My opinion on feminism. In the 1900s it was a big movement. We women became equal to men. Now, I don't understand the feminist movement. What more could women have? We are equel. We can have any job and duty that men have and vice versa. Yes, there are stereotypes but there will always be stereotypes about every life culture, ethinicity and gender. Yes, there is sexual harrassment but that's why women can go to court and have a lawyer.
I am a women and I don't understand a lot of people in this thread.

Why stop working towards equality? It doesn't do any harm and has many benefits. There is still a long way to go before we can become totally equal.

I never said that sexism doesn't exist. There will always be sexism just as there will always be racism.

Women are paid less for a job that a man does, I've heard that we earn 75 cents for every dollar a male earns. And the idea that women are to stay at home is still alive. Women may seem to be treated equally, but there are still traces of sexism everywhere.

Whether you agree with it or not, women do expect men to be courteous to women. If we were completely equal, that whole thing wouldn't happen anymore and Men would be as courteous to women, as they are to other men. Chances are, most women will not agree with such behaviour, causing problems between men and women again. Its a really hard situation, because not every woman agrees with feminism, and complete male/female equality. And thats always going to rear its head and cause problems.

Whenever me and my boyfriend have the same job we always get paid the same so I really don't know where you have heard that. All of my friends who work in large places as clerks and whatnot, tell me that they get the same pay so I have no idea where you heard this from.

Also, not all women choose to work. My mother stays at home. She has no desire to have a full time job.

All of my friends who work in large places as clerks and whatnot, tell me that they get the same pay so I have no idea where you heard this from. Well the fact of the matter is, alot of people still don't get payed equal. Not for just clerks and such, any kind of job. A good read on the subject is in the book 'The Capitalist System'. Alothough it was written in the '70s, alot of the things in it are still relevent. They have a whole section dedicated to Capitalism's effect on women. I read one story that told of a women who worked at an IMB office. She tells of being oggled during the interview. The income of the males was about $15,000. A women would make around $6,000. She also tells of the times she tried to take her lunch to the park at lunchhour. One time when she went, she was asked to come to a hotel with some stranger. Another day a man masturbated behind her in the bushes. On every occasion she was told that different parts of her body were 'really fine'. And yes this was written in the '70s, alot of things have changed and improved greatly. But some of the things are still around. And mabye your right, mabye they will never go away. But getting people more aware of their rights, not just as a women, but as a human being, can't hurt. Quote: Also, not all women choose to work. My mother stays at home. She has no desire to have a full time job. And that to me is feminism. It's choice.

The Femisnist movement is not about the early days of the movement in the sixties with the counter culture, burn your bras attitude. It is not about getting all women to go to work and leave the man at home with the chioldren or in daycare. It is about choice. Women must have the right to either go to work or stay at home. And despite what you may think, equality has not been achieved by men and women. In political issues, yes the genders are equal. The problem now has to do with the attitude of women. They need to know that there is another life opposite to that of a stay at home mom and vice versa. They need to know hat they have a choice and they shouldn't be degraded because of that choice.
