Umo did not know what to think. The words and actions that he and Tope exchanged, rang in his head like a thunder strike. His crimson eyes were watery and his left cheek, slashed and bleeding down his face, was sore and tender. THis was not how he wanted his son to leave the family... and he felt as though it was entirely his fault.
When Tope got into his face, he let out a roar. This was total uncalled for. He glared deep into Tope's face and shook his head. Do you know nothing. I stayed by your mothers side-because I am her mate. You would understand Tope, if you had been in my paws.
I would not have let them kill anyone. I would have fought until my last breath left me.
You will stop raising your voice too me Tope. He demanded
Tope lost it. He felt anger fill his entire body until is rage exploded from his chest like a missle. He roared, throwing himself at his father in his rage. How dare he call him Dissrespectful (it was true), How dare he tell him he didn't understand (he didn't), how dare he say something that he would not do, he was a chicken and would have run, leaving them to die (not true), and HOW DARE HE DEMAND HIM. He swung his gloved paw at his father, catching him sharp across the face. He felt the flesh drag, blood streaming between his toes. He had caught Umo across the forehead, just above his gnarled tree mark, and tore deep. Blood began to stream down Umo's face as Tope turned away, hurrying away from his father. He didn't want to be dealt a blow.
He got far enough from his father that if he did try to attack, he'd be able to run. He sat there, glaring at his bleeding father. Don't tell me what to do Umo.
Tope had run from his father, expecting him to chase him down... but... DId his own son not know how is father would react? Umo would have never hurt his child, no matter the anger or the pain he felt. Umo walked, not sure how he would tell Kika the news. His darling his swamp jewel that had been scorned, how she would react to the truth. Tope hated his father.

Kikawaida lay quietly in the long grasses near the wtering hole. She found it so unnatural to be any where else except some sort of boggy water. She lay quite happily in the muck which the warthogs, elephants and hippos had churned up, belly deep in the thick muddy bank, her soft, blush pink eyes closed and a gentle smile on ehr face.
She heard her mate coming before she opened her eyes to him though and a soft, airy laugh echoed through the ar, her voice, even out here, beyond her native grounds was like the tinkle of a small bell, a gentle song in the air. "Hello dearest Umo." Even as she said it her nose wrinkled, there was blood upon the air and it stung her nose. That scent was not of prey but of lion.
Soft pink eyes opened to fall upon her large cuddly mate and in an instant she was out of the mud, trailing her soggy tail behind her to look anxiously at her mate. "Umo, Oh umo what has happened?" Without waiting for him to answer she groomed the cut upon his forehead her brow furrowed, her tail lashing angrily. She had never seen her mate hurt before and it worried her to death. her Umo, her strong beautiful Umo, her protector, whom could do such a thing to him?

The sight of his mate, so delicatly covered in muck-made the gentle giant smile. There was always this simplicity about his mate.. he loved the simple things she enjoyed-and her oddities... her mud fetish. Her soft pink eyes made Umo's pain sease for a moment... he could get lost in her eyes.
But for now-he knew that the only thing that was right to do-was to tell her. Tell her what had happened... how the blood ran down his face and how Tope had called him-screamed at him... He lifted his head, looking too his mate with a smile-that was diffrent from the others he usually wore... this one was pained.
He did not awnser Kika when she began to clean his wound. He just sat there for a moment, lingering in his thoughts-of what he should say. Finally-he opened his mouth and spoke to her-words that he found distasteful and sour... Tope and I... We got into a fight He said simply, his crimson eyes blinking tiredly... for some reason the whole event made his head heavy. He cleared his throat.

Kikawaida looked abashed by this peice of information and her tail lashed in a frightened manner her brow creasing in a frown. "Against whom? Is tope hurt? Where is he?" She had clearly missunderstood what Umo told her, for why would her mate and son fight one another? It was just a rediculous concept! "Umo where is he? He hasn't been killed has he? Oh my poor baby!" For once kikawaidas voice was full of anxiety and stress, usually so laid back and calm her sing song voice was almost high pitched.
Soft pink eyes rested upon her mate, his wound was still bleeding and she woried over him greatly, but Tope was not there which to her could only mean one thing, he was out there bleeding some where, she just couldn't cope thinking about what might have happened to her poor baby boy!

