races:
Human:
Humans are the most numerous and dominant species, with apparently millions of major and minor colonies galaxywide.
Star Wars humans are mostly biologically identical to real-life humans, the exception to this being the presence of midi-chlorians (microscopic life-forms that communicate with the Force) residing in their cells.
bothan:
Bothans[Boe'thenz] are a race mentioned in Return of the Jedi; it is said many of them died in order to retrieve the Death Star II plans for the rebels. They specialize in the use of surveillance equipment, bomb disposal, ion-based weapons and silenced weapons such as needler carbines and bladed weapons. Their physique is therefore ideal for spying; as a result, covert ops and political machinations have always been valued in their culture. Indeed, Bothan space has become almost a neutral zone, as species all over the galaxy hire members of the Bothan "spynet" to uncover information and sabotage enemy projects.
Mon Calamari:
The Mon Calamari are an amphibious race from the planet Dac (The planet is called "Mon Calamari" by humans). They are humanoid, about 1.7m tall, and are most commonly seen with salmon-colored skin (though their skin may have other tones as well, including blue, dark blue, green, and purple) and a lobster-like, domed head with large eyes. They are shore dwellers, but like to be close to water, and can breathe under water if necessary, being able to descend to depths of 30 or so meters without equipment. They share their home planet with the Quarren. Their name is a reference to the close resemblance of their heads to Calamari (squid). Mon Calimari tend to prefer modern Republic style clothing, while the Quarren wear more traditional robes.
Rodian:
The Rodians are born hunters; they killed most of the wildlife and grew restless with the lack of creatures and began to hunt each other in gladiatorial combat, until the Republic found them.
Many continued to hunt as bounty hunters; the most notable specimen was Greedo, the bounty hunter shot by Han Solo in the Mos Eisley cantina in the original Star Wars movie A New Hope.
Trandoshan:
Trandoshan are large, reptilian humanoids from the planet Trandosha (or Dosha), they have supersensitive eyes that can see into the infrared range and the ability to regenerate lost limbs. They also shed their skin.[citation needed] The Trandoshans are a warlike species who allied early with the Empire and the Confederacy during the Clone Wars, taking Wookiees as slaves. They are the natural enemies of Wookiees, and both Wookiees and Trandoshans keep each other's skin pelts as prizes.
Twi'lek:
Twi'leks have skin that comes in a vast variety of colors, and two tentacles called lekku (singular lek) protruding from their heads. The name "Twi'lek" means "twin lekku." Part of the brain grows into the base of the lekku, and the width of the tails is proportional to the girth of each Twi'lek. Often the lekku will sport a pattern of spots, circles, or stripes in a different color from that of their skin, though these could be tattoos. Such "head-tails," or "worms," as they are called by others, are used for thinking and communication as well as sensual pleasure. Twi'leks are naturally completely hairless, except for their eyebrows. Known Twi'lek skin colors include white, green, blue, gray, red, orange, brown, yellow, and purple. The rarest are the red-skinned Lethans, followed by the blue-skinned Rutians. Green is the most common skin color.
Wookiee:
Despite their fearsome and savage countenance, Wookiees are intelligent, sophisticated, loyal and trusting. Loyalty and bravery are near-sacred tenets in Wookiee society. When peaceful, Wookiees are tender and gentle. Their tempers, however, are short; when angered, Wookiees can fly into a berserker rage and will not stop until the object of their distemper is sufficiently destroyed.
iridonian:
The Iridonians are humanoids whose most distinctive feature is the array of small horns on top of their heads. Their home planet is Iridonia, though they have established many colonies on planets throughout the galaxy. Their crown of horns typically grow in at puberty, and are considered secondary sex characteristics. The pattern in which these horns grow differs between Iridonian races (i.e. subspecies).
Iridonian skin coloration can range from the rare pure white or pure black, to the more common shades of cream, peach, tan, and brown in between. Unlike humans, Iridonian skin color is not analogous to race. Rather it is a matter of genetic dominance and recessiveness, such as with the Ewok species, whose fur comes in various colors or patterns.
