Extended block doesn't exist to horribly break this artifact engine.

Sadly, Steamflogger has a replacement effect, so multiple copies of him wouldn't act like Doubling Season.

I agree with Blossom, if those cards were real I would totally make a deck out of them.

And power-hungry Slytherin loved those of great ambition...|>
