 {{ post 5 }} .The Discovery.Quote: .{Aug. 01}. T h e . D i s c o v e r y . . .
It was the evening, and the whole sky was beginning to fill with an orange tint; a sign that the dark night was coming soon. The cheers from the celebration could still be heard not too far off. With her hands in her pockets and her bare feet digging into the sand with each step she strolled down the beach with the breeze flying against her face.
Piper decided to take some solitary time from the luau. There were great festivities and tons of food but after all the excitement it would be nice for some quiet time. Her stomach was stuffed with poi and coconut juice and around her neck were several garlands of lei. She could still hear the cheers and laughter from not-so-far away. It was a celebration of her aunt's 40th birthday. Piper flew all the way here from California to Lana'i, Hawaii to celebrate with her and stay a while to visit.
They had a close relationship. Her aunt had taken care of her for a long period of time when she was a child and had not yet moved to Lana'i. Meleana, her aunt's Hawaiian name, was a stout, short woman with bits of graying hair which gave her a wise appearance. She had a kindly face with great cheeks that would wrinkle slightly when she smiled.
After wandering on for about 10 minutes, admiring the picturesque scenery, her eye caught an odd twinkle in the distance. She thought her eyes were decieving her, so she ignored it and shrugged it off. But undoubtly a few moments later she saw it again. Perhaps someone had forgotten something behind... or maybe someone had thrown litter to the ground and it had gotten caught in the wind? But Piper knew the people who inhabited the land loved it too much to do that.
As she drew closer she realized it was sort of blobby looking. It was a greenish-blue with orange surrounding it, the latter most likely coming from the setting sky. The breeze carried it, and it was floating on rather quickly. It was getting closer and closer until it was nearly right in front of her face. A momentary glimpse of it was taken then, enough to show her what it was. It was some sort of bead inside a drop of water, almost like a seed! She was about to it catch in her hands when suddenly a gust of wind came up and blew it right up and out the grasp of her hands. The seed flew over her head and Piper turned around and watch it be whisked away by the breeze.
Piper muttered grumpily to herself, scolding herself in her mind that she let something as cool and strange as that escape from her hands. She looked gloomily on as the seed continued on. She started back to the luau when fortune struck her! The breeze had carried it too close to the palm trees and a nearby bush had caught it between its leaves. She hurried over and cautiously clasped it in her hands. It still glimmered in what sunlight was left. What a strange thing it was... strange...
