It was a busy day for Graciela. She had been working on a new costume- a fancy ballgown with lots of frills and swoops and ribbons. It was the hardest design she'd ever tackled, and several times she'd come close to sewing the cloth to herself. As it was, the gown was full of uneven stitches and loose threads, but she was still very proud of the work she'd put into it, and ready for a break.
That was what lead her to the river. She sat by the edge, with a mound of cloth and fixings next to her, dangling one pinpricked paw in the waters to cool it off. A lollipop stick poked out of her mouth, and she hummed a cheerful tune through it.

Thalassa had spent a good part of the day playing in the very purple and very grape flavored river. Her coat was too pale to -not- stain so a quick trip home and a lot of soap had set the fur to it’s correct color. The only real problem was that now she felt a bit -too- fluffly. Her hair already had the regular amount of volume of any other Numa.. But now it seemed to make her feel, just bigger. She giggled and flopped under a tree with a squishy cinnamon flavored candy between her paws. The stuff was a treat that she could eat for weeks at a time.
So intent on gnawing off and savoring the head of the cinnamon candy that Thal didn’t notice the other female Numa coming to a tree not far by. So with big round cheeks filled with the spicy candy she began to cough rather unladylike and partially choke. The other hadn’t done anything to startle her.. But other Numas had that effect on her. Bother.

It took Graciela a moment to notice that she wasn't the only Numa in the area. In fact, until she heard coughing sounds she was off in her own world. But when they did break through her bubble she jumped up, spilling sewing materials all around, and looked for the source.
There. A fluffy, pale lady under a tree. Running quickly, she made it over in a few seconds and placed on paw on the stranger's shoulder. "¿Está bien? Are you alright, señorita?"

If it weren’t for the fact that she was already bright red from coughing, Thalassa would have turned a few shades darker. “Oh.. Oh my!” She managed to get her candy swallowed and a few deep, deep breathes had her turning her normal periwinkle blue. The Numa in front of her sure was interesting looking!
Black hair and a fancy dress… Thal had never thought to wear clothes before, “Yes, yes I am alright.” Her voice was soft and the sea green eyes looked down at her hands, feeling rather stupid.

When it looked like things would be okay, Graciela withdrew her paw, putting it to her chest in relief. "¡Dios Mío, I was frightened! But if you are okay, señorita, that is very good."
Once the mild scare was over, she was actually quite pleased to have company. She'd been working by herself all day, and was more than tired of the solitude. While it was tolerable in bursts, she really was a social creature, and her actions reflected this.
"Me llamo Graciela," she said, taking a seat on the ground next to the other Numa. "¿Y tu, señorita? What is your name, if I may ask?" She felt quite comfortable making herself at home, and any unease she might have felt was flowing away. The lady seemed nice enough, at least.

Thal slowly got herself back down to her normal coloring in the face and took another n** at the cinnamon gummy that sat in her lap looking rather pathetic at the moment.
She had been playing all day long and the idea of a nap appealed to the over-fluffed Numa, but talking to others would be more fun and so she smiled and made room for the other Numa to sit comfortably, and sure enough she sat down! This girl had such pretty clothes, it made Thal want to trace the patterns.
.”Thalassa.” She spoke softly as was her habit and put the name -Graciela- into her memory. “It’s nice to meet you.” The Numa had an accent that she’d never heard before and part of Thal wanted to ask and the other part just figured she came from a different background and it made her unique!

Sure enough, her new friend- for surely, this new Numa would have to be a friend- was breathing more easily. Satisfied, Graciela nodded happily. "¡El placer es el mío! It is nice to meet you too, Señorita Thalassa! That is a very pretty name!"
She would have continued, but the other Numa- Thalassa, Graciela repeated in her mind- was so quiet. "¿Es seguro está bien? Are you sure you're alright, Señorita Thalassa?" Maybe she had hurt something while coughing! Or was injured in some other way. How terrible! Graciela nearly leaped to her feet again, but instead remained seated and leaned forward some more.
"¿Usted tiene dolor? Are you hurt? I could get some help, if you like." Or she would stay, for as long as needed. Graciela wanted to make sure that everything was okay before getting down to the fun.

Thalassa smiled once again and enjoyed listening to Graciela speak. She always clarified what she said in something that Thal could understand but it was just.. Fun to hear all the words that only some Numas were able to comprehend.
Thal’s ears flicked back and forth a bit and she mentally checked herself to be sure that she was okay. After all, lying to a new friend wasn’t acceptable and it would be good to know that even after so much choking and coughing she was fine. “Yes, I am fine.” Her voice was still quiet but with more certainty so neither of them would have to wonder if it was actually true.
“Oh no.. I hardly even choked.” Talking easily and earnestly because it wouldn’t do for someone to think she was hurt. Thal smiled at Graciela and questioned rather hesitantly, “Where.. Did you get your pretty dresses?”

Graciela wasn't entirely convinced, but decided to let it slide. She would just have to keep an eye out to make sure that this lady didn't overexert herself. Instead she nodded. "I am glad that you are okay!"
Her attention turned to her dress- something that many Numas commented on, since there were relatively few who dressed up as she did- and blushed slightly. She wasn't embarrassed, but it did make her self conscious from time to time. "Era un regalo- it was a gift, a long time ago. Pero..." she paused, wondering whether to continue. Then she spotted the dress she had abandoned and smiled sheepishly. "I added some details. El otro, the other one, I am making. Would you like to see?"
Part of her wanted to show off all of her hard work, and the rest was hoping a fresh set of eyes would be able to point out her flaws. Either way, it would help to have someone else take a look.

Thalassa had a feeling that the other Numa was just being nice to her and she would have to spend a bit of time being more at ease. Yes, people weren’t her best subject but she liked to be around them!
The blush on Gracie’s face made Thal want to feel bad. Whenever she got put onto the spot about whatever little issue it always took her a really long time to not feel like she was just a dummy or something similar to that. When the Numa used the unusual words she tried to store them into her mind. A regalo was a gift and pero was.. But? That made some sense but she might just be guessing again. “Oh yes! Or is it Si?” She blushed, using the foreign word, “I am sure that your work is very lovely.”
No matter what, Thal knew it’d be hard for her to say anything about the dress that wasn’t entirely complimentary because being too harsh would make the pretty Numa stop working on her hobby.

"¡Sí! Muy bien," Graciela exclaimed, clapping. It made her so happy when other people knew Spanish, or tried understanding it. She could speak in English fluently too, but she felt that if she did both, maybe other people would pick up on it. Knowing two languages was quite useful, and allowed her to communicate with all sorts of people. It was wonderful, all in all.
Taking Thalassa's arm lightly, Graciela started towards the edge of the river, where she had abandoned her work. It was still in the beginning stages, more a pile of fabric than a garment, and what work had been done on it was uneven and messy. It was hard to hold a needle in paws, but Graciela made do and was slowly starting to improve. Shaking out a part, she held it up. "This is the... the body? The part that goes here," she added, touching her chest. She wasn't too clear on dressmaking terms yet. "I'm trying to add lace here," she continued, running one paw over the collar, "pero... es muy difícil. It is difficult."
