Planta Grove

View Map

Located in the middle east of Dacaiana, Planta Grove is perhaps the smallest forest on the whole island. But none-the-less, not the least known of visited. Remembered for it's fair weather most of the year and abundance of fruit in the grove, Planta is used to many a traveler. Though for some reason, wolves tend to stay only for short visits, despite it's ideal surroundings. No one really knows why, not even the wolves themselves...

Setting
Across the bay from Bogachith Forest and south of Hir Maen Beach, Planta grove is stuck out on it's own. It's surrounded on most sides by grasslands as far as the eye can see, making the sore thumb of a grove a sort of hidden paradise. The dominant foliage is variations of fruit trees, providing quite a bit of food for the small prey that call this place home.

The grove itself is made up of rows and rows of mostly fruit trees, spreading across an expanse of land, with light shining through the leafy boughs it stays relatively bright walking through. In the direct middle of the grove is a small clearing, in which nothing grows besides grass or the occasional wildflower. From that raised spot of land, wolves can survey the forest from all around.

Weather
The Planta Grove's weather is constant usually for seven months out of the whole year, where as otherwise is varies only slightly. Warm and sunny, the small forest allows a long growing season for it's fruit trees. Rain is frequent in the grove, and may last for days at a time without break, leaving Planta Grove moist and wet for quite a while after.

When fall comes all foliage simply drops off the trees, as if in one stroke, and the trees wither back to be clothed in a light covering of snow for the unusually mild winters.

Prey Animals
When a wolf is living in the grove, food is never far away. But catching it, that's a whole different game. The creatures feeding off of the fruit in the grove are fast, and the seemingly endless rows of trees provide many places to hide, so one must be quick on their paws to catch a meal, with prey such as those below. If a wolf can't catch them, he better get a taste for fallen fruit!:

    ° Rabbits
    ° Squirrels
    ° Deer
    ° Birds

    Rabbits
Ah, this fleet-of-foot meal is most common in the grove, darting from place to place and nibbling on fallen fruit and flowered bushes. The little buggers are tricky to catch, but an experienced wolf has no problem with hunting them. A delicious and good-sized meal in the grove.

    Squirrels
Mostly seen in the treetops, squirrels are harder to catch them than rabbits, especially with so many escape routes via the fruit trees all around. Feasting on bugs, fruit, and even eggs and small creatures at times, these omnivores are a good snack themselves, if you manage to catch one.

    Deer
Deer are sometimes a bit more scarce in the grove, usually congregating in herds in the plains or the edge of the forest. Though winter draws them in closer, allowing them to feast on what's left of the fallen fruit and making it easier to catch. It usually takes several wolves to bring down a buck or large doe.

    Birds
Probably the trickiest to catch because of their flying abilities, their are several varieties in Planta Grove. Ranging from fruit and berry eating birds or crows nesting in the trees to larger birds of prey, such as small hawks or falcons to catch the abundant rabbit and squirrel population, sometimes feasting on a deer kill, they work as both scavengers and hunters. It's very rare for a wolf to catch one.
