Lately I have been shirking my work and makeing little doodles (David Tennant, Series called Durring the Adverts) and storys (Doctor Who) instead, so today I noticed my inbox was towering and I shoved it all in the drawer. My boss came over and congratulated me for being one of the only people to keep up with my work xp

Have you ever done something like that and got congratulated or do you just let it pile up and fall over?

When I have a job, I DO it, and do it to the best of my ability. I value my paycheck when I have one and wish it to continue. :X
Keep goofing around and it WILL catch up with you.

That doesn't make it OK to slack off when you get bored with what you're doing. Work usually ISN'T fun. Snap out of it and do your job right, and if you feel it's time for a change, start looking around for another before you ruin your work record at what you have now. That sure won't help get another job, will it?

Could be worse. You could work in an outgoing call centre as I did for 18 months. I would have rather done 18 months in prison. I hated it. I quit on medical grounds (3 bouts of laryngitis in 6 months...), but I've not been able to find another job since.

I couldn't really slack off because the computer dialled all the numbers, and if you were on Pause for too long, you lost shifts and I needed the money (although I'm getting more on Jobseekers Allowance than I did when I was working! How does that work out!?). I am looking for jobs though.

Hmm, well I don't really have time for a job, but as far as schoolwork goes (and I get a lot of that...) I seem to have a similar habit of just... well, concentrating for about 5-10 mins and then going into a daze, either staring out into space or doodling or something.... yays for short attention spans xd

Slacking of is ok, even necessary somtimes I think, just... so long as you don't do it too often!

Nobody can afford to be goofing off & letting their work pile up at a job any more. There's too much unemployment nowadays, & you can be booted out & replaced very easily...and then you have to try to get another job with that firing on your record. Do you think any company will be eager to hire someone they see as unreliable? And what if that next job is something you would love to do...but they see how you were performing at that last job....?
When I was in Career Transitions class, the instructors said the #1 thing employers are looking for is DEPENDABILITY. They want workers who will come in every day, on time, and do their job.

When I get paid for something Ill always do it, but when not (like school) I generally let stuff pile up

I do slack off from time to time because high school kids in America are frustrating to work with. Even though I may be intense in my teaching strategy sometimes I wish I had a sonic screw driver to make things right.

I wish I could pull a Tennant and really wow the class or pull a Eccelson and just cheer them up.

When I get frustrated I seriously want to pull my hair out or pretend I'm a Dalek in my mind.

Well, if you're going to pretend to be a Dalek, then you're obviously wanting to exterminate all work... EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!! DALEKS DO NOT WORK!!! INFERIOR BEINGS WORK!!! DALEKS GET INFERIOR BEINGS TO DO THE WORK FOR THEM OR THEY WILL BE EXTERMINATED!!!!!

*shakes head* Sorry about that!! biggrin