Umo felt his mates worry burn into his chest-towards his heart. He shook his head, his mate misunderstood his words and he was slightly nervous about her reaction. If she was upset about how their son had possibly gotten into a fight-but how would she react to the fact that-father and son had fought. He blinked his red eyes, watching Kika's tail lash. She was so loyal too her children, and he sometimes wished they had not been banished. Something about watching his mate happy and comfortable-all the time-in her home lands-rather than this place, made him sad a bit.
"No-no. Tope is fine. He received no wounds..." He said, looking down at his paws. He didn't want to say it... he didn't want to admit that-he-umo had been a bit of a bad father-some how... some way. He bit his lip, looking up at Kika. "I was the other opponent Kika...
"Tope is-was upset with me.... He has apparently blamed me for everything.. the exilment-Ardhi's condition... everything... and he has been like that for a while... We got into a fight... he-" He paused, looking into his mates eyes. Her kind pink eyes, the same eyes that his son bore... He could almost see topes face, yelling his anger and pain at his father... but the image of his mate returned and he sighed. "He has run away... I think he may be gone for a while." He said solemnly,, looking down.

The feeling of releif that her son was not hurt didn't last very long for the soft hearted Kika as Umo continued his tale of woe. Her brow furrowed deeply and her ears flattened tightly against her head. "He's run away? We have to go and find him! He's not safe on his own." Kikawaida constantly worried out here and although she knew they were on the borders of the pridelands she still felt unsure of herself, this place was not her swamp.
"He cannot blame you, he cannot possibly blame you..." Her voice trailed off, she felt lost, what if she never saw Tope again? It was like Kinamasi all over again, she would never see either of them ever again. She thought whistfully of her eldest daughter for a moment, wondered if she was alive. How baddly she wished to keep her family together where she could watch over them and mother them. That was not always possible though,s he knew that, but Tope was far too young to be out in the world, he could get himself killed....

Umo knew how his mate felt about their children and he knew how she felt when Kinamasi left... and his pain was great. He also, wished to not lose his children... just as much as she did. His pained crimson eyes looked too her, and he stepped against her, his head resting against her back. He nuzzled her, sighing as he breathed in her scent. " I know-I am so afraid... but he is so mad Kika... he is so mad at me-" He said softly, the pain traveling into his chest... he felt her pain.
He shook his head slowly, pulling back to look at her. He lowered his head onto his chest, blinking his eyes shut... He then shook his head furiously, his eyes squeezed shut tightly-as his voice left his throat-
and had emotion. He broke down, his heavy sobs leaving his gaping jaws. His son, just like his father... Tope had the very thing that Umo feared for Kina... his grandfathers anger. "No-it is true... If it was not for me... We would be at home..." He said, his tone rising and falling, something that rarely every happened. He was so upset... his voice was normal. He left because of me

