Personally I hate the new ones. It's a mockery of the originals. The old ones were full of wit, while the new ones are filled with bad jokes. I lost all my respect for them when I saw the (extra long) episode where they kept farting. That is not the Doctor Who that I know and love.

Can't say anything about the old ones, I've never seen them, but I love the new ones.

How can you not like the new ones?! eek New and improved Daleks/Cybermen/the Master, refrences to the old series, brilliant scripts, you name it. But yeah the old series was awesome! mrgreen

Although there are some elements to the new show I dislike, on the whole I think they're okay. No worse than McCoy's first season, at least. Some of the scripts could have used a little more work to remove glaring plot holes and the overuse of cheap fixes (usually involving the sonic screwdriver and/or some previously unknown aspect of the TARDIS). But, yeah, you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have... whatever. razz

The classic series had some really great stories, but also more than a few duds, so it's not like they're all great. I just finished rewatching Davison's debut in Castrovalva, and not only was it a boring story, but the whole idea that the Master would set up this elaborate trap when there would have been much easier and more efficient ways to off the Doctor just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Plus, Tegan's early habit of throwing in airline references for no apparent reason was just plain corny.

Well there both good in my opinion. Yes the Slitheen fart jokes were juvenile.
The old series had the doctor travelling not just to diffrent times but diffrent planets. The new series is pretty much time travel and revolves around earth which to me is kinda boring. I wish the doctor would take his companions to a diffrent planet and just once have an episode like the old episodes.

It's true, the old show was corney, the new show needs some more "Not earth" adventures, but overall I think they both rock out loud. I mean yeah, every once in a while there are really bad plots but for the most part, the new series rocks.

However, as a mega fan of the old series, I still love the new one. I mean, we have a limited amount of episodes from the old, so I think that any Doctor who fan who doesn't want to see more of the doctor, is living in the past, and will never know about all the Doctor's new adventures.

For me, it's a matter of length/pace. The older series had stories of 3 to 7 episodes with a very few longer than that (14, 12, and 10). That is more fun for me. Even in the season when the Sixth Doctor had all 45-minute episodes, they were all two or three episodes. Some of the old ones (i.e. "Delta and the Bannermen") were a bit much for me, though. However, the new series just seems too fast for me, though I like something like The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, which is two episodes and is fun. I just can't keep the pace that well for too long. I still like to watch the new series when I can, though.

As a long standing fan of the show (20 years next year), I can honestly say that both classic and current series are brilliant. True, there have been some dodgy ones in both, but you get that with any show. I can, however, understand why some people might demonstrate preferences.

I've been generally enjoying the new series, but the old Doctors are still my favorites. You didn't get all this bad fanfic-like hurt/heal garbage like we've seen this series (seems like at least half the episodes do something agonizing to the Doctor that make him scream his head off or something), and he was on his own because he WANTED it that way, none of this guilt and loneliness.

I love reading Past Doctor novels, but I haven't a flicker of interest in any of the new series novels. I think that says it all.

I guess I prefer the older series really, I mean sure they had crappy sets and really bad special effects and low budgets, ... but it was still awesome, the characters were all crazy and cool, so many good quotes, interesting creatures and enemies... everything that a good sci-fi needs.

Not saying the new series lacks that, but... I just think they could do a better job, there are just a few episodes that I find just an insult to doctor who (the shakespeare code, love and monsters etc) and then just bits of the new episodes I don't really like... I mean, I like Tennant as a Doctor but... well how do you explain it? the new series just kind of lacks something the old series had, I think.

... just things like walking scarecrows... playing the organ in the church to kill lazurus...

I mean they had bad things like that in the old series but it was easy to overlook/ enjoy them because its old sci-fi, the new series doesn't have that easy excuse.

I think the new series has done amazing justice to the old series, you can't judge the hole thing on two episodes that had some crude jokes in them, judge them on all the good episodes like the unquiet dead, Dalek, Fathers day, The empty child/the doctor dances, Bad wolf/the parting of the ways, the christmas invasion, tooth and claw, The girl in the fireplace, Rise of the cybermen/the age of steel, The impossible planet/the satan pit, The runaway bride, Smith and jones, the lazarus experiment, Human nature/the family of blood, Blink and Utopia/The sound of drums/The last of the timelords.

I really do love the new series. I think they did an amazing job breathing life back into my first sci-fi love.

The old series, however, will always win for me. No Doctor will ever out-Doctor Tom Baker. Not since I first saw him when I was 5 in his first ep, Robot. xd 30 years ago for anyone who's counting. lol

Classic-love! heart Tom Baker is the Doctor for me, but the rest are great also. I'm currently watching all of classic Who in order, so the old ones are definately growing on me. I'm up to Planet of the Daleks (3rd).

The new series is just not the same. I kinda think of it as a different show in order not to scream at my TV when they make stuff up or get it wrong. Companions are not love interests!!! I'm so glad that Doctor Who is back and I know it just wouldn't make it the way it used to be so I'm happy with the way they are keeping it going. Oh, and I love Torchwood and Captain Jack.

Sorry, but, erm...
LOL WUT
Particularly the cybermen bit. That made me lol. You have seen them, right? It's like asking who's scarier, Mickey Mouse(new cybermen btw) or the cyborg midwives in System Shock 2(old cybermen btw). No matter how creepy Mickey Mouse is, the cyborgs are just plain TERRIFYING.
