What a b***h! She should go burn in hell! DX
Eh, could do without her, but don't mind her presence. :/

At risk of getting brutally kicked out of this guild, I must ask nevertheless. Yes, I enjoy reading your I-hate-kairi-what-a-b***h stuff cuz it's funny and true, but isn't it a little over the edge? I don't see how you could hate a video game character who seems largely inoffensive...
What drives people so up the wall about her, a silly video game character invented to off-set a largely male-dominated cast of characters? (Besides also probably being put in to avoid getting Disney sued for making Sora blatantly gay.)

I suppose... it's not really Kairi herself that really drives me up the wall, though she has that personality that I just can't stand. stare Anyways, what I don't like is so many people saying 'OMG Sora and Riku aren't gay cuz Kairi's there!'

Just 'cause a woman has boobs and wears short pink dresses doesn't mean everyone loves them. There are no real cannon pairings, so SoKai or RiKai ISN'T REAL.

Sorry about the rant-like quality... Just had to get that out of me.

Because she gets in the way. Naturally people are going to despise her. I don't hate her but...she's too nice and it's unnerving; that's probably another reason...

I acutally like Kairi. But I know why most people hate Kari:

Hayden Panettiere's voice is not JUSTICE.

I. Effin. Hate. Her. Voice. If they had gotten a different girl to play Kairi, Kairi would have a lot more fans. Her voice is, first of all, too high. She also doesn't sound near as stressed as a girl who has been through all that ought too.

Just my opinion. But there would still be fangirls who hate Kairi no matter how amaing a girl they got for her just because she "gets in the way of Riku and Sora", even though it's perfectly legit for same-sex couples to have friends of the opposite sex... stare

You're also right about getting in trouble for making Sora blatantly gay, although the games can be seen as an analogy for Sora's rejection (KH1) and finally acceptance (KH2) of his own bisexuality, which makes Kairi really important. I think. PM me if you want me to try and explain it.

I don't *hate* Kairi, she's just not my favorite.

I think that she's mainly there to keep the homophobes at bay. (Even though you can see right threw it.)

Most people seems to have her because she 'pulls Sora and Riku apart'. When in fact, she reunited them. If any of you remember, when Riku was still all darkness-ish and looked liked Xehonort (Heartless), Kairi was the one that showed Sora that it was really him.

I mean, she gets annoying, but Sora annoys me at times too. Even though the game is fictional, they still had to give the characters some humanistic qualities.

She just annoys me because of the facts:

Her voice is very irritating after playing the game a while.
She a Mary-Sue, or a perfect girl character.
She isn't a Keyblade Master, and she gets a keyblade--that ticked me off big time. (it's the prettiest-looking keyblade... crying )
She reminds me of a girl I really don't care for in my life. >.<'

That's about it.

She's perfect, that's why.
I like characters with flaws, thanks.

At least with Namine she was so abused and depressed you felt bad for her.
Kairi? Not so much.
She's supposed to 'have no darkness in her heart'.
Sure.

I think that the soul reason why Kairi was put in the game in the first place was to simply make the whole Sora-Riku thing innocent.

I work for Disney so I know a lot about these sort of schemes.

Okay, we can all tell that Sora REALLY has a thing for Riku. However, both Disney and Square Enix want to keep a good image, so they stick a girl in it and fix the story line so that it would be that both Riku and Sora are wanting Kairi. This would give the "Good Boy" "Good Girl" straight image that gives parents the security of allowing their children to play the game with out any fear of encouraging same sex couples.

But of course, we all know better...

Now in KHII, Kairi is all but (though really was) forgotten, because Sora is so fixated on finding Riku. AGAIN, if Disney or Square Enix were to explain this, it would be because Sora knows that Kairi is safe on the Islands so he doesn't have to worry about her and he promised he'll come back with Riku.

Now, picture the scene when Sora finally sees Kairi. Kairi goes for him in a hug. I'll admit, it was a very sweet scene (then again, I'm straight with a yaoi fettish, so it works both ways for me). Sora looks awkwardly suprised by this action, but not wanting to hurt her feelings, hugs her back. Now use this in comparison when he is reunited with Riku. Sora holds his hand, falls to his knees, and starts saying how much he was looking for him in tears. Innocent? I don't think so. And in the ending scene, it was the combination of Sora and Riku's hearts, not Sora and Kairi's, that defeated Xemnas and find their way home.

This gives the subliminal message (that only we fan girls/guys can seem to see) that Riku is meant to be with Sora, not Sora to be with Kairi. If it was to be Sora and Kairi, Riku would've been made a more of a minor character, and gave Kairi more importance instead of just finding her and taking her home. I think that Sora tried much harder to find Riku than he did Kairi.

WHEW! That was a lot. sweatdrop Sorry for the uber long post. If anyone wants to go into this in more detail, feel free to PM me. In another guild I'm the Head of Intelligence for KH, so I can give you any and all info you need. ^_^

I fully agree with everything you just said. I really like the subliminal message thing they're doing.

Rock--

I'm not really a Kairi basher. I just happen to enjoy the SoRiku pairings a bit more. >.> I don't exactly have anything against her in the game...

well personally I'm not a kairi basher, but this is a yaoi guild and I guess if nobody has anything better to do than yeah, there's gonna be some girl (not just kairi) bashing.

I dont hate kairi, there are just things that happened to revolve around her that annoyed me to the core.

1. She isnt a keyblade master, and yet she gets one anyway.

2. She is too perfect, and not many people like it when someone is perfect, which means she has no drama that could happen, that would make her intrest me.

But, unlike Kairi, Namine had something to intrest me. Namine went against the word of Marluxia ((In CoM)) and Diz ((In KH2)) Just to make sure someone was okay, at the risk of being killed, I know kairi did it to, but the way she did it and the way Namine did it was diffrent, I cant explain it, exactly.

But then again I dont mind at all, she can be there because she is there their friend anyway. I really think that she would be the friend to root them on and stand up for them if someone said something mean.

Example: Say if someone said "They are gay and I dont like them." I see Kairi standing up ((If sora and riku arent there)) And giving the person one hell of a talking too, but thats just what I think.

But, my favorite pairing is AkuRoku mrgreen

got nothing against her. And if she wouldn't have been there in the ending scene of KH2 it wouldn't have been so sweet. However she DO have a thing for running away and getting herself in trouble.

I think it's probably for the same reason that a lot of female characters get bashed: she was created primarily to serve as a romantic interest. This means that she was designed to be pretty, inoffensive, and just spunky enough not to resemble a cardboard cutout. It's a variety of sexism that you'll see a lot across multiple genres and mediums of entertainment. Male main characters and even secondary characters are given independent personalities and existences while female characters often exist almost as accessories to their male counterparts. They aren't meant to be real people, just things to be fought for and obtained. Because of this role and the way they're created, many people find such characters inherently unlikable, even if they have a hard time pinpointing why.

That's my thought, anyway.

I've been trying to learn to like Kairi more recently, because I was feeling really frustrated with her lack of character development in the game. So, I've been writing short fics for myself to help me think about her character. Does she ever remember the fall of her world that preceded her arrival on Destiny Island? That would be worth a few nightmares. Is she ever frustrated by her own weakness and her inability to protect her friends as they protect her? I suppose I want to give her character the depth and complexity that the game denied her.