Kikawaida listened to her mates words and her concern for her son faded at least slightly. Tope was angry at Umo? Sighing gently the dusty eyed femme lowered her head and nudged her large hairy mates head upwards. "Umo, Umo my dear sweet furball." She smiled lovingly. "You have ben nothing but a father to your children, a mate to me, you have done everything in your power to keep us safe and well despite our tribulations, but it is most certainly not your fault. The fates decidewheer to guide us my darling Umo and it has braught us to this point in our lives." She took a deep breath and looked over Umo's shoulder whistfully, she remembered the day that her daughter had abandoned the swamps on her journey, her beautiful daughter whos birth had been a great blessing for her and her big hairy mate. "It is time..It is time to let them go, if they wish.." It took alot of strength to say that, kikawaidas heart leapt in to her throat as she said it and she swallowed it back down silently. She knew, no matter how protective she was, that her cubs could not possibly stay with her forever, they needed to live their own lives, they needed to see the woprld through their own eyes, they needed to find their own mates and create families of their own and her protectiveness would only hold them back.
The khaki femme finally lifted her head once again a tear rolling down through her dark mask as she groomed at the mark on her mates forehead. "You cannot blame yourself Umo, he is young and wrestless, do you remember..do you remember how desperate Kinamasi was to leave on her nameing quest, how anxious she was to see the world?" She paused and looked out on to the lands beyond her mates back, the khaki lioness always expected ehr oldest daughters siollouette on the horizon for some reason, as if someone was telling her she would return one day. Shaking her head she nudged Umo's chin upwards and gazed in to his eyes. "Do not let your sons anger cloud your judgement my darling. He will return to us one day and you know he loves you, anger clouds the mind and makes us lash out at those we love." Kika smiles softly unable to stop the tears which rolled down her cheeks. She knew she had to let them go sometime, but this soon? It seemed like only yeasturday to her that they were tiny balls of blind fluff, dependant upon her, and now, they wished to flee the nest and find their own places in the world.
She could not blame them, the fates played with her children as they played with her, if it was Topes time to leave, she could not interfere, she just hoped, preyed, that he would be okay.

Umo felt his own tears fall down his cheek, his mates words burning his heart. He loved his mate and everything she said and this was something he found that.. made his pain recede slightly. He blinked his crimson eyes, looking too his mate with a kind smile, a smile that he thought would never return to his muzzle. He nuzzled her, his fluffy chest against hers. Kika... Have I ever told you-that you make everything about my life-better. I would never-ever h-have been happy had I never found you. He said, looking her in the eye. He reached down and pulled his mates paw too his chest. He looked down to her paw and kissed it with his pink tongue.
I have never felt so happy. I have children-which I thought would never happen. I did not have hope. I didn't have happiness-until I found you Kikawaida.. my swamp jewel." He said, looking up too her. Everything about his life now-his family-his love... he wished his old family could see them. He recalled how upset Kika was when Kina began to talk about leaving and seeing the world. It had hurt to hear her say those things but it also made him happy. It meant his child would grow and perhaps see the world and find a mate... find her own family.
I believe you are right Kika... Tope is just like I was when I was young.... he will be alright

To hear her words repeated by her mate was strange to say the least, she wanted whole heartedly to beleive what she herself had said but to hear the words said by her mate hurt her ears. Her eyes burned with tears and she sobbed in to his dark mane. "He will be okay won't he? He'll come back to me one day..He will..won't he?" She whispers her voice cracked and broken, very unlike her usual tone of voice. Sjhe desperately wished to run out after her beautiful son, to tell him that it was okay, to beg him to return, but she knew she mustn't doing so would only push him away.
Shaking her head the khaki lioness of the swamps looked up at her handsome dark fluffy mate and started once more to groom his forehead cleaning the wound which lay there meticulously."He certainly has a good pair of claws." She tried to laugh but it only came out as a sob. "He knows how to look after himself, though the spirits alone know what I will tell Ardhi, he will be heart broken that his brother has left without him."

Umo's years alone told him that he would never find the one meant for him. He had always hoped and dreamed of a mate-but found none. Then-he met her. Nothing gave him more joy than to think of the magic and love he felt from her. To see her sad, and crying-hurt him and he wanted to make it all better-make everything okay. He shook his head, trying to comfort her by snuggling into her tighter. Yes, Yes... he will be alright. I trust that Tope will be fine. He is a big boy... he learned well from what we have taught him He said, bringing his head down onto her soft body. Of course. He just may surpise us and return with something great... maybe-he will be like you and find his one true love.
Just like Kikawaida... Tope left what he called home ((sort of)) to journey and-what he had not told his parents... was that he had met someone that he found amazing. A girl lioness, his age... She was a scorned female-a mother taken from her-and Tope was smitten. As his parents comforted him-he was with her... being comforted as well. Tope was like both his mother and father-more than he thought. Her name was Jini.... Jini-pomoka
I know... Ardhi will be very upset... but... Tope is strong... He will do fine... especially with those claws. He said, laughing. He nuzzled under Kika's chin. He wished her pain would stop.

