**Begin Chicago Metropolitan Area - 'All I Want for Christmas' **
((Bard's home in Evanston, IL is an upscale townhouse overlooking the lake. It's the 12th of December,1998, and the rooftops of nearby homes are strung with twinkling lights. There's no snow on the ground, though lake-effect flurries dance in the chill winter air. It's just past 6:00 PM, and already dark out.
The interior of Bard's home is warm and inviting. There's a modest gas fireplace along one wall of the den. A plastic Christmas tree lays half erected in a corner of the room, boxes of Chrstmas ornaments are festooned about. Bard always puts the tree up the day after thanksgiving, gets distracted, and never finishes. It's a holiday tradition. ))

*blinks* Did we make it in one piece?

*Maggie appears next to him, wobbling dizzily for a moment*
*she closes her eyes and takes a breath to steady herself, then opens them again, her disorientation from the trip quickly forgotten as she gets a look at her surroundings* Oh . . . good heavens . .
*she spins around in a slow circle, trying to take everything in*

*looks back around the room, still quite amazed* This . . . is your home?

'Tis . . . 'tis amazing . . ! *she moves forward to get a better look at the view, gazing in wonder at the tiny sparkling lights*
*she turns to look at the room again, tilting her head this way and that to see everything, finally settling her eyes on the partially assembled tree, her awe shifting to confusion* Is that . . . a tree?

*Bard looks at the tree as though he'd quite forgotten it was there. (he had.)* Err yes... no... sort of. It's a Christmas tree. We put them up in our homes and decorate them to celebrate the holiday *he can't quite remember if they did this in Maggie's time* They used to use real trees--some people still do--but I use a fake one, because I don't think a holiday is worth chopping down a tree...
At any rate, I always forget to put it together. *smiles sheepishly*

*studies the decorations for a moment before looking around some more, clearly still quite awed by all of it*

...actually, it's nothing like putting together a real tree... but it's still easy. *he points* see? the branches just pop on like this.. *inserts a branch*
