User ImageJourney flicked her tail impatiently, her brow furrowed in concentration and her tongue sticking out slightly without her knowledge. She was staring intently at the trunk of a tree, her eyes screwed up a bit because it was so close. Someone, she didn't remember who, had told her that if you stared long enough at a tree on a sunny day, the bark would start on fire... or something to that effect. She didn't remember correctly.

Sighing, she gave up. Maybe it wasn't sunny enough? Thick black clouds rolled in the sky, warning those on the ground of the approaching storm. It seemed sunnier than it actually was.

Journey trotted over to stand under the protection of the branches of the tree, closing her eyes and ruffling her wings a bit to get comfortable. The air was thick and humid with the oncoming storm, and she felt a bit hot. Groaning, she spread her wings out around her, flapping slowly, to try to cool herself off, to no avail. She'd probably have to leave to find the ocean soon... but she felt safer under this tree, her volunteer protector, and she'd rather not move from the protection; she was dry, but that wouldn't be so true if she left her post in a few minutes.

The sky shot a lightning bolt down onto the earth, where it hit somewhere far off in the distance, and a few seconds later, thunder seemed to shake the ground where she stood. The thick black clouds took over now, relentless in shielding the ground-dwellers from the sun that made Journey oh-so-happy all the time.

User Image Osi had been perfectly happy just trotting about not doing much but when the dark clouds rolled in and the thunder was heard in the distant she couldn't help but give out a small sigh, this was the last thing she wanted. She loved the rain and storms they were amazing things to watch but when her wings got wet they were such a pain. She stretched her wings a little before folding them back up, thats when she felt the first spot of rain land on her. Stupid weather.

She turned around to look for some sort of shelter and spotted a bunch of trees it could have been the forest for all she knew but she didn't care. It was trees and that meant some sort of shelter, it was quite a way but if she ran she wouldn't get too wet surely? Unfortunately the storm was worse then she predicted. Oh how the rain was annoying sometimes!

She ran and it poured. She could feel her wings feeling heavier as the water soaked them but she pushed on running until she made it under the tree's where she opened her wings up and sighed. It took her a while to notice the other female mainly because wet feathers never felt good.

"Oh hi, sorry, I didn't notice you. Horrid weather isn't it." She smiled and folded her wet wings back up. Hopefully the storm wouldn't last too long.

Journey watched the sky as it opened up, releasing the tensions in the Heavens and allowing the precipitation build-up to be released. It was relaxing, the dull sound of the rain hitting the treetops, bouncing off the leaves with acrobatic grace that would rival even the most talented performer...

She shook herself out of her thoughts as another approached. She had wings as well, and she looked rather soaked. Journey moved over under the limited shelter of the tree, smiling warmly.

"It's not all too bad," she said in her dreamy, floating voice. "At least there aren't any wind whippers." She inclined her head slightly and closed her eyes in greeting. "I'm Journey."

She glanced out at the meadow in front of her, a lurch of gratitude making her heart swell. She hadn't known that anyone would be out here, and there it was, a winged female such as herself. Fate? Probably not. But hey, who could argue with some interaction on a day like this?

Journey returned her full attention back to the other mare, intent on making a good first impression.

She wasn't quite sure what wind whippers were but nodded anyway pretending that she knew what the other female was talking about. She was dripping and it was terrible. All she could think about was how awkward her feathers were going to be once they dried. Why did it have to rain?

"I am Osi, it's nice to meet you." It was a shame they had to meet on such a day, normally Osi would love to just walk with others and chat to them but her wings were wet enough and she was far from in the mood for going out and bracing the weather again.

"I do hope this storm doesn't last." She wanted the sun to come and dry her off!

"It is a pain having wings, don't you find? They get wet and that's it, one huge pain right there. The water makes them so heavy!" She was quite talkative when she wanted to be and as there was little else to do now it seemed talking was the only option!

"It is truly a pleasure to make your aquaintance, Osi," Journey said politely, a warm smile spreading across her face.

"The rain is not all bad," she continued in her dreamy voice, swaying slightly with the effort of keeping her thoughts on the present. "I believe I am not the only one that has noticed how wonderful the grass tastes after a lovely summer storm." Another rumble of thunder shook the earth, but Journey ignored it.

"Feathers and wings separate us from the others," she said seriously now. "If it were not for them, we'd be just like nearly everyone I've met in the past. Wings are something to be proud of, something to hold dear. If they get wet, well, then let's just dry them off, shall we?" She ruffled her own wings, shaking loose bits of precipitation she did not know was there off. She didn't really mind them getting wet; it's not like she wanted to fly anywhere in a rainstorm. But she had to admit, they did get kind of itchy when they were wet...

Osi looked at the other female in a rather strange way. How could she like the rain? Who cared what the grass tasted like after a thunderstorm, her wings felt terrible! She looked at the other female curiously completely confused at what it was the female meant.

She wasn't proud of her wings, she had seen others with wings and had no reason in the world to think they were anything to make her special. She was however very happy that she did have some wings as she could fly and oh how she loved flying but there were days like today where the rain made her wish she didn't have them.

She didn't say anything in reply, she was speechless. She didn't understand anything that the other female said. It made no sense to Osi so the best way to deal with it was to just ignore it. So she did.

Journey tilted her head to the side and quirked her eyebrow a bit, confused by the sudden lack of conversation between herself and the other mare. She knew something like this was going to happen; she was a good-natured, gentle, quiet mare, and when she let her jaw flap uncontrollably, others refused to let her live it down.

"What's wrong?" she asked dreamily, looking out into the meadow. The rain was coming down in a sheer drizzle now, barely enough to be called something as powerful as 'rain.' Maybe 'thick fog' would be a better explanation...

Journey snorted a bit and wandered out into the fog, savoring the cool feel of the water on her face and neck. Sure, she'd be pretty damp soon, but she didn't mind. Her wings would dry, her coat would be cleaner than before, and she now had a plausible excuse for scratching her wings against a tree. Life was good.

"Come out here!" she called, giggling slightly as she splashed in a shallow puddle in the grass.

Osi watched her go out completely shocked by the mares actions. It was still raining!

"No thank you, I am wet enough as it is. I don't want to get much wetter." She wanted her wings to dry already! This mare seemed to be somewhat crazy. Osi was feeling a little uneasy but then again Osi's beliefs and thoughts were something she always stuck with. Osi's thoughts right now was that water was bad and this female went against it. Oh please let it stop raining and the sun come out!