Kikawaida sniffled quietly as she cuddled close to her big hairy mate, he was so handsome with his ruby eyes and dark mane, he was warm and cuddly and she knew that she would always belong to him, her heart was his forever. Knowing that her son was angry at him hurt her and her heart wrentched in her chest. He should not beangry with his father, it wasn't right. Her deep love for her mate and her natural love for her children split kikawaidas heart and she felt dizzy and sick as she pulled away from her dark maned mate.
"I know you are right." She whispers blinking away the last of the tears in her eyes. Resolutely she knew she must find the path which Tope had taken just to wish him farewell. She had been forbidden to say goodbye to her first born and now she did not know where her beautiful daughter was, she would not let tope leave without her saying good bye to him.
The question which tore at her though was should she tell Umo? She knew she must follow her son and say good bye,s he knew she must make sure that he was away on his journey knowing that home was always behind him waiting int he paws of is parents. No, she mustn't tell Umo. She would sleep and follow Tope when Umo was fast asleep.
"Poor Ardhi.." She trailed off looking off in to the distance. "He will miss his brother more than I will miss my son." She whispers turning her gaze finally back upon her ruby eyed mate.
"Umo, where do you think Kinamasi is?" It was as if the question had rolled off her tongue before she could stop it. She longed to know where her oldest daughter was, if she was alive which she feared that she may not be. "I never get to say good bye it seems." She sighs blinking back more tears and curling up close to Umo burying her nose in his mane.

Umo knew this was going to be tough for his mate. Her love for both him and their children and a mothers love for her cubs.... that was so strong. He was so happy that Tope was not mad at his mother... cause Umo would not stand for that. He felt his heart skip a beat when she pulled away from him. He nodded when she spoke-he hoped her fear for Tope and her love for him-would heal her pain.
Umo nodded, thinking of his poor old son-now alone... well.... he had his sisters Chepechepe and Giza, Even though the boys and the girls were-not usually together... THey tended to stay away from each-other... He sort of looked foreword to spending some time with Ardhi. <3
Umo smiled... Kinamasi-his first child... He sighed, looking too his mate. He had a million idea's of where Kina was... and he did not know. I do not know... I hope she is happy... and perhaps she has found herself a mate. He said, his heart growing warm. He felt a sadness draw from his chest... when she mentioned good byes. I know dear... I know He nuzzled himself into her...

Kikawaida had little thought about the possibilities that Kinamasi may have found herself a mate, perhaps she even had cubs? Would she ever even know? The hole in he heart seemed to grow larger as she thought of her beautiful daughter. She supposed at least if she had found a mate that she would be happy and safer than if she was alone. Shaking her head the khaki lioness lay down and looked up at her large hairy mate. Her Umo, they had produced so many beautiful cubs now, and she had lost two of them to the world.
"Umo, I do hope my babies will be alright in the world." She knew full well that her children were no longer thelittle babies she still wished they could be, they were older now, they needed to be free bt it was hard to let go.
Feining a yawn the pink eyed femme laid her head upon ehr paws with a sigh. "I miss them so much Umo." She coos her eyes drooping saddly, sahe knew she would sneak off once Umo was sleeping to follow Tope, to be sure that he was safe, just to say good bye and to hold him for one last time. She could not let another of her children leave without saying good bye.

Umo was glad that the thought of Kina having babies when she returned to them-brought some happiness out of the sadness they felt. He watched her lay, and walked so he could lay beside her too. He placed a big black paw over her back, heaving a sigh into her fur. He smiled and groomed her before saying Do not worry my dear. They are our children... they are strong He nuzzled the back of her head and cleaned behind her ears for a moment.
Umo could not help but yawn too-it was contagious. He chuckled, after his yawn seased. He blinked, looking too her. He felt bad that she was so sad about Tope'e leaving-but now that they were away from the swamplands, they would not have to see all their children leave without goodbyes. This made his heart happy and he smiled. He nuzzled her again.
I know dear... I do too He said, closing his eyes.