Iridonians can be completely bald or fully-haired. Again, it is analogous to race/subspecies. Certain horn patterns are linked with certain hair patterns (or baldness). Hair can be any of the same colors seen in the human species. However, unlike humans, Iridonians males do not have eyebrows and do not grow facial hair. There is also a different pattern of horns for each gender. The horns on the female are more directed to the front of the head, while the most commonly seen males have them spanned across their head.
Iridonian eye colors are often similar to the eye colors of humans, with blues and browns being the most common. Yellow, purple, red, green, and orange eyes are seen regularly. It should be noted however, that Darth Maul's red-yellow eye color was apparently the result of corruption by the Dark Side (Similar to Darth Vader).
Iridonians also traditionally have facial tattoos, typically composed of a pattern of thin lines - which is considered the most traditional of Iridonian tattoos. In certain cases these tattoos can be quite elaborate (Maul's extensive black tattoo was actually a Sith tattoo, not a traditional Iridonian tattoo), but most Iridonians tend to be conservative with their designs. It is unclear what these designs signify. They may indicate which family the Iridonian belongs to, where they grew up, or they may well be just a matter of personal preference on the part of the Iridonian.
class:
Fringer - A class representing those who live in the far reaches of the galaxy, they're good at learning new things and fixing broken objects. Examples include both Anakin and Luke Skywalker prior to their Jedi training.
Noble - Similar to the aristocrat class from Dungeons & Dragons and the noble class from the Dragonlance Campaign Setting. The noble focuses heavily on diplomacy as well as calling in much needed favors for the group. Examples include Princess Leia and Queen Amidala, as well as Senator Bail Organa.
Scoundrel - Very similar to the rogue class, the scoundrel fits right in when things need to be "acquired." Examples include Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Dash Rendar.
Scout - Similar to the ranger class, the scout is an excellent addition to any group. Examples include Chewbacca and Booster Terrik.
Soldier - The soldier is the fighter of Star Wars, and can specialize in many different roles, from fighter pilot to foot soldier. Examples include Kyle Katarn and Jango Fett.
Tech Specialist - A character adept at using technology and repairing broken equipment. Examples include Chewbacca and R2-D2.
Force Adept - A person who is Force-sensitive, but who has not received formal training. Possibly believes that the Force is magical in nature. The Witches of Dathomir are a prime example.
Jedi Consular - Consulars possess great knowledge of the Force but rarely enter physical combat. Consulars are the primary scholars and diplomats of the Order, often becoming instructors. Yoda is an example of this type, and in the Expanded Universe, Jorus C'Baoth and even Leia are considered such.
Jedi Guardian - Guardians focus on martial training and combat. They usually engage in combat more than any other Jedi class. Like all Jedi, they are keepers of the peace, acting as a kind of special police force for the Republic. Notable guardians include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, and, in the Expanded Universe, Kyle Katarn and Anakin Solo.
lightsaber forms:
Form I: Shii-Cho
Younglings, the Jedi initiate rank, first learn Form I before they begin a Padawan apprenticeship with a Jedi Master. Younglings are taught Shii-Cho first because of its simplicity and versatility. Sometimes called the ideal form, Form I uses horizontal side-swipes and parries made with the blade of the lightsaber held upright to push the point of an enemy's blade away during a side-to-side attack. If the attack is a downward slash aimed at the head, Form I simply reversed the motion, with a horizontally-held lightsaber being moved up and down to deflect a blow. All the basic ideals of attack, parry, target zones, and practice drills were created with the Form I style. This style of lightsaber combat is not useful against multiple strikes because it only works as a basic guide for lightsaber combat.
Form II: Makashi
After Form I's proliferation as a saber combat technique, Form II came about as a means of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. It is described as being very elegant, powerful, and requiring extreme precision, allowing the user to attack and defend with minimal effort, while his opponent tires himself out.
Form III: Soresu
Form III, the most defensive of all of the forms, was developed to counteract the advancing blaster technology throughout the galaxy. However, Soresu's same dedication to defense and minimal bodily exposure also decreases the lightsaber's threat range.
