In this roleplay, the characters are the first people in the world to be able to use magic. Until the characters came on the scene, magic was exactly as it is in the "real world". Lots of rumors, people who claim they can do magic but not definite proof.
The powers of each individual magician must be linked with a very definite theme. For example, if you choose "Fire Magic" Then your character can of course create fire, put it out, and possibly be able to fly by rocketing into the air on a pillar of fire. But you couldn't teleport, or read minds, etc, because they don't directly relate to Fire. You don't have to list all of your powers, but you do have to pick a theme and stick with it.
I am asking that these magicians be in their late teens. They do not have to know each other to start off with, but we'll be starting in a fictional city called Amberton.
Edit! OOC: I'm bringing people in as quickly as I can while making the story flow. If you wish to jump in, pay close attention to the story and fit your character in as best you can and we'll integrate you ASAP. Also, we're still open. Now, I haven't asked before but if anyone wants to either join as one of the adversaries or double as one, send me a PM and we'll work something out.
As this is a more advanced Roleplay I am asking for full literacy as much as possible. Spell check your posts before they go up (There are lots of ways of accomplishing this, including using plug-ins for both the newest Firefox or Internet Explorer) and make sure that your replies are at least a paragraph long, unless you are involved in a conversation with another character.
I'm in several guilds but I do check my PMs nearly daily. I will pop in on this string to watch for takers. Once I have at least a total of four players we can start.

This RP looks like it has potential, would you like the profile stuff PM'd or posted here? Also, is there anything else we need to know? The description is kind of brief. I'll keep an eye out.

Was just testing the waters as it were.
Yes, please post a profile here. Include a character description (both physical and of your powers), state if you'd want to know any of the other characters or be "discovered" (my character's power is she can "feel" magic and can bring the "threads" of magic together, so she can go "find" any of you who want to build your character on your own before being thrust into a group.), and any other details you feel relevant.
I know I was brief, but I want to give some freedom to the players to come up with some details as we write.
Thanks for your interest!
PM me if you have any questions.

Character Profile Name: Erin Laena Kitrovitch Age: 19 Element: Weather (air-water) Description: Her russet hair lay over one shoulder, twisted into a quick, wet rope as water dripped to the floor. She wrapped herself tightly in a towel, clipping it so she could move about without worrying about flashing anyone. Her cynical gray green eyes trailed over the wet tiled floor and gave a graceful shrug of her pale and freckled shoulders. She gave the mirror a narrowed eyed glare before setting out into her room. She sauntered like some sort of feline, walking on the balls of her feet, her hips swaying back and forth. With a flop she began giving her skin a good rub down of lotion. Her limbs were long and lean but not without muscle. Her skin was pale with a hint of a summer's golden kiss, bronze freckles along her shoulders and cheekbones.
Personality: About as unpredicatble as the weather she can manipulate

I would like to thank everyone for their positive input! I think we're close enough to start soon. And, just for the record, I did leave it a bit ambiguous as this would be the first RP I was posting to Gaia (Though I've been RPing for over a decade).
I find that when I leave part of the world up to the players, instead of acting like a combination writer, director and lead actress, everyone feels more attached to the storyline instead of being along for the ride down the monorail.
I'm about to hit the bed right now, tomorrow I do an opening shift, so I will be back at around 7pm Pacific Time.
I'll start weaving your character submissions into a more cohesive whole, sort of like doing a Gaia Jigsaw!
Thanks again for your interest!

Oh, and it seems someone's sour grapes got all over this board... Does anyone know who I need to PM to get it cleaned up? I really don't think profanity is needed in this case...

OK OK, just oooone more little comment about my brevity. I came from a guild on another site where the roleplay guidelines were stretched out over like a dozen posts (often in odd fonts and colors you had to highlight to read right) and it became my pet peeve (or petpet peeve if you follow my meaning). I am perfectly capable with coming up with extensive backgrounds, and I don't know why the rude post got my fur so ruffled gonk but if you want you can look at a RP I ran online on my own for awhile Aeon Dawn

Apologies.. that link is one of the mirror sites, the original is gone, and after cruising part of the site myself I find it's not one hundred percent up, but it's not really relevant because that's not what we're playing sweatdrop
