Journey flicked her tail impatiently, her brow furrowed in concentration and her tongue sticking out slightly without her knowledge. She was staring intently at the trunk of a tree, her eyes screwed up a bit because it was so close. Someone, she didn't remember who, had told her that if you stared long enough at a tree on a sunny day, the bark would start on fire... or something to that effect. She didn't remember correctly.
Sighing, she gave up. Maybe it wasn't sunny enough? Thick black clouds rolled in the sky, warning those on the ground of the approaching storm. It seemed sunnier than it actually was.
Journey trotted over to stand under the protection of the branches of the tree, closing her eyes and ruffling her wings a bit to get comfortable. The air was thick and humid with the oncoming storm, and she felt a bit hot. Groaning, she spread her wings out around her, flapping slowly, to try to cool herself off, to no avail. She'd probably have to leave to find the ocean soon... but she felt safer under this tree, her volunteer protector, and she'd rather not move from the protection; she was dry, but that wouldn't be so true if she left her post in a few minutes.
The sky shot a lightning bolt down onto the earth, where it hit somewhere far off in the distance, and a few seconds later, thunder seemed to shake the ground where she stood. The thick black clouds took over now, relentless in shielding the ground-dwellers from the sun that made Journey oh-so-happy all the time.

Journey watched the sky as it opened up, releasing the tensions in the Heavens and allowing the precipitation build-up to be released. It was relaxing, the dull sound of the rain hitting the treetops, bouncing off the leaves with acrobatic grace that would rival even the most talented performer...
She shook herself out of her thoughts as another approached. She had wings as well, and she looked rather soaked. Journey moved over under the limited shelter of the tree, smiling warmly.
"It's not all too bad," she said in her dreamy, floating voice. "At least there aren't any wind whippers." She inclined her head slightly and closed her eyes in greeting. "I'm Journey."
She glanced out at the meadow in front of her, a lurch of gratitude making her heart swell. She hadn't known that anyone would be out here, and there it was, a winged female such as herself. Fate? Probably not. But hey, who could argue with some interaction on a day like this?
Journey returned her full attention back to the other mare, intent on making a good first impression.

"It is truly a pleasure to make your aquaintance, Osi," Journey said politely, a warm smile spreading across her face.
"The rain is not all bad," she continued in her dreamy voice, swaying slightly with the effort of keeping her thoughts on the present. "I believe I am not the only one that has noticed how wonderful the grass tastes after a lovely summer storm." Another rumble of thunder shook the earth, but Journey ignored it.
"Feathers and wings separate us from the others," she said seriously now. "If it were not for them, we'd be just like nearly everyone I've met in the past. Wings are something to be proud of, something to hold dear. If they get wet, well, then let's just dry them off, shall we?" She ruffled her own wings, shaking loose bits of precipitation she did not know was there off. She didn't really mind them getting wet; it's not like she wanted to fly anywhere in a rainstorm. But she had to admit, they did get kind of itchy when they were wet...

Journey tilted her head to the side and quirked her eyebrow a bit, confused by the sudden lack of conversation between herself and the other mare. She knew something like this was going to happen; she was a good-natured, gentle, quiet mare, and when she let her jaw flap uncontrollably, others refused to let her live it down.
"What's wrong?" she asked dreamily, looking out into the meadow. The rain was coming down in a sheer drizzle now, barely enough to be called something as powerful as 'rain.' Maybe 'thick fog' would be a better explanation...
Journey snorted a bit and wandered out into the fog, savoring the cool feel of the water on her face and neck. Sure, she'd be pretty damp soon, but she didn't mind. Her wings would dry, her coat would be cleaner than before, and she now had a plausible excuse for scratching her wings against a tree. Life was good.
"Come out here!" she called, giggling slightly as she splashed in a shallow puddle in the grass.
