There is a chemical in your brain
Let's face it, this woman was the s**t. If you're looking for proof that not all women are spineless and can't do anything, this is the woman to read about.

another great woman in history in my opinion is Elizabeth the first. she had an inner strength that would rival most men. the first *true* female monarch, she proved that a woman could rule just as well if not better than the traditional male monarch. until Elizabeth, it was unheard of for a woman to rule in her own right. and in her 30 years of rule she brought England into it's 'golden age' where it prospered wonderfully.
but on the other hand, she was very selfish of her position and because she refused to marry (for fear of having her power usurped by a man) she wouldve had only bastards had she gotten pregnant. and they didnt look too kindly on bastards back then. I find it hard to believe that she truly was a 'virgin queen', I'm sure she had her share of lovers.. or at least one, whom was shunned by court eventually, but what a scandal she wouldve created had she gotten pregnant.
but despite her shortcomings, she is still a heroine of mine if for nothing else her amazing inner strength and strength of will.

I will have to look up eleanor of aquitaine. I've never heard of her.
Elizabeth the 1st was aaawwwwwwweeeessssssssooooommmmmmmeeeeee!!!!!!! England's navy became a world power under her reign & Britain was never more powerful!
Another incredible woman in history was Boudicca! Her husband left his kingdom jointly to his daughters & the Roman emporer when he died. (His kingdom had been an ally of the Romans) But Romans didn't acknowledge women as airs and took over the lands for themselves. A roman senator had her publically flogged & had her two daughters raped. She rallied up her fellow Britians and led a revolt against the Romans in retailation. Under her command the cities Camulodunum, Londinium, & Verulamium were completely destroyed. Around 800,000 people total were killed in those cities. Sadly, when the roman army finally caught up to her rebels...they were massacred. Her people's armor, weapons, and tactics were nothing in comparison to the romans. PLus the general had picked a startegic location in order to gain a further advantage. According the documentary of her I saw on History Channel it is uncertain of whether or not she & her daughters were killed in that battle. There are no records of them after it & it is assumed she and the girls committed suicide.

What do you all think of the Romanov sisters? I don't know what I think of them. I have a book about Anastasia, and from what it tells, she seems like any normal little girl, except for the fact that her and her family were exceedingly rich.

honestly, I dont know too much about the Romanov sisters. I dont even know their names, just Annastacia. I know that Rasputin supposedly cursed the family before the revolt, and I know that the whole family died or disappeared. and of course I know of the person who came out years later claiming to be the missing Anna. sadly tho, that's about it. but my interest in history doesnt extend too much into the 20th century.

I love Boudicca. she was one gutsy queen. she fought for her cutlure and what she saw as right. sadly she lost in the end, but that was eventually to be expected. what's important is that she really gave the Romans a run for their money. she certainly gained my respect.

Yeah same for me. If it's past medievel ages, then my memory is mostly U.S. History. Though my world history is still okay from then till...19th centuraryish... @ Lilraine I know!!! I wanna find a book on her and nab it. She was awesome! A fantastic role model for females.

I think the four sisters were Anastasia (of course), Olga, Marie, and Tatiana. There was Alexi too, their younger brother. And the family members were shot to death in a house (I forget where.) Most of them were counted dead, except for Anastasia and Tatiana I believe.

In 1914 he was stabbed in the abdoman to the extent that he was slightly disembowled but after intensive surgery he manged to survive. (thought I should mention that unsuccessful assasnation attempt) Two years later he was assinated by a group of rebels led by Prince Felix Yusupov and the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich . And the chain of events of them killing him is actually kind of funny in a synical way. First they laced various desserts and red wine (Rasputin had a sweet tooth) with massive doseages of cynanide. however, he did not die automatically and the group needed to have time to hide the body. So they shot him in the back. The group thought he was dead and left the palace (where this was taking polace). However one of the conspirators came back to check on rasputin and he was not dead. He threw the guy across the room and made a run for it. But the rest of the group arrived at shot him three more times in the back. When they neared him...he tried to get up. So they clubbed him into submission. Still he was not dead. So they tied his body up in a sheet and dumped him into the icy river. His body was found three days later. Here's the kicker, he did not drown. He died of hypothermia. His body was found in an upright position, hinting that he had been clawing at the ice above him in an attempt to get out. And in an autopsy it was declared that the amount of poison in his body should have been enough to kill him. How's that for endurance?! He was majorly poisoned, shot 4 times, clubbed repeatedly, tied up in a sheet, tossed into an icy river...all in one night, and hypothermia is the thing that actually kills him.
