I need detailed information on a handfasting ceremony, but it's not material easily come across, it seems. Does anyone know anything about the rituals, traditions, or symbolism? I also need to be able to tweak it for two girls if it emphasises the roles of the god and goddess... though I'm not sure how to do that. :s ~

I think there's a Handfasting ritual in one of my books by Buckland...Is that what you're wanting? A ritual? I think it's made for an entire coven to take part in, but I guess it could be adapted...If you would like for me to send you the ritual, let me know. Edit: This site has some pretty good information on handfastings: http://www.uuottawa.com/paganweddingsmain.htm

I have quite a bit of information on handfastings that is not available on the web. Incuding a handfasting that we did for a same sex couple. Contact me and I'll get it to you.

Rituals are greatly appreciated. I'd like to find something that's perfect, and that'll probably mean going through tons of texts. 3nodding

XxDarkforcesxX What's handfasting? when your hands don't eat? Oro? lol... Please tell me you're joking. It's like marriage. Instead of calling it a wedding, Wiccans (and probably other Pagan traditions) call it a handfasting.

Dureing the preparation for our handfasting, my husband and I were given a book on handfasting, with a number of customisable rituals, that included an explaination for the term.
Handfasting: A long, long time ago, the word 'Fast' meant, among other things, to affix, secure or bind. For instance, when closing a door securely, someone would 'make fast the door against the howling winds.' In this context then, "Handfasting" takes the meaning of "Binding together hands" or "Making fast together the hands of these two." You can see the symbolism of this in modern wedding ceremonies, where the couple holds hands as the officiator states that "We are gathered to join these two in marriage."
Given the confusion over the term, I thought I'd offer this explaination.
