People's posts got be thinking.
Is it possible to like every single type of game/gameplay style? I see a lot of posts like "LAWL, PARY GAMS SUX" or "IF IT TURN-BASED, IT NEEDA TA BE CUMBSTOMPEDA111"
But when I looked at my shelf... I see platformers, shooters, first person shooters, party games, RPGs, Sandbox games, hack-and-slash, etc.
After that, it seems kinda silly to only play one type of game over and over...
Discuss:
One-type-of-genre gamers. Multi-genre gamers. Multi-platform gamers. etc.

Personally, I like all video game genres. There's at least one example in every genre that I purely enjoy. Of course I like some better than others (I'm not too much of a fan of RTS games, but I love platforming games), but that doesn't mean I have to hate the others. Seriously, if you refuse to play a certain genre, you miss out on a bunch of great experiences.

I mean, when it comes to RPGs, I don't like Final Fantasy, but I do like Jade Empire and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. When it comes to racing games, I loathe Gran Turismo, but I love Burnout and Mario Kart. If you're willing to percevire, eventually anyone can find at least one game they like in any genre.

I also like to add that I think a lot of gamers only play one type of genre because they sampled it, liked it, and decided to stay within their comfort zone.
For a while (mid-late 90's) I'd play mostly platformers and RPG's. About 8 or 9 years ago, I started playing everything... shooters, sandbox, party, etc.And now I play everything.

And, to add to shiek's/your past comments, not all RPG's are random battles/"press a button to select a option". Only certain games are. There's pressing-to-attack (i.e. Zelda) RPG's... like Oblivion, which is one of my favorites.

Oblivion was a let down for me, B had me thinking that it would be more in depth than Morrowind, i couldn't even sit threw 20 mins of the thing.....

I love how you can go out and do whatever you want. I'm like... 20+ hours into the game and didn't even start the main quest/story yet.
It's the perfect game for adventure fans.

There are a LOT of genres, Since developers are sometimes exclusive you'd basically have to be multi-platform gamer to get the best out of all the genres.

I personally do not have the patience for a typical turn-based RPG anymore. I like Advance Wars, and I might be able to play a Mario RPG, but I tried Final Fantasy X, and the fact that it was turn-based killed it for me. It really is a genre that has kind of died since about SNES. Things got prettier and faster, then there just kinda dropped a need to have them...
Anyways, as for other genres, I'm not a fan of pure hack-n-slash like Devil May Cry. That's because I'm a Zelda junkie, and there's no way to get around it. It may be a great game, but I like looking for stuff and solving puzzles so much. Kingdom Hearts 2 had a great story and improved battle system, but I really missed the abilities earned to explore new/higher areas. It added more depth to it, and made it a better RPG I think.
Sports games aren't fun for me, either, simply because they try to be too realistic, and it's healthier to go outside for that. I prefer Mario sports just because it's something I can do to escape reality.
Outside of those, there aren't a lot of games I don't like. I can get into puzzles pretty easily, action-RPGs like Fable, and now I have even gotten into Starcraft, making my first RTS.
