The sky was grey and turning darker with each passing minute. Gerda should be alarmed as it had been a sunny and bright day earlier in the morning, only she really wasn't. Nothing surprised her anymore. She had become bitter and angry and with that little things, like being shocked over the weather, were non existant. She was merely an empty shell. So what if the weather changed? Who cared really?

She didn't.

And so what if the rain came down hard, too hard for any of them all to bear. If it washed her whole so be it. She felt so alone in this godforsaken pack. And by know she knew that it WAS her pack. Not her true pack, but the one she existed in now. By Lilith's law, which was the only one that mattered here, she did belong here. This was supposed to be her home and the others even considered Tabansi her mate. She supposed there was no folly of theirs for believing it was true in the first place.

After all, how could she tell her tale of woe if she could not even speak the words.

She stared at the darkened clouded sky and then let out a soft sigh before looking back down into the horizon. The area she'd hoped her pack was. She wanted to go out and search now that she was older. And now that Tabansi was loosing interest in her because of this feat of age. She didn't care, let him go stick it in something else for a change.

It's too bad there wasn't anyone younger then she around here otherwise she'd be rid of him completely. No, the thing that made her reluctant was the fact that something else was bogging her down. Some unknown sickness that caused her to shake and whimper and get sick from time to time.

Had she good sense about her, or was still under her own mother's care she would have known of the new life within her.

Far from home, happy memories lost along the way. Many many moons had passed since the then-teen had set out in search of his sister. His family had tried, but in the end it had all fallen to the shoulders of her brother--Laos. The one wolf that had a bond strong enough to find his sister without a sense of smell. He'd trekked over an impossible amount of miles, or so it felt like. Like his father, he had pushed himself to live without hardly any sleep or food. He had been a beautiful, healthy pup. He was glad his mother couldn't see him now.

His fur was caked with mud from the rivers and riverbeds and puddles he'd crossed. He knew he was going to find her, but he knew he had to move quickly. He could sense that she was in danger. Without his sense of hearing, he had narrowly escaped a run in with a buck, leaving him bewildered and slightly bloodied along one cheek. His fur was matted into stringy clumps, his ribs were visible through his skin. To spite that he looked a mere shadow of his youth, he was still strong. He could still be vicious if he needed to. He had been without his ears for too long, and he wanted them back.

Finally, he set foot in a desolate landscape. The trees seemed to dance with the minimal light to create sinewy shadows. They curled their dark tentacles around his body and climbed up his legs with each passing pawfall. He new she was here, somewhere. His ears, completely useless to him, continued to mock-swivel as if he could hear his surroundings. His eyes were keen though his ears were dead, and soon he caught a white glimmer in the corner of his eye. Turning his head, she came into view, the light reflecting off her pure coat. Gerda.

Instantly, life was restored to him. His legs felt as though they had wings. He practically flew to his sister, giving out a low, raspy whine as he came. He didn't want the noise to get too loud, for fear of attracting other pack members. He didn't know anything about this pack, but he had a feeling it was dangerous. Once he was beside her, he halted, his nose about a tail's length from her own. His chest heaved with excitement, his limp and stringy tail beating back and forth behind him. "Gerda!" He gave a little yelp, then tried to quiet his muzzle, his body shivering with excitement at the sight of his favorite sister.

But, sense or no sense did not prevent the change of tide that had overtaken Gerda. She felt bloated, moreso then any variation of 'fat' could attest to. But, that was no matter. Ziva had taught her ways to train her body so for the most part she kept in shape...of course minus her bulging belly. But she attributed the feeling and shape of it to something she'd eaten that didn't agree with her. It'd happened before when Gerda had eaten a squirrel that upset her stomach. So she assumed that it was merely a case of rotted meat and that was the end of it.

Of course this didn't account for the mood swings, but she ignored those entirely. Passing it off on the change in the weather.

Yes, Gerda could blame all of these intrusions on this or that and sleep soundly, ignoring what her subsconscious already knew. Instead she continued to stare at the precursor to the storm in the sky. There was a sense of beauty in it, and Gerda found that the more things she fond to be beautiful, no matter how simple, took the sting of homesickness away. Even if it was fleetingly.

But, it did not take it away entirely.

She thought often of her brother. What wolf had he become? Did he ever find anyone to replace her? They were almost inseperatable. But now? Now time was the only vicious mongrel that had managed to completely break them from each other. Not Tabansi...Not Ziva...and not even Gerda herself, but time. It stopped for no one and the mute femme was learning that the hard way. But then.... then as she heard something behind her, something familiar and oh so wanted...it seemed...

that time DID stop.
