My thoery is that ssj4 is not really a ss stage. super saiyin's have golden hair, but ssj4 does not. Could it be possible that this stage is just called super? (e.g. super goku 4). what are your thoughts?

SSJ 4 is actually the compact Oozaru (or however that's spelt). So really, It's not a form of SSJ.
But then again, you can't really count it as a form, because Toriyama didn't create GT.
I personally don't think it matters about the hair color. If Toriyama had created GT and made SSJ 4 with black hair, it would have been fine because it's his story and he can actually do anything he wants to with it.
But that's what I think.
