The forest was almost still, this time of night. The only sounds were of small nocturnal creatures and insects. The only light came from the moon and stars that shone down on the unconscious figure of a silver-coated stallion slumped against a tree. He stirred faintly now and again, his breathing soft and shallow. Blood dripped slowly from a gaping wound in his shoulder, and a hitch in his breath spoke of cracked or broken ribs.

A cold chill ran down Amara's body. Truely, it was a strange feeling for the mare to experience for she was not one to feel absolute dread, except for that one time with those stallions. The dark colored mare stepped along the ground with care, haveing one of those moments where she wished she could blend into the environment better.

A familiar scent brought the mare's black hooves to a sudden hault as the familiar acidic smell of blood filled Amara's nose. "Wha?" Shaking her head, the mare tried to get her head back on track and the smell out of her mind. "Someone's bleeding?" Unsure of what she would find, Amara proceeded forward where the scent was strongest. Slowly, her red eyes opened in horror at the grey figure before her. "Helaku!"

"Uhhh?" Stirring slightly at the sound of a voice, Helaku's ears drifted forward a little. "A...mara?" The words were an effort, and his ears drooped as he tried not to slide back into a faint from blood loss. He was already weak from losing the amount of blood that he had, and his thinking was fuzzy. He wasn't sure that he could get up right now, even if his life depended on it.

The mare carefully made her way to the stallion, the wounds that he suffered were agonizing to see. "Don't tell me you got into a fight with a kalona." Amara dared not to approach the stallion too closely for his wounds looked terrible. From the gaping wound in the shoulder to all the other various small cuts, it was almost unbearable for the mare to see. "Is there anything I can do for you Helaku? There has to be someone I can find that can help you!" Poor Amara was becoming desperate. She didn't want the incident with Hisa to repeat itself again, not on her watch.

"Not kalona...but...a monster...all the same," Helaku managed, whimpering at his painfully protesting ribs. "He shouldn't...have been here." He laid his ears back weakly at the memory. Given the choice, he would have done it again with one change: look out for that damn tree! "Don't know anyone..."

"For the love of the gods!" Amara came closer to Helaku but took care to remember his dislike of mares. Still, something like that shouldn't matter right now. "Helaku, don't talk. By the look of things it seems like you might have injured your ribs. Talking is only going to make it worse." Having a human companion who was familiar with healing actually paid off for once... "Can you try to settle yourself on the ground or would that strain you too much?"

Helaku tried to shift from the position he had collaped into, but fell back with a barely-muffled curse. Dear gods, but his ribs hurt! He wanted nothing more than to just lay his head down and sleep it off; however, he knew that wasn't about to happen. He'd slept all this time without much improvement... "Don't think so."

"Don't strain yourself anymore. Stay where you are." Amara didn't like the look of things. She knew that Helaku desperately needed healing but she dared not go off and leave Helaku alone, no matter how capable he was. In his current condition the stallion probably wouldn't have been able to fend off a small rabid squirrel. Amara kept the thought to herself... The rabid squirrel image made her unexpectedly more anxious then earlier.

"Helaku, is there anything I can do for you? I'm not going to leave you alone to suffer like this!" Amara's muzzle had come in close contact to Helaku's unknowing to the mare. She was worried to death about the stallion. Whether it was love or not, she deeply cared for him.

"Find someone..." Helaku rested his chin on the ground, breathing shallowly but trying to rest still. In his pain he barely noticed Amara's muzzle near his, but notice he did. But he wasn't ready...not yet, and especially not in this wounded state. So he did nothing, at least on that front. She needed to find someone, so he could move again. He figured that he'd be in for a slow recovery otherwise. "These woods...usually safe." The brush rustled, revealing a small golden-tabby wolf who whined at the sight of her bond. Helaku smiled wearily at the sight. "Mai, I'll be okay..." He looked back at Amara. "She'll come...get you if..."

A pained look crossed over the mare's face but she simply backed off and nodded. Her red eyes stared down at the small fox by Helaku and a greater sorrow bubbled up from inside her. "All right... But I'll be back soon!" The mare turned swiftly to face the woods. "Mai right?" Amara asked the fox. "Please take care of Helaku!" Soon, dark hooves beat against the earth as the mare raced into the darkness to find help. There had to be someone... anyone!

"Alright..." Helaku's voice was tight with the pain that he couldn't avoid no matter how subtly he tried to shift around. A surprising rush of worry washed over him as Amara fled into the night. That...beast could still be around somewhere, lurking. Little did the silver stallion know that Plague had his own problems to deal with at the moment. He closed his eyes, waiting with Mai tightly curled against his back.

An azure blue mare sparkled and glimmered in the starlight as she picked her way through the forest with her tufted tail swaying behind her. Her ears swiveled around constantly, on alert for any danger. That was Tear's way...it seemed she was always either overly guarded, or so lost in her own thoughts that she would have to stumble into something to notice it. Such as now, when a dark stranger charged through the underbrush. Squealing, Tear reared up, silver hooves flashing. "Who are you? What do you want?" she demanded, brandishing her gleaming horn.

Amara's mind was in a full panic. Her body was covered in sweat and she was breathing hard. The sudden shrill sent the mare into another complete panic. Amara's hooves slammed into the earth and she turned her body in a swift motion to face the sound, as if she were trained to be a war horse. He eyes were filled with fear and worry. Helaku did not have much time. "Ah...." Eyes eyes starred up at the gleaming horn in momentary wonder but quickly turned look into the eyes of the mare. "I-I-I-I-I'm very sorry!" Amara was still catching her breath. "I didn't mean to scare you! Its just, I have someone who is very dear to me and he's badly injured. I'm not sure what to do, I..." The mare looked down as her body became shaken with grief and worry.

Indefinable thoughts whirled within Tear's mind as her nostrils flared to catch the strange mare's scent. Afraid...this can't be good. Under normal circumstances, the unicorn mare would have refused. Blood fed her instabilities, undermined her sanity, sabotaged her control. She'd left more than one corpse behind in her earlier days...corpses of those she had meant to heal.

But she wasn't about to stand by knowing that another could be dying. "Show me."

"Ah..." The mare was unsure f the unicorn's eyes. Something about them seemed... dark... not in the bad sense but... a terrible memory perhaps? With firm eyes Amara looked at the unicorn and bowed her head. "Please. Help him." With a turn of her hooves, the mare faced the direction she came from. "This way!" Amara's dark hooves hit the earth as she began to move towards Helaku's location.

Tear raced along just behind Amara, keeping up easily with the natural speed of her kind. Her sleek hide rippled as silver hooves drove into the earth, propelling her forward. It didn't take long until she spotted the prone form of the stallion slumped against a tree. She slowed, pale eyes inspecting the damage as she came near. "What's wrong?" she asked, uncaring of which Soquili answered. The shoulder wound was obvious, but internal wounds were harder to detect and could be just as deadly.

Helaku's eyelids fluttered open at the sound of a double set of hooves returning. Amara had found help, then. It was hard to miss the unicorn soaked in azure and slashed with silver, all sparkling like that. He grinned weakly at the question. "You can...see one problem..." He winced as his ribs twinged at the effort of speaking. "Chest...is the other."