Form IV: Ataru / Ataro
The master practitioners of Form IV make extensive use of acrobatic maneuvers often thought physically impossible without the aid of the Force. Ataru practitioners are at a great disadvantage if fighting in a small area. This weakness became apparent in The Phantom Menace, when Qui-Gon Jinn was killed by Darth Maul in a confined space. Yoda, however, practiced Form IV with such speed that, when coupled with his small size, left every point on an opponent's body open to attack while more than adequately defending himself.
Form V: Shien / Djem So
It is believed that Shien and Djem So both fall under the category of Form V, much like Juyo and Vaapad are both Form VII, with Shien better at dealing with blaster bolts and Djem So better at blade-to-blade combat. It can be described as a mix of medieval swordmanship and kendo.
Among the many unique aspects of Form V was the development of techniques in which the lightsaber was used to deliberately deflect a blaster bolt directly back at the firer
Form VI: Niman
The basic philosophy of Niman is "the leaf swept in the winds of the force". One who uses this form attains a mindset of one who is not peturbed by their surroundings, but rides the currents of the surrounding chaos, being harmonious and balanced within. It is a style of balance. The style has a surprisingly low chance of deflecting blaster bolts, lower than any form.
The result is that the users' skill in each individual areas of lightsaber combat is only moderate, making Form VI well-suited for diplomats and consulars, as they can spend their time training in the areas of politics, negotiation and Force mastery instead of combat training. It can be affectionately referred to and known as a sort of "Jack of All Trades" form, with mastery of no one aspect of combat, but competency in all.
Form VII: Juyo / Vaapad
In the Jedi world, the form known as Juyo (numbered VII) was an oddity for millennia. Abandoned for many generations of Jedi, Jedi Master Mace Windu later created his Vaapad fighting style to replace Juyo as the 7th Jedi form. Vaapad is named for a multi-tentacled beast which can strike its foes many times simultaneously. Anybody who views an initiate of this style will witness many lightsaber strikes that appear simultaneous. The most challenging and demanding of all forms, Form VII requires intense focus, high levels of skill, and mastery of other forms. Vaapad is able to take the hatred, anger and rage of the opponent and reflect it back at him. In his fight with Palpatine, Mace Windu used Palpatine's own speed and hatred against him, reflecting it back against the Sith Lord and using it as his own power. To use it required great mastery, discipline and, above all else, purity of heart and spirit. Vaapad users are intense, focused, and introverted; there are even signs of pent-up hostility in them.
lightsaber types:
Dual-phase
The dual-phase lightsaber is any lightsaber constructed to operate at two different blade lengths.
Short
There are also variant lightsabers with shorter handles and blades (known as short lightsabers or lightdaggers or shotos) that can be wielded as offhand (weaker hand) secondary weapons. These are for Jedi who fight with two lightsabers for the dual-bladed lightsaber combat style Jar'Kai, which is used by Ancient Jedi Master Kavar and fallen Jedi Sora Bulq or as the primary lightsaber of a small Jedi like Yoda, Yaddle or (presumably) Even Piell.
Double-bladed
The double-bladed lightsaber, saberstaff, doublesaber, sith lightsaber, battlestaff, staff saber or lightstaff, is a variant in which the handle is about twice the length of a standard lightsaber and has two beam emitters; one at each end.
Electrum
The electrum lightsaber is simply a lightsaber with a hilt forged from electrum. Mace Windu's lightsaber in Episode II and III is an example; Sidious's lightsaber is also similar.
linksaber
Linksabers apparently have a bond between them, which allows for use similar to nunchaku.
Lightwhip
A lightwhip was previously invented by the New Sith Githany and later used by Lumiya. It was a lightsaber crafted out of Kaiburr crystal and Mandalorian iron but with the ability to flex and move like a leather whip. Unlike a regular lightsaber that creates a 'blade' from a highly focused arc of energy, the lightwhip works by sending a highly focused electrical current through metallic strands.
Y-saber
It looks like a normal light saber with an added 4-inch blade. The smaller blade comes off the side of the top of the hilt, creating a shape which suggests the letter Y. It kinda looks like a big tuning fork
